love it!. great staff and honest home cooking. i like there new restaurant and there much needed parking. very busy lunch seen and standing in line is normal but worth it. my favorites are the chicken spaghetti, meat loaf, and chicken fried steaks. oh don't forget the pies......

great food, mediocre service. while i continue to enjoy the food served at cast iron grill the service has been mediocre since they moved to the new location. i've noted in the past that if you're not a regular you don't get the same homey service but with the move it seems the staff is overwhelmed so the difference in how regulars are treated and those of us who visit about once a month is noticeable. i think i'll stay away for a while and let them get things under control before returning.

great lunch!. oh my, what to say? it's good food at a good price! pot roast tuesdays are my favorite, chicken and dumplings are amazing, as is the chicken fry! it is run well, staff is helpful, cheerful, and friendly!

a friend was in town and enjoys eating at locally owned restaurants. i picked the cast iron grill, for him to try. he was impressed with the food and the staff. an omelet was suggested to which we added cream cheese. he was impressed with the speed we received our food and the waitress as well. she answered all of his questions with ease. he commented on the friendliness of everyone that stopped by just to say hello. as we were leaving tracy came by, to say hello and told us to have a blessed day. you have a new fan from austin, texas. thank you for everything you do.

not a chain restaurant!!! woo hoo. this place has a down home commitment to excellence & their pride shows in how they treat the public. great food & amazing sounding pies! i envy the staff as they are associated with greatness through this resaurant.

french toast not so good anymore. i love going to the cig but lately my use to be favorite dish isn't so favorite anymore. the french toast has gotten soggy and burned at the same time. not good!! the rest of the food is awesome and i will continue to go to the cig, especially for lunch.

best place in lubbock to eat. the cast iron grill(cig) is one of the best restaurants in town. breakfast and lunch are both served here and not only is the food yummy, but the service is great. the ladies and gentleman that work for the cig are always friendly and that is the reason they are always busy. not only is their food delicious but their dessert is awesome. if you are in lubbock for the day, i suggest you try them for either breakfast or lunch. tell teresa, missy sent you.

comfort food. great comfort food place! i've been here for breakfast and lunch. they give generous portions. great pancakes, omelets, and hash browns(one of the few places in lubbock that actually cooks them right!). staff is super friendly. prices are very reasonable and affordable. awesome pies.

home away from home. the best eats in lubbock, cooked the way you want it and the staff is wonderful, everyone treats you as family and make you feel at home. let us not forget those dessert , so good. you will always hear woot woot from the grill or oh my lanta you know that you are at the cast iron grill. special thank you to theresa for all her prayers she will always have a special place in my heart.

very impressed!. the service was fast and friendly and the food was super good! just basic home cookin', sort of diner style food. the fried chicken was crisp and tender, not too greasy. the fried green beans were wow! and the mashed taters with chunks of real bacon... did i mention bacon? sooo good.

for desert we had pie... the crust was homemade, very tender and flaky. somebody in that kitchen knows what they're doin!

chicken-fried-chicken!. i will lay claim that cast iron grill has the best chicken-fried-chicken in town. great home cooked meals at a reasonable price.

the grill is definitely a diamond in the rough! the chicken fried chicken steak is excellent as well as the chicken fried steak. highly reccomend this great spot! hospitality is tops! the owner has an excellent hands on attitude and greets all her customers great upbeat ambience!

wife and i tried cig fit.... wife and i tried cig for the first time today...impressive! we stuck with the basics, burger and onion rings for me and chicken salad sandwich and chips for her. very good burger meat, but the misses said she would order something different the next time. chips were homemade. also tried their green chili stew, which was very good. had pumpkin turtle pie for dessert that we both enjoyed. i look forward to trying breakfast there. i would encourage you to give this restaurant a try.

finally tried it.. due to a bad impression from going to the doll house many years ago, we weren't eager to try cig right away. however, many friends have told us how much they like the home cooking. we finally went this week and tried the hamburgers, which were very good. although the decorations, tables and chairs are mismatched odds and ends, the friendly service makes you forget about that. it's definately busy at lunch, but the food was very good and they are fast. i think we will return soon. my husband really liked the pie, but i was too full to try it. maybe next time!

recent visit update. this fall, we've had lunch at the cast iron grill several times after not having dined there often for a long while.

i'm more impressed than ever with the food. chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans is very good. burgers are very good.

and again, they have homemade chocolate (and other) pies which is so rare these days. it's just a bright spot in a day to have lunch in what was the doll house cafe for years.

they make pies!. it's actually hard to find a place that makes pies anymore. their chocolate is great! we like the people and the food - a real downtown treasure in what used to be the doll house cafe for years.
