over rated; terrible, just terrible!. the chef’s table in winter garden was open for a mother’s day brunch this year, and was supposed to feature and ‘authentic new orleans' themed ‘brunch”. we made reservations for 4 people, via opentable, and within a few hours, the hostess (carrie), called to tell me that opentable had messed up, and that our time was not available, would we be okay with later that afternoon... then we were asked for our credit card information, because this would be a ‘pre-paid’ event... okay we can do that, but then later in the week, i get a call from another person, paul, who tells me that we need to pre-pay or our reservation would be cancelled. i called carrie back and asked why i got this message, since my credit card had already been charged for the full amount? well they are a little disorganized i am told. not a good sign of things to come!

what is normally expected for a mothers day ‘event’ like this, is to be warmly greeted, with a mimosa and maybe a flower for the mothers... instead, when we arrived, there were a lot of people waiting in the front for their tables, and surprisingly, we didn’t get a nice “happy mothers day” welcome greeting. instead, the hostess had a crumpled up handwritten notebook page full of scribbled names on it, that she was using for the reservation list and seating, and it really appeared that they were totally in the weeds. they had us wait at the bar, but no bartender came... we finally asked, and were told they would come in a minute. still no one. finally my wife goes back to the bar and asks, and she gets to play waiter, bringing the drinks to the table. after 15 minutes we get seated, in the far back room, dark, with no windows. we wait for about 10 minutes before the waitress finally comes to day hi, and asks about drinks, and walks us through the menu.

appetizer’s were served ‘family style’. the flatbread with a pinch of salmon was soggy & stale, and the salad was tiny. the new orleans style beignets were brought.... which looked horrible and so disappointing to eat; almost inedible they were so hard, chewy, you could just barely use a knife to get through them. we left a few on the plate.

the main course came, and the new orleans style eggs benedict using egg, on pulled pork, on cornbread with sauce, was a nice sounding dish.... except it arrived completely cold, and then used a fried egg instead of the promised poached one (details?). also, the fried potatoes that came with it, tasted like they came out of a frozen bag, and they didn't seem like they had seasoning at all. for the other dish, the veal cutlets were tiny over just a little bit of grits, no garnish, no extras at all. the cutlets tasted as bland as the dish looked.

when desert came, the banana’s foster came with a croissant instead of ice cream, and although that sounded nice, the croissants were not fresh or warm, therefore they were as chewy and tough as the beignets they had brought earlier. the bread pudding was tiny, but tasty, but again, no pizzazz to the presentation, or to the taste.

considering how highly rated this restaurant is supposed to be, it was a disorganized, mess, which we will never, ever repeat. the best part of the meal was when the check came, and we got to leave.

scrumpdeliocious!!!!!!. you know, as we constantly seek great dining experiences....we have finally found one worth recommending! the chef's table at the edgewater is more than the $50/person price. this is not only based on the quality and flavors of all courses, but in addition...the personalized service, incredibly charming atmosphere. personally, my favorite dishes are--mushroom appetizer--lamb--and berries dessert. we highly recommend and commend laurie and kevin's efforts and success!

a wonderful experience!. we ate here on our anniversary and i have been meaning to put my two cents in on the chef's table since... it was one of our best dining experiences in a long time. we went in with high expectations after reading other reviews and chef kevin exceeded them.

the food was amazing and we totally left our selections up to the chef. my wife and i are not picky, so we let kevin choose for us and had a wonderful evening. he mixed it up and we sampled eachother's meals and everything was excellent. to go with the meal, we ordered the wine pairings and they again exceeded our expectations with their selections.

if you have a special occasion or just want to have a wonderful and memorable dining experience, go to the chef's table and sit back and enjoy.

fresh and delishous --just amazing!. we have dined here in a saturday night and were completely blown away by how fresh and delicious the food was. do not skip the mushroom first course and if they have the filet on the menu it's one of the best in town. also the wine pairing was perfectly paired with our food.
our next experience was for mothers day brunch, and wow. the chefs did a great job with the new orleans dishes and service was spot on.
we can't wait to go back.

this place is tucked away & has only 10 tables in the dining room. food and atmosphere were both amazing.

don't know what happened. this was my wife and myself's favorite restaurant notice i said was i've been to the table many many times b since they opened and raved about it to all my friends and family but the last few times when eaten there i feel like table is going a bit down hill. maybe because of the new place which by the way i've had a few drinks at definitely worth a look the cocktails where tasty. but the table is pricey and i don't feel like i'm getting my moneys worth anymore.

well worth it!. i eat out a lot at a variety of restaurant styles and price points. but i choose the chef's table at the edgewater as the place for those very special occasions (such as a romantic dinner). having been there probably 6 times, i have never been disappointed. the staff's attentiveness is unintrusive yet punctual. the pride with which the food is prepared and served is apparent. the quality of the food is second to none. kevin and laurie do things right, making a visit to this chef's table well worth it!

wonderful experience!. my experiences at the chef's table have been truly wonderful! it is one of our favorite places to go for a special night out. kevin and laurie (chef/owners) excel at making you feel comfortable, welcome, and pampered. the menu always offers something new and exciting while still having some favorites that stay on the menu. the mushroom torte is my favorite appetizer. entrees offer something for everyone - from beef, seafood, pork, duckling, to other seasonal delicacies. kevin makes the most out of what is in season and adds his special touch to make everything mouth-watering. the chef's table is also wonderful at hosting private events. they have accommodated two private events and were also the location of our wedding proposal.

