my work colleagues were in town on a rare saturday night so we decided to check out a few of denver’s local hotspots. this was stop four along the trail. the cruise room is everything you’re looking for if you like late night crowded, loud and with good ambiance. we enjoyed a nice round of grapefruit infused vodka (deep eddie, ruby red grapefruit vodka from austin texas) while hanging out at the bar. the drink was so good we actually remembered drinking it at the end of a long night. and, as crowded as the bar was, i was pleasantly surprised by the fact that we could easily hear one another. i’m a bit old for this late night stuff, but i will say, i enjoyed the upscale environment, their great holiday decorations and if we’re going to hang out late once and a blue moon, this was a nice place to do it at.

a great "classic" martini bar straight outta the 30's (not that i was alive then, but certainly what i imagine it to have been). while they have a extensive list of fancy martinis, i found their classic martini to be killer. the waitstaff and bar tenders are great and the food was very good. i found the tuna tartar to be very nice. if you find yourself in denver i suggest you stop by and enjoy a drink and the ambiance.

this place is so much fun! the decor is straight out of the forties, right down to the servers attire. i think they're known for their oysters. i gave it a go, and probably won't be doing that again, but still loved the place. the martinis were great and the old juke box spitting classic tunes kept our large, and very diverse, group all happy. for me, this is a must-do in denver.

post-prohibition love. this bar, located discreetly in the oxford hotel, is a wonderful throwback to the post-prohibition era. it opened the moment prohibition ended, and the beautiful, original decor remains. despite the yuppie crowds who tend to frequent the place, you will still feel as though you have traveled back through time to a whole different era.

the bartenders are extremely professional, bowties included, and they mix wonderful classical cocktails. if you ask for a martini, you will get a martini - not some ridiculous liqueur-laden caricature of the original. they also serve scrumptious appetizers from the mccormick's kitchen located right next door.

if you can get past the irritating yuppie hordes that flood this bar from time to time, you can truly savor a slice of the past in its finest form. i recommend this bar to anyone seeking a nostalgic yet refreshingly current drinking and dining experience against which all others may be compared.

this is the bar at the classy oxford hotel. i first went there in 1969 when the oxford was a flophouse. the narrow room is still decorated as if you had walked in the place the day after prohibition ended. it's not retro/psuedo, but it is the same as it was and lovingly remains a 1030's bar. coolest bar in denver if you appreciate vibe and atmosphere that your grandpa would have felt at home with before he shipped out to fight the nazis.
