cogans pizza norfolk

a reason i miss norfolk. i miss thisplacesince moving to richmond. the pizza is good, the appetizers are excellent and a very good beer selection. but what makes thisplaceis the whole atmosphere of theplaceand how friendly the staff are.

i hit cogan's pizza up with a buddy in search of a good hand tossed pie. guess what? booyah! we found it at cogan's pizza. i ordered a large with pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, and olives. the crust was phenominal! 100% authentic and hand tossed. light but crispy, chewy enough but still soft. the sauce was another highlight, tasted like someone's grandma handed down from the old country! really bright, with pops of garlic and tang. ingredients were fresh and tasty. atmosphere is cool and casual! i like thisplacea lot. i'll be back. next time i will get some pics and post. i left my phone in the car. woops! lol! nice job cogan's i'll be back soon!

just moved back to town after 9 years of being gone. man how thisplacehas changed. it's still gritty but it looks like a chili's or something with all the crap on the walls. the pizza used to be so good. some punk kid with a mohawk used to make the best pie. service was.. meh. not the same as it was.i mean service was never really great unless you had the chick with the tattooed chest, but they told me she hadnt worked there in years. all and all it was.. meh.

excellant pizza!. have been looking for a while for a norfolk pizzaplacewith just really great pizza - and cogan's took over top spot for me. service is more depending on just how big the crowd is - most of the time has been good - but have not been on a friday or saturday night when they are super busy. great selection of beers - with alot of regional ones on the menu. highly recommend stopping by for the lunch buffet when the weather gets nice outside.

on the fence... food is so-so, excellent beer selection but lousy happy hour prices.. i miss the live music.. that was the reason to go here.. now i have nothing that pulls me in.

its ok. thisplaceis ok.. a lot of people rave about it, but i dont see what the fuss is about. i've been coming here for over 10 years.. mostly for drinks.. but as far as food.. i've never been real impressed.

greatplacefor an evening with friends. fantastic beer selection and one of a kind pizzas. try the portabella sandwich if you aren;t in the mood for pizza. i'ts great.

why is thisplaceso popular?. i've heard from a bunch of people, plus reviews on here, that cogan's has great pizza and is just overall awesome. i love pizza, so i figured i'd give it a shot. my fiance and i showed up around 6:45 on a sunday. we had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, which was fine, whatever. we were seated outside, which was fine because it was soooo loud inside. we sat at our table for about 10 minutes before a waitress ever acknowledged us. of course we already knew what we wanted since we waited so long, so we ordered sodas and our food all at once. it was a few minutes before we got our drinks, but whatever they were busy so we understood. it was another 15-20 minutes before we got our garlic knots and garden salad. the salad was very blah. the garlic knots were good. there were a lot of them though so we just had a few and got a box for the rest. it was about another 45 minutes before a waitress brought us a pizza, but they got our order wrong somehow. we ordered half pepperoni, half mushroom. we got half pepperoni, half pepper, with some other meat all over it (sausage?). so the waitress took it back and of course it was at least another 15 minutes before we got our pizza, during which time we finished the garlic knots. oh and we really only saw our waitress once or twice - a couple other waitresses brought the food or refilled our drinks. we asked for the pizza to go since we waited so long. we were there for almost 2 hours in total. there were no apologizes or offers for coupons, free desserts, or to comp something like other restaurants would likely offer. to top it off, the pizza was mediocre. after all the reviews and all these people who talked it up, i figured at least the pizza would make the bad service and long wait worth it. it didn't. if i were to ever go there again, it would be out of peer pressure. maybe you have to have a few drinks first to really appreciate the pizza?

amazing pizza...thisplacedoes it right

thisplacehas a great atmosphere, fun staff, a huge beer selection, & delicious food! my bf & i eat at both locations and always have a great experience. i recommend this to all my friends!

i was so hyped up about visiting thisplaceas i had heard about it from friends. i decided to get the norfolk club sandwich and it was exactly what i expected, oil and vineger soaked italian bread filled with turkey, fatty bacon, provolone, not so exciting lettuce, and mealy tomatoes. i knew i should have ordered pizza. my friend got wings since they were half off on mondays. i tried one of them and they were decent. we opted to sit out on the patio due to the gorgeous weather. our server was new but attentive. the decor was awesome, just enough reason for me to return. the food, not so much..

terrible food & service, great hangout spot.. cogans has always been a classic in ghent - however, the pizza is average and most of the time the service is terrible. on any given weekend - the wait it long and the service is slow. sometimes the pizza comes out overcooked and othertimes, undercooked. thisplaceis more a bar setting than a goodplaceto eat good food

pizza and beer: how could you go wrong?. the pizza here is delicious and i recommend the spicy sauce option. beer aficionados will enjoy the huge selection of off-the-beaten-path brews. the decor is quirky and fun and theplaceis usually packed at peak hours. unfortunately, this also means the service suffers. expect an exercise in patience if you're trying to get a drink order in on a weekend night.

great pizza. thisplacehas always been a little off center but in a good way. service is usually good but it's also usually crowded so keep your expectations real. it is a weird mix of stuff going on inside but it all works in a ghent sort of way.

the pizza is good and there are a lot of adult bev choices to keep you placated if there is a wait.

i have not tried the new vegan pizza. everything else i have had here has been good though so i wouldn't expect a difference there. also, never had delivery (what's the point?) from here.

used to go to taphouse but prefer thisplacefor beers/ales/etc.

placed a delivery order over an hour ago. called to check on the order and it wasn't even made yet and the girl who answered the phone was an idiot. eat there don't get it delivered. i will never order delivery again.

not for the impatient. this spot wins for character alone! this is my favoriteplacein norfolk to grab a beer and hang out with my friends. i practically grew up here. it is the home of 20+ years of local indie rock history. the bartenders are some of my favorite people to see and they have arrogant bastard ale on tap. in all honesty, while there, the food is an afterthought for me. when i do eat, i find that the service is on and off. once i was seated on the patio and it took 12 minutes for the server to greet us. (after 5 minutes i had grabbed the hostess and asked her to bring us some drinks and then started timing.) when i'm hungry, this is irritating. i don't hold it against them, though. i don't go there to have my butt pampered. i think the pizza and subs are pretty darn tasty but i usually order meals for pick up, unless i need something to soak up the alcohol.

great pizza, but crowded and noisy.. particularly like the wild mushroom pizza and the cheese pizza that has ricotta. however, theplaceitself tends to be crowded and exceptionally noisy due to high ceilings and lots of nice echo-y surfaces and they don't have nearly as many good beers as they have beers. available tables are often too large, too small or non-existant. their space is so limited, i'd love to see them refurbish with square tables that are easier to configure for different sized parties. and take a stab at managing the noise.

we usually come up with a reason not to go, but really enjoy the pizza when we do. delivery is usually a very long wait.
