it's worth the wait.. the bad things.....no reservations, lines of people, and not open past 2pm.

everything else is fantastic! good selection of local foods, and mix of brunch and lunch food. portion sizes are good, service is excellent.

the bacon flight is a must!

we don’t understand the hype about cheeky’s. we waited 20 minutes for a table. once seated we waited another 10 minutes to be served, 10 minutes for our beverages to arrive and another long wait for our food. when our food arrived the eggs were overcooked and the english muffin was dry making the eggs benedict quite unappealing. the yogurt/granola and berries was bitter tasting and the orange juice was about the same. we will not be back.

irish playwright george bernard shaw is widely credited with the aphorism “england and the united states are two nations divided by a common language.”  my kim and i had no idea just how different the queen’s english is from the english spoken by the colonists until we were assigned to royal air force fairford.  as part of the newcomers orientation, we were required to attend a course in which those vast differences were explained.  many of those differences were rather comedic, but we were warned, “if yanks aren’t careful, we could perpetuate the dreaded “ugly american” stereotype widely held in some parts of europe.”

open thursday through monday with a menu that has changed 466 times since opening nearly nine years ago cheeky’s has rightfully earned a reputation as *the* place for breakfast in palm springs, an arrival fifteen minutes before the restaurant opened its doors on sunday finding six names already on the waitlist with the first seating completely spoken for even before the service began at eight o’clock in the morning.

part if a group known as foundation-10 creative, next door pizzeria birba flying the same banner and equally packed the night prior from open until close, the concept driving cheeky’s is not dissimilar to that of many palm springs’ restaurants in terms of patio dining and a focus on comfort foods and local sourcing, the prices a bit higher than some may be used to but justified based on both portion sizes and a kitchen using organic flour and produce without any stabilizers, preservatives or artificial ingredients.

a hot spot for tourists, local families as well as the lgbt community, some kitschy artwork and a logo of monkey’s in suggestive positions adding a bit of humor to the otherwise standard concrete floors and plastic chairs, it was with names called out from the register that guests were escorted to their choice of indoor or outdoor seating, a space inside along the window providing a good vantage of both along with a steady stream of air-conditioning on an atypical day in october anticipated to crack 100°f.

featuring an on-site bakery in addition to the kitchen, the cinnamon rolls frequently selling out long before additional lunch plates join the all-day breakfast at 11:00am daily, it was with requests of one cinnamon roll packed to go that an additional two menu items were requested, coffee from australia’s vittoria roasters soon poured and coming across bold and smooth with three additional refills including one in a to-go cup to follow.

staffed by a large team, the kitchen partially visible and barista station always buzzing as lively music plays overhead, it was after no more than ten minutes that plates began to come over the pass and with one man directing traffic such that runners were almost interchangeable with waiters/waitresses it was at this time that the young man who’d previously been filling coffee presented a scalding hot skillet of monkey bread, the balls of dough lightly toasted on the exterior but soft as marshmallows otherwise with sweetness nicely balanced by the tangy cream cheese glaze.

working slowly on the monkey bread, largely as a matter of prolonging the indulgence but additionally to avoid a burned mouth, it was no more than five minutes later that a plate of cheeky’s weekly french toast arrived topped in greek yogurt and huckleberry syrup, the slices thin and crispy though certainly not as impressive as the blackberry custard version sold at wilma & frieda’s for a few bucks more while the cinnamon roll, on the other hand, was every bit as good as rumors have suggested with granulated sugar adding just enough sweetness to buttery, flaky curl.

after waiting over 1 1/2 hours to eat breakfast, we were sat outdoors on a beautiful yet pleasant sunny day. right from the get go, we were told of roughly seven things on the menu already out. i got a kiwi mimosa, bacon flight followed by a chorizo dish (pretty much reminded me of a breakfast nacho). two of the bacon (jalapeño and the smoked) were good. the other three i could've done without. the breakfast dish was okay. although described as a chorizo dish, there were very little chorizo. my family got a burger, waffle as well as an omelette dishes. all in all, the consensus were mediocre at best. definitely not worth the wait.

this place was not what i was expecting at all our whole table was disappointed with their meals.. i have celiac disease and the gf waffle is cooked in the same waffle maker as all other non gf waffles.. when i asked if the machine could at least be wiped down in between was given a look like i was crazy, and asked how sick would you get? they claim to have gf options but the only truly gf thing was the granola.. the fact that we drove 45 minutes and waited a half hour in line for food that was less than satisfying was upsetting

i have been in palm springs about a week. we haven't finished a meal at any of the restaurants and rarely found it necessary to take anything home to have more of. cheeky's is the exception. it was amazing. there is a line for a reason. we had brunch items and they were all incredible. if you visit palm springs, cheeky's is a must!
