darby's public house

staff is mediocre and the food is terrible. i once ordered the delicious sounding duck poutine and the cook must have been mad at me for trying to chat up his gf at the bar because he tried to kill me with salt. the barman acknowledged it was disgusting but there was no real apology and i could tell they couldn't care less what kind of experience i had there.

i used to come for a drink after i finished with clients on this side of town but i will never be back. it's just one of those horribly mediocre uninspired places that only survives because it's located in a high traffic area. vancouver is full of nice places to eat and have a drink so why anyone would come here willingly is beyond me. unfortunately places likedarby'sseem to be beginning to outnumber the truly inspired establishments but alas, it's the way of the world these days.

my wife and have ordered take out fromdarby'sthrough the order it website on a regular basis for the past 18 months. it used to be well sized portions at a reasonable prize. however over the past 6 months the quality has gone down so much that i would rather go to mcdonalds. last week i ordered a pulled pork sandwich and it arrived without any pork at all, just covered in sauce . i don't know if management or the kitchen staff has changed but believe me you will get better value at burger king - too bad, it used to be good

every neighbourhood needs a pub where friends can gather to eat, drink and be merry.darby'sfills that need and more. our largish group was well accommodated on a friday night. they have a good selection of draught and bottled beers, and the menu looked very promising. we didn't order food this time, but others in our group enjoyed their meals. service was smooth, and even the band playing that night was good.

unique pub fare. not your average burger!darby'sdoes unique burgers on rectangular ciabatta buns, house-made patties (even the veggie patties are house-made, i think), and serves up deep fried house-made potato chips in lieu of fries. you gotta try their butternut squash fondue -- it's rich and delicious, and has a good balance of sweet and savory. i'm glad to have this pub in my neighbourhood. nom nom.
