yikes, bad on all fronts. a little about us...we live in the aksarben area and love to frequent restaurants around here. we are relatively easy to please and together we could not think of one entree we had ever sent back.
we visiteddudley'son a thursday evening around 6 and the weather was beautiful. the first thing we noticed as we walked in was the overwhelming smell of...for lack of a better descriptor...poop. thankfully the smell was only in the initial corridor. the restaurant had about 20 people dining, which surprised us for a nice thursday evening. our hostess sat us right away on the patio and we ordered a hard pear cider and some truffle fries. the pear cider was delicious and reasonably priced. the truffle fries were thick cut, which was a little different but were fried perfectly and nice and crispy. they had parmesan cheese sprinkled on them and some parsley. the fries alone had no traditional "truffle fry, garlicky taste." they were rather bland and in need of salt. the fries were served with some "creamy garlic sauce" which was more of a garlic gravy. my fiancé, who loves most condiments described the gravy as tasting like "my mouth after i throw up." i personally didn't think it was that bad. it got rather heavy and unappetizing after about 5 fries, though. we ended up asking for some ketchup to eat with the fries.
i have celiac disease so i am always looking for restaurants with gluten free options. we were happy to find out that they did not bread their wings, and they were gluten free. we ordered 5 garlic parmesan and 5 traditional buffalo. we also went outside the box and ordered some "italian chicken nachos." we both were expecting something close to the italian nachos at old chicago that i used to eat by the bucket load before being diagnosed with celiac. our food came out rather quickly. the first things we noticed were the number of wings...we received 9, not 10...we said nothing about this because we had plenty of food. the other thing we noticed was the scarcity of "nacho" toppings. we didn't get a picture but it looks like a plate of tostitos with a drizzle of sour cream, some green sauce (creamy pesto) about 3 ounces of mystery meat, and a side of marinara sauce.
we started with the wings...they were about room temperature, rather small, and definitely not "charred" as promised on the menu. the buffalo had a good salty, spicy, vinegary taste. if they would have been hot, i would have definitely recommended them. the garlic parm were not salty at all, the chicken was not seasoned at all, room temp, and no crispiness at all. we got both ranch and bleu cheese for dipping. the ranch literally tasted of nothing and the bleu cheese was most definitely kraft bleu cheese from the bottle.
then the fun really began...we each reluctantly went for the nachos...once again, room temperature with 2 creamy sauces which was not a pleasant mixture. the marina was probably the best part. it was hot, had good flavor and had nice chunks of tomatoes. the chicken had no form whatsoever. it looked like someone had taken a hand full of cooked chicken and squeezed it in their hand very tightly and then placed it on the nachos. all of the chicken was covering about 6 chips. after one chip, we both looked at each other with confusion as i said "is that fish?" my fiancé tasted the exact same thing. we smelled around and narrowed down the culprit...definitely the chicken. i braved the storm and went for one more. same exact taste only stronger. the taste was so off putting that we immediately stopped eating all together.
we debated whether we would say something, but knew it was our duty to do so. our waitress did not seem surprised at all...almost like she had dealt with this same complaint many times before. within minutes she came back to tell us they were making us a new order. we immediately declined the gesture and said we were through. she proceeded to bring our check and to our surprise the nachos were still on the tab. i politely brought this to her attention and she proceeded to tell us that she was reluctant about trying to get food items taken off of a ticket because the managers did not approve of this at all. she said depending on which manager was working, there was a chance it would be removed but she couldnt guarantee anything because the manager was not polite and already didn't like her.
just when we thought things couldn't get any worse, we both grew angry as there was a chance we would be expected to pay for the rancid nachos that we didn't eat. thankfully for the establishment and the managers reputation, the nachos were removed. only the nachos. the manager was no where to be seen and not one single person came over to apologize or check on us. this was the most appalling event of the night. as a business owner myself, i could never imagine not dealing with a dissatisfied customer face to face. this is the mark of a truly cowardly manager and a terribly managed/owned establishment.
needless to say, we will not be returning and we will do whatever we can to keep our friends and family away from this place. our main reasons having nothing to do with the food...bad food happens...but the managerial blunders are not excusable.
we have had some bad experiences in omaha before, but by far, this was the worst. i will also add, i have been living in omaha for 5 years, trying new restaurants frequently, using us all the meanwhile and have only written 1 other review...and it was for our absolute favorite restaurant...el basha. this is the only negative review i've ever written.
do what you may, but please if you are treated as we were, share your experience.
