docks seafood

i grew up in a fishing family in south portland, maine, my grandfather would filet haddock on his kitchen table, paper wrap it and then send me through the neighborhood to deliver. i worked for a seafood restaurant for many years where the seafood was incredibly fresh. i moved to limington and bay haven became our seafood restaurant. it's amazing and when we moved back to sopo it was surprising to find out there wasn't anything close to that. until docks! this summer we went there many times and the scallops never disappointed. they were big sea scallops and so sweet and tender! the portions are great and the food is so fresh and delicious. my husband always gets the fisherman's platter and there is always lots of leftovers. the staff is friendly and fun to chat with. support your local businessman and get a great meal at the same time.

ate here just last week. had lobster roll and a cup of fish chowder, full of fresh haddock. lobster cooked just right, roll (not hotdog roll) was filled to the top with lobster meat. friend had haddock nuggets and shrimp special. no complaints, will definitely be back. seafood done right.

now sit right back and i'll tell you a tale, a tale of a mighty ship.... you won't find gillian or the skipper here but you will find a haddock sandwich asking to be eaten. get it with a slice of cheese and dream of genie or ginger whichever you please.

the two customers below this must have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. docks seafood is the very best, and there are times i think he went out back and fished it himself. i have absolutely no complaints, the food is fresh and tasty. i have always found the service great and everybody there is always very pleasant. it's one of the better places to have seafood, i always recommend them to all my friends and not one of them have had any complaints. a big thumbs up!!!!!

soggy food and messed up orders. yuuuuuuck.. we ordered take out from there twice. the first time they gave my daughter calamari instead of chicken tenders. i had to tell her they were "crazy chicken" but she ate it. so no big deal.
when we ordered tonight, once again one meal was completely wrong.
not only that but everything we received (haddock, shrimp and fries) were really soggy and gross looking.
when we went back and complained, they gave us most of our money back but charged us $10.75 for my daughter's 2 chicken fingers and 2 rolls....
never going there again. ever.

poor quality, small quantity. no service. extra large shrimp lunch plate only a handful of shrimp. soggy and greasy, flimsy fries. several shells in crab salad roll so had to pick through to get them out before trying to eat. wet roll. ended up throwing most everything out. some things are fresh, some things frozen and thawed. they are overwhelmed and out of their league, seem to have high staff turnover. not as clean as most places. ken's place in scarborough on road heading out to pine point beach is much better food and service. don't waste your money at docks, you'll be disappointed.

good fresh seafood without all the tourists and traffic. ate here 3 times this week while on vacation.

yum! but.... very tasty and generous portions, at a fair price. and, we don't have to brave the old port's traffic and lack of parking. we're lucky to have a good seafood restaurant in south portland that offers take out. i called to order for pick up at 7:55, not aware that they close at 8. i was slightly put off by the person who answered the phone- she acted like i should have known they closed at 8. as i was hanging up, there was a voice in the background saying they would take my order. i don't think she was very happy and punished me by leaving out the tartar sauce. you really cannot have fried clams or fried haddock without tartar sauce, so i was pretty disappointed. if condiments are not automatically included, they should be offered. the surliness of the woman who answered the phone directly contrasted with the cheerful and appreciative demeanor of the gentleman who rang up the order when we got there, and was likely the voice saying he would take the order after she had reprimanded me. this mishap aside- i will go back and i'll request tartar sauce with my order and hopefully that unhappy employee will no longer be working at dock's!

great lobster!. hit this place 4 times during the week we were in town. did the fried stuff one night - good, but still fried. however, on two occasions we ordered the five lobsters ($25), which we had them cook ($1). so for $26, we had five perfectly cooked lobsters that were still too hot to pick up 20 minutes later at our cabin. can't beat that - and their pies and whoopie pies were very good as well.

cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. for anyone who is looking for casual seafood in maine, this is the place. docks offers all the standard fried offerings (clams, shrimp, scallops, fish filets, etc) as well as all the usual varieties of lobster. in addition, they offer delicious baked/broiled dishes, chowders & bisque, healthy sides like baked potatoes, gluten-free options and yummy homemade desserts. they even have a fresh fish market (if you feel like cooking at home). the food is extremely fresh and prepared with skill. on one recent visit, i went with a party of 15 - one hour before closing. they got us seated and accommodated every order/request perfectly.

all summer long doc's had a great special on lobsters-5 for $25 bucks and they would cook them for you!! it was a really easy way to get lobsters for all our out of town guests.

if you called ahead of time they didn't flinch at providing the complete lobster dinners, (lobsters, corn, rolls, melted butter) all cooked, for 14 people hot and ready for pick up at the time i specified! great service, very friendly help and their take home and cook yourself selection of seafood is wonderful.

great seafood!. my wife & i visited went skiing last month and stopped in for dinner. we went back before leaving town. the food was great both times. i highly recommend it.

fresh food in a pleasant atmosphere, great prices!

pretty poor product tonight. i have ordered fried clams from docks three times before tonight. all three times i have been satisfied.but tonight not so happy,the whole clams were greasy and tough.french fries were greasy and some were even uncooked.for your clams in crumbs, turn up the heat. 375 no lower, and take them out sooner.you will have a superior product, i promise.
