dame's chicken & waffles

food was good, service wasn't. the main hostess was very rude and had such an attitude with everyone. this isn't the first time either. she made sure you knew that you were going to have a long wait if you didn't have reservations and don't even try asking her questions. if you don't mind the service, then go for it. the food is still delicious.

while the food is good there is certainly room for improvement when it comes to customer service.
if you ever visit the restaurant and don't have to wait an hour plus to be seated consider yourself lucky. if you can walk in and not be told they are fully book for the day you're lucky. of the numerous attempts made to try dames i have only been lucky enough to get seated once.
i have walked in 30 minutes before closed looked at multiple empty tables and was turned away told they have reservations for the day. yes reservations showing up 30 minutes or less before they close.
of the one chance i got seated:
the waffles and schmears are great. if i attempt another visit i would stick to just that. the chicken has great flavor but was over cooked an dry. while this may not always be the case it was for myself and those with me. it's hard to say i dislike any mac and cheese but dames certainly is as the bottom of my list. it has rosemary added to it for flavor which is ok, but rosemary can easily be over done and over power a dish. mac and cheese is great on its own, no need to ruin by trying to make it fancy.

bottom line go for the waffles an schmears only and good luck getting a table.

worth a try. dame's has zero parking and there isn't much street parking nearby.....it is super crowded on sundays....with no real waiting area. we waited about 35 minutes for our food once we ordered....but it was delicious. the waffles are fresh, the shear butters are tasty. and the chicken was to.die.for. give it a try.....we will be back.

good food, terrible service. i've been reading great reviews about this place, so when friends and i went the on sunday, we had a lot of expectations. unfortunately, we were left disappointed and we are almost certain we won't return. here's why:
1) we were told that they're full and that we would have to wait for an hour. ok. 1 1/2 hours later, we were still not seated. by them, it was already 2:30pm.

2) got seated, waited for 15-20mins to get our orders taken. waitress after waitress went past our table, we were ignored. two families who came after us were already served.

3) waited almost 1 hr for our food. then manager came to tell us that they're out of classic waffles. the two families were already beginning to leave. at that point we just wanted to eat (it was way past lunch time, already 3:45pm!!!!) so we went for what ever is left.

4) complained to the manager. he was diplomatic enough, but after all of the above i think we deserve more. waitress was happy to chat with her colleague while we should have gotten our drinks, refills etc. got a complimentary meal voucher for the next visit. don't know if we will ever utilize that though.

ps: if i may add, as we were eating, they were beginning to clear the restaurant. so chairs were put up on tables around us, as we were having our meal. i thought that was rather rude.

best. waffles. ever.. their waffles & "schmears" are seriously delicious. my chicken cutlet was really dry, however. stick with the drumsticks or (huge) wings. you won't be disappointed!

what a great place. my wife and i enjoyed it very much from the atmosphere to the service and of course the food. we can not wait to share this place with our friends. class without the attitude.

best chicken & waffles. when my husband and daughter suggested chicken and waffles for lunch i was hesitant. boy, was i was wrong! what an amazing experience and meal. the 3 of us each ordered a different waffle combination, and one each of the sides offered. the mac and cheese was to die for, the collards were on the spicy side, but a nice option with the sweetness of the smears that come with each waffle dish. the grits were also a tasty side dish.

the fried chicken was crispy, well-seasoned, and great portion size. the combination of fried chicken, waffle, smear was a match made in heaven. loved everything and have returned several more times. my daughter has returned often as well with friends from her office.

if you are in the mood for a unique eating experience, this is the place to eat. the service was attentive, wait staff knowledgeable and happy to oblige any special requests we had. a truly delightful experience.

yummy! went on a wednesday night at 6:30. wasn't to busy but 20 minutes later was almost full. food is delicious, i had the buff brahmas. place is small so based on reviews if you go on the weekend be prepared to wait. made to order food and if you have ever made fried chicken it's not necessarily quick. so try it for the first time during the week, then decide if the food is worth the wait on a weekend.

a+!. food is incredible. the wait can be discouraging, so can the wait staff some times. there have also been a few times where they weren't open on time. but i believe the food is ultimately worth it.

excellent for catering and dine in!. i have always enjoyed every meal at dame's. put simply they have excellent food and excellent service. but, what put them over the top for me was when i used dame's to cater my father's surprise 70th birthday/retirement party. i worked with mike (a manager) to come up with the menu and find out how much food i would need to accommodate everyone. mike was very professional and even was gracious enough to meet with my mom and i (over chicken and waffles of course), to finalize the menu and answer our questions. i was elated and so was everyone else at the party because their service and food exceeded all expectations. thank you dame's and (manager mike) for helping me to make my event a complete success!

i was amazed when the dish was served, which other people probably noticed when i wouldn’t stop taking pictures of my food. the macaroni and cheese was served in its own bowl and was golden with a generous amount of parsley for seasoning.

not yet for prime time - not even good.. i have passed by this place about 25 times since it opened. i wanted to make sure they had plenty of practice on others before i stopped. about two weeks ago i arrived by myself about 11:45am to beat the lunch rush. i was quickly served and ordered the fried chicken filet, blueberry waffles and spicy greens. the filet was hard as a rock, the waffles were just soft but not underdone. i like mine crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. the spicy greens were perfect! i told the waitress about my chicken and she tried to explain that "the crust is supposed to be crunchy". i told her this filet is crunchy all the way to the center and that if she did not believe me to let the cook take a look. she came back to fill my glass and told me my filet would be ready shortly.....never admitting that the cook's assistant over-cooked my order. anyway, another filet came and it was better but still much too tough. i will not re-visit.......even for the excellent greens. chicken is supposed to be their specialty. i predict that dames chicken and waffles will not last a year unless they fire the chicken cook.

my in-laws got there before me, my wife, son and brother-in-law did and they had a 20-30 minute wait. by he time we got there it was only about 2 minites. 30 minute wait for the food, but definitely worth it. although i probably would have preferred a breast over 4 wings, you get just full enough anyway on the waffle.

everyone else had the mac and cheese as a side which they loved and i sampled. i had the hot and spicy collard greens which were perfect. all in all the best tasting chicken and waffles in a while. my wife could have used some more water in her glass, but i am hoping they get this kinks worked out. they have only been open for 3 months in that location. i'll definitely be a regular of this place.
