nice lunch

this is off the beaten path, and worth a visit for authentic mexican food. we had a sope with pork as a starter, followed by huaraches pastor and pozole. service was prompt and courteous, and the price was quite reasonable.

this is where it's at if you want authentic mexican food in san antonio. no tex-mex here! i go to mexico at least twice a year & have been searching for a place with comparable food. there are only a handful of places, this is one!

a great change of pace of you are looking for something other than tex mex. not many restaurants have items like tinga tacos, nopales salad, conchinita pibil, and much more. i had huevos divorciados, which was really good. the corn tortillas were perfect, and i received great service. another great option in san antonio. @

great little place, very little parking. but thats typical of southtown, just enjoy the short walk.
flavors are unique and reflect some genuine creativity.  not tex-mex, much more authentic.
very small inside, but the patio is comfortable and charming with lots of shade.  service is very friendly and attentive, but sometimes overwhelmed at peak times.
fideo as an appetizer is quite good and hints at the spice pallet used in their signature meats like the puerco cascabel.
first-timers may enjoy getting mini tacos ala carte to sample the various meats, that would be five, i guess. wow.
we spend between 18-24 bucks a couple, with tea and no dessert, all in.
i wish they had dinnertime hours.

pues aqui no me gusto!. well that's what my mexican mother said and we all agreed with her. since we eat in a lot of mexican restaurants in the west side of san antonio this place is just another among the rest. the food was not impressive but it was expensive. the white rice has no flavor the mini bean & cheese burritos for $7.50 are not worth price. we take mommy here again she will disown us enough said.

absolutely love this place. felt like we were far from san antonio. more like a quaint town in mexico. family fun. authentic mexican fare not tex mex. we had mole poblano and a homemade tamarindo to drink. eat on the patio if you can. it's not as hot there as it is in the rest of the city. our bill was $25 ns my husband was having trouble finding change. the waitress said, "if you can't find it just pay me $20." our favorite spot on this visit to san antonio.

better than rosario's!. went for lunch on last day in san antonio and were looking for good mexican food and we found it! the waitress was very nice and told us right from the start that this is not tex mex but authentic mexican which was great because that is what i wanted. the menu is small and most stuff is $ 7.50. she translated and explained what the meats were. she directed us to the marinated pork and steak and we were very happy with our choice! food was fast and delicious and meat was great! definitely recommend.

found this place through urbanspoon when another place we wanted to go wasn't open. i had the enchiladas verde and my husband had the mole poblano. both were delicious. not tex mex. a wonderful surprise and really fresh food.

cascabel walks the walk!. honestly, i thought i had reviewed this place a while back. evidently not. (i may need to get back on my ginko biloba!) anyway, here's what i'll say - one of the best breakfast's of my life has been here. huevos a la cascabel. simply joy on a plate. two eggs with a rich salsa, black beans with queso fresco, and fresh made corn tortillas. so unbelievably good.
and the whole menu is a joy really. i've eaten dinner and lunch here too, and the authenticity is refreshing, but what really draws me back here is the freshness of the ingredients. everything here is handmade when you order it, making this some the most original food in the city with prices that make food this fresh hard to beat anywhere.
the place is small, and i actually love all the (graffiti?) on the walls. service is always fast and friendly, and parking is a little disjointed, especially if its crowded, but somehow i always find a spot.
lots of places talk the "authentic" talk, but cascabel walks the "authentic" walk.
