chez joules does amazing french food for fantastic prices. the set lunch offers 3 courses for £9.95 including some of the best steak and chips i've ever had... and that's before i mention the amazing chocolate mousse. tres bien!
i was sat at a table with a rather rickety bench which added a bit of excitement to my lunch. a proper chair would have been great.

absolutely perfect. the service and food were excellent. they have all the french staple dishes on their menu. the atmosphere is very relaxed and youthful, but also very chatty, which i personally like, but might be too loud for some people. 5 star!

i thought chez joules was going to be a quaint and cosy kinda place -  but it's about four times the size i expected it to be and (though maybe because it was a friday night) pretty loud and boisterous. consequently it might be the sort of place you have to be in the mood for (too-close together tables meant people kept unapologetically barging behind my seat to get passed). but the food is delicious and the service was pretty fast and efficient for being so busy. four of us shared/devoured the macaroni cheese as a starter then i plumped for the very reasonably-priced rump steak (perfectly cooked and with its own dish of dauphinoise potatoes too). had a delicious brioche thing with ice cream, caramel and peanuts to end and all washed down with decent red wine. pas mal!

chez jules is reckoned by some as a bit of a find, with a delightful, candlelit interior, french service, and food with stonkingly good prices, there shouldn't be a lot to dislike....overall, we found our mains to be excellent. finally, i felt quite in the mood for some crepes, and asked if rather than coming with ice cream, could i possibly have some chantilly instead? they duly obliged, and i have to say the cream was the only part i liked, as the orange sauce was just too rich for my tastes. i really like chez jules.

been to chez jules for lunch and really enjoyed it. food, place, service, decoration were legit good. the portions could be larger however it's totally worth it for the price you're paying. lunch menu 3 courses for £9,90.
i had goat cheese, coq au vin and creme caramel. my friend had pate campagne, skirt steak and same desert. everything was very tasty but i didn't like the desert.
overall it's a great place to try something you don't normally eat on our daily bases for a cheap menu.
i did take a lot of pics so enjoy!

ps.: lunch menu goes from 12 - 16
and i'm definitely going back for the 6oz steak and half lobster

chez jules is reckoned by some as a bit of a find, with a delightful, candlelit interior, french service, and food with stonkingly good prices, there shouldn't be a lot to dislike.

s.o. and i went for one of our celebratory meals, so whilst supping on prosecco we perused the extensive menu. i had eaten there the week before, choosing the half lobster which was just great served up with french fries. on this occasion, we went for duck confit and smoked salmon to start and both the steaks for main.

i really liked the touch that the complementary charcuterie provided. it seems to me quite civilized to have a languorous meal in sumptuous surroundings, with bread and meat and pickles just a pre-requisite. our starters arrived looking suitably rustic. i found my salmon to be cut quite thickly, and though i'm all for big portions it felt somehow less enjoyable. s.o. wasn't impressed with the haphazard traditional plating, and found the flavours fell a bit short of what he expected. i, on the other hand, loved the luscious duck meat that flaked off of the bone.

our steaks were cooked perfectly. i adored the potato dauphinoise that it came with, and was totally distraught that i couldn't finish it despite my best attempts. all that bread at the beginning clearly did my no favours. overall, we found our mains to be excellent.

finally, i felt quite in the mood for some crepes, and asked if rather than coming with ice cream, could i possibly have some chantilly instead? they duly obliged, and i have to say the cream was the only part i liked, as the orange sauce was just too rich for my tastes.

i really like chez jules. i can see what all the fuss is about, as the experience is overwhelmingly continental. however, s.o. found it distinctly below par and much prefers his fine dining. i suppose it's a matter of taste, but take it from me, you won't go a wanting.

n.b. their lunch menu is extraordinarily priced!

bargain basement french style. the bright and cheery exterior of this little bistro draws you in and a glance at the menu board with it's classic french dishes proves too much to resist. once inside, the dining area is quite large but also too dark for my liking. still, it has a nice rustic, casual charm and the service is both friendly and quick. my fish soup was more of a stew and was delightful with the crusty bread. the coq au vin was equally impressive; rich velvety sauce, lovely herb mash and the meat falling off the bone. considering the quality of the food, it is incredible value for money and highly recommended.

i came here on friday evening with a friend and we had booked a table for 6pm.the restaurant was fairly quiet at this time which was nice but did feel a bit strange!

we were shown to our table and brought over some bread olives and salami to have with our drink. the wine i ordered came in a little glass tumbler as opposed to a wine glass which i was aware they did but it did still seem weird drinking wine that way! the food was really good - i had a half lobster and my friend had a steak which she ordered to be medium but it came a bit on the rare side (fine for me but not so much for her). for dessert we had a lemon sorbet and a creme brulee which was very good as well. the restaurant started to get very busy fairly quickly and became pretty noisy so we were quite happy once we finished eating to move on somewhere else.

the staff were lovely and polite but did seem distracted at times- like not bringing the dessert menu once we had requested it and we had to request it again and the bill etc but this wasn't down to how busy it was as there seemed to be a lot of staff working - although they weren't very identifiable as they weren't in a uniform or anything. i gave the review a 3.5 because the evening was good enough but it wasn't spectacular - the food was good but the atmosphere was a bit of a non-starter.

dined here recently and really enjoyed it. we were rather on the late side around 10pm having been at a networking event in 99 hanover.

still, it was no issue we were seated by the waitress and settled in. a bottle of prosecco came very reasonable priced and i really enjoyed the olives, pickles, salami, bread and salad. i read a review complaining they no longer give free pate too......seriously???

anyway, for my starter i went for the frogs legs and snails - 3 of each. garlicy goodness, i think how that can be best described. i managed to convert my 2 dining partners into being escargot fans which i am taking as a big win.

for main we all went for steak. i had rib-eye and the others went for fillet. i had the bayonaise sauce - wish i had gone garlic butter...hmmmmmmm garlic. we were served with a large dish of dauphoinise which i really liked. the steak was perfectly rare if a little on the thin side. very tasty meat though and well seasoned.

this was my first trip here, it wont be my last!!

ches jules comes highly jd recommended! :)

we wandered into the restaurant and the first thing we noticed was that it was very busy. we were sat near the back of the restaurant in between a few larger tables. it was a traditional style french restaurant; pretty dark, with only a waxy red candle to light us. we were handed the set menu, and as soon as i saw it i couldn’t help but smile. i would happily eat everything.

pierre is back on form. if i'm looking for a quick meal in the centre of town, then chez jules always hits the mark. they often do offers, but even the standard prices are exceptional with quality to match. steak and fries under £10 on a saturday night? look out for their fondue nights as well. with the second one opened and established in cockburn street, pierre le vicky is most definitely back.
