we wanted to try a steakhouse that we had not gone to yet…let’s see if dakota’s can make our top three steakhouses in the dfw area!
om: al biernat’s has always been our gold standard for steakhouses, followed by the dallas chop house. i had only been to dakota’s once and remember it being pretty good…but wow, it blew my expectations away within seconds of being seated. dakota’s is “underground”, that is that we took an elevator going down from the street level. we asked for outdoor seating, and they placed our table right next to a beautiful little man-made waterfall feature. they decorated the area with some gourds, nice touch that matched with the time of year. our waiter, allen, was one of the best that we’ve had at any steakhouse – he was very polite and attentive throughout. i ordered chicken and rice soup for an appetizer, which was outstanding. my main course was a 12 oz. filet, which rivaled al biernat’s!! whaaaa??!!? it needed no sauce at all and was cooked perfectly! it was tender, had awesome flavor, easy to cut…just wow! and the side dish that we ordered was mac & cheese, and yes this was great too! i could go on and on about the overall experience of dakota’s, but there is no doubt that this is one of our top three steakhouses in the dfw area, and i would even say it skyrocketed to the top of our list. ambiance, service, food, we loved it all. try to get a seat outside!!!
nom: i really had a hard time imagining at steakhouse that would be as good or even super close to how good al biernat’s is. well we found it! i had never been to dakota’s but had seen it on the occasions i had to drive thru downtown dallas. it’s pretty sneaky the way you could miss it! think of it as dallas’ subterranean restaurant. my handsome love asked that we be seated outside and they sat us in the courtyard under the stars by the waterfall. the space is pretty good considering the limited outdoor area they have to work with. most of the wall was decorated with foliage, gourds and orange and white pumpkins! it was really beautiful. our waiter was spectacular…yes better than any other that has served us. i ordered the salad to start with ranch and it was not your typical wedge. more like a head of lettuce they shear the ends off. the bacon on my salad was amazing…i think i ate that first… i also ordered the rib eye steak and it was absolutely delicious! the sauce they serve on the side is also delicious but the steak could stand on its own. we also ordered the mac n cheese and it was the second best we’ve had!! i can’t wait to see this place at the holidays with my handsome love!!!