what are you going for..... more to the point, are you obsessed with eclectic and sometimes bizarre? are you in the trending crowd that feels like an up and coming foodie that thumbs your nose at anyplace that has a location in more than one city? do you dare not ever step foot in anywhere that is part of a corporation, albeit, fine dining? if you've bobbed your head to the aforementioned, you are likely to look past the minor inconveniences of widows that are taped shut, musty ceilings, and rooms that felt like refurbished storage closets. maybe you find mystique in being guided through narrow openings, prep stations, and "employees only" areas that seem like a cheap manipulated backstage to a theme park. an interior designer may fall prey to an artistic coma at places such as this. believe me i would have skipped the keystrokes if this were a review for a craft beer locale or an exotic taco franchise. this is written to an audience that is gauged to enjoy fine dining, whether a once in a great while celebration or to those working through a check list of the best of the best.

now the food...i will address this to the highs and lows of each course for the table. first course...sorry not really a high among the table. first course low, goes to the mushroom and chive crepe tort. the flavor was not necessarily the culprit here, best i could describe would be quantity and presentation. the appearance was that of an ill-conceived mushroom birthday cake, quickly sliced so that everyone could have a big "chunk". the shame here is that the first several bites were quite good--with that, you very well could just eat half and be pleased. however, one bite or two past the "too much of a good thing" has you wishing you stopped one bite before the stopping point. i am not implying that you are simply full, i found that it became an overwhelming flavor that transformed from pleasure to regret.

main course. the high would go to the chef's filet mignon, but before i end my praise, wait for the gut punch. the filet was outstanding, a buttery hint with a velvety texture that led one bite to the next. unfortunately, at this price point there are many winners in preparing a good filet and the differences are only razor thin. now the bad to the good...the accompanying honey chili roasted brussels sprout. the first was good but both the increase in time and/or quantity was quite cruel to this creation. before the plate was removed, the sensory connection of smell to the past lingering taste made for a painful connection. the low, winner, porcini rubbed pork chop. after making this selection, the oh so accurate phrase was uttered by our server; the pork on pork on pork. i have since imagined a filet, on burger, on roast and quickly concluded there should be neither beef on beef on beef or pork on pork on pork. the chop itself was flavorful and lent itself graciously to a well blended sweetness that also complimented the greens. the chop (alone) could have saved this entree. as a side note, i would humbly suggest that a meat pile not be served via bowl. tackling a mound of meat required a certain finesse when not on a plate.

third course high (unfortunately the menu online is not current) the winner was a heavily chocolate based dessert with an espresso topping and was well blended and not overpowering. however plating was once again suspect as the trailing/smudged chocolate sauce was reminiscent of a snail's trail; complete with a peanut brittle type garnish standing in as the snail. the low here was a forgettable banana creme brulee. there was an aftertaste of burnt wood, perhaps a matchstick was consumed.

i would be remiss to not mention the wine pairing. if you refer you the first of my review, i might have to inject a similar sarcasm. perhaps you prefer over-trendy, over-described, and perhaps too finely tuned. as mid-level wine enthusiast, only one pairing was superior, one mildly near the mark, and one horrendous. anyone beyond a novice may do well assuming the pairing to be good for suggestion but certainly explore where your pallet gravitates.

lastly, i feel just a twinge of guilt in that i had to select a thumbs up or thumbs down. on a five star scale i would likely go 2 or 3. our server rec'd a 20% tip for his efforts, no complaints were lodged from the table and the experience reminded us what we take for granted...there are establishments that have perfected the experience, the plating and the fare. i know a couple chef owned businesses in orlando that i would give a five star review and about three "corporate" businesses that would get a five star from me as well. would love to endorse them here but i want this to remain an unbiased review. i hope my honesty will leave you satisfied wherever you spend your hard earned dollar.

best burger i've ever had.. always heard amazing things about chef's table, but knew it was too much for our usual eating-out budget. so, when we were in winter garden and saw their sign for lunch specials, we decided to try it. their burgers are amazing, and i love duck fat fries! i had the triple cheese burger, and it was phenomenal-- ooey, gooey flavorful cheese, perfectly caramelized onions on a juicy burger... it cost more than your average burger, but it was worth it for the quality ingredients and great service! we'll be back!

tapas are amazing. we went for a light meal and loved it. with the help of our knowledgeable waiter, we chose wisely and had the smoked fish dip, scallops and the braised short rib wellington, followed by a special sweet potato bread pudding with salty caramel over ice cream. we are looking forward to a repeat visit!

i eat out a lot due to being out of town for work 4 months a year. i took my father down to orange county national for fathers day weekend but the only dinning we could find was in winter garden. we stumbled upon this little resturaunt for a nice dinner and i was shocked! this may be the best dinning experience i have ever had! if this place was near down town orlando it work need a week in advance reservation & be 3x as expensive. it was that good! we could not stop eating. we had the tuna & duck fat frys to start & the chicken livers & beef wellington for dinner. the owner came up to us and not like a normal manager of how was your meal. she checked on us and talke with us for about 10 min and you can tell her passion for food. i will drive out of my way to go here again
