used to serve great beef maki soup. now its too thick and meet was overcooked. their food quality surely declined and i hope they consider putting up airconditioning. kiampong rice was still nice though and beef ball soup was tasty.

hello peeps!

ambiance
to be honest, we did not intend to eat at this resto at all. we were looking to go to cafe mezzanine which is actually on the floor above chuan kee, but anyway, the place wasn't half bad. the restaurant is an open-door, air-conditioned food place that can get easily crowded. expect that the eng bee tin song will be stuck in your head after eating. it's clean and well-lit though, i'll give them that.

food
i often taste chinese cuisine during the birthdays of my uncles and aunts, and i've always liked them. the food here is no different. the pork liempo lacked preparation but still managed to taste good, and their fried chicken + canton combination is fail-proof.

service
with the busy nature of the restaurant, it's understandable that service can be a bit slow. however, it's easy to request something from the waiters thanks to the small space of chuan kee.

been here last month to try out binondo restaurants.
many customers thats why we were attracted to go.
we ordered the oyster cake one of their best seller. it was good quite authentic.
ambiance is good.
the serving of the food is big so its enough for two person (the oyster cake) they also have fruit shakes there and many more chinese foods ofc.
easy to locate
many tables for customers.
but dont go at peak hours.

chuan kee is another food venture of the owner of eng bee tin. it's located downstairs of cafe mezzanine.

we tried their ube halo-halo in 2014 and it was just worth less than p150 then. this dessert would truly quench your hunger for cold treats. it's cheesy unlike other halo-halo and of course it is topped with the fastfood's signature, ube ice cream.

we can say that chuan kee's halo-halo is worth the price because it is placed in a tall cup with generous servings of toppings such as banana, red beans, macapuno, among others. it's not sweet and it blends well with the cheese.

(disclosure: the eatventurers can no longer find the halo-halo in chuan kee's menu but cafe mezzanine still offers it).

it’s our first time in binondo so we ordered a lot-kiam pong, adobong tofu, asado, kikiam, sweet and sour meatballs, xiao long bao and hakaw - all were memorable for me except the ordinary tasting meatballs. my faves were the kiam pong, tofu, asado and hakaw. i wished more soup sana sa xiao long bao. overall we enjoyed our meal

quantity over quality type of food. may 10 pcs ka nga for 200 pesos, may identity crisis naman yung xiao long bao mo.

mas mukhang dumpling sa dami ng laman sa loob and barely any soup inside. still, malasa naman so di na rin masama.

note: dine in experience pre - quarantine period

food - specializes in chinese cuisine. ordered the "must-tries" - kiam pong rice, xiao long bao and lava buchi. kiam pong rice is overrated i must say, lava buchi is so-so, but xiao long bao is their gem and i can compare to that of din tai fung's in taipei.

place - located in the heart of binondo. spacious and well-staffed but gets crowded during peak hours. second level is café mezzanine.

price - average.

our wedding preparation involves trips to binondo! our favorite place for food trips. we tend to look for unpopular places rather than the mainstream ones but as we are fans of xiao long bao, we cannot pass chuan kee up!

we had:
📌 siomai 4pcs (p65) ⭐
first one they served had a bug in it ughhhh. they replaced it ofcourse. tastewise, basic. bit like the siomai in master siomai

📌 xiao long bao 10pcs (p180) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
the price = taste ratio is spot on. firm dumplings, tasty soup inside. the sauce compliments the dumpling really well too.

📌 custard lava pao 3pcs (p90) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
love at first bite!!!!!! the custard is hot and sweet. the perfect buns for me!!

ambiance ⭐⭐
too hot!!!!!!!

peso to busog ⭐⭐⭐⭐

will we go back? yes!

it was sunday, i do understand that we will be experiencing a little delay since people quickly come and go inside their restaurant but i didn’t expect that i’ll be waiting for 15 minutes to be given by a menu and another 30 long minutes before someone assists us for our orders. take note that i tried getting their attention for, i guess, 5-7 times before an attendant come to our table. they even assisted those who just came versus us who were waiting for half an hour already. (i’m not sure why, but whatever the reason is, the experience was so annoying! )

after getting our order of a not so friendly staff (this added to my kanegahan man! shoot!), i waited for another, i think, 45 minutes to finally get our orders. (medyo oa, pero totoo). they served the noodle soup first (with 15 minute-interval), then nothing came after that. i asked the attendant in charge regarding the supposed appetizer (our xiao long bao) and of course the drinks, that was the only time she told us that the black gulaman was not available and the mango juice was on its way, same with the xiao long bao, i replaced the black gulaman with their available bottled water instead.

the restaurant vibe take you on to another world of experience, it seems like you are on the streets of china, the food tasted really great but the prices compared to the ratio of food is a bit expensive. i do still suggest you give it a try, it's still worth it.

we usually go upstairs to cafe mezzanine, for the aircondition. but this time, the weather if cool, so is our chance to try chuan kee.

food is just the same as cafe mezzanine. only open air.. same good food. place is just as clean. highly recommended.

very good food considering the price. the place is really crowded during weekends and lunchtime to the point there's a queue outside. i highly recommend this place for your food hopping in binondo.
