buck & honey’s

great food. my wife and i went in for a dinner before we were tired of going top the same place. the server was friendly and accommodated all of our needs. i would dedicatedly go back.

let's start with the ambiance at buck and honey's. it's beautiful. both inside and out. indoors is modern, bright, wooden, airy. the restrooms are clean and smell fresh. the outdoor patio is filled w/flowers, plenty of tables with both gazebo and umbrella options for shade. it's a welcoming space.

as far as the service goes, it's a little more mixed. the hostess was friendly, seated us immediately, and brought us waters and menus. then we waited. we waited to the point when we were just about to get someone or leave, when the waiter finally came over. from that point on, he was back regularly to refill beverages and check on us and i have no complaints. but it was odd, after we had ordered, a waitress came by to take our order. it seems like there is some confusion about who is working which tables.

moving on to the food. salads, sandwiches, appetizers. fairly standard, but with some interesting twists which sounded good. for example bacon-wrapped curds. i ordered the ta's hot comby which includes ham, salami and pepperoni, green pepper, onion, mozzarella and sauce on a toasted hoagie. it was tasty but the green pepper and onion would have been much better if they had been sauteed longer and allowed to caramelize. (they were hot but needed cooked more). also it was just dripping w/sauce. i think the sauce was a variation of italian dressing and it was tasty but way too much. they even included an extra side of sauce, so i'm guessing some people must really like it that way. my companion had the smoked salmon super wrap which he did enjoy. it included lots of veggies. we both ordered the sweet potato fries. overall, the portion sizes seemed a mite minuscule for the prices.

i'd go there if you are looking for great atmosphere, but i just wasn't wowed by the service or food.

bad experience, food was overpriced
and barely warm, small portions, tables too close together. my husband's fish was lukewarm and mushy. if the food had been hot and maybe a little more food for the price, or we had gone with the specials others rave about, our experience would have been better. we walked away 70.00 lighter and very disappointed.

loved it!. one random weeknight my husband and i decided to give buck & honey's a try and we are glad we did. my husband ordered the walleye and while i don't eat seafood he insisted i try a bite because they thought it was one of the best walleye he's ever had (and he pretty orders it every time he can!). i also thought it was quite good. i had the ribs with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese, all of which was delicious. i would definitely go back!

not returning. i've tried the hot comby and the fish tacos and because i wasn't impressed with either, i went with the burger on my last visit. the burger was cooked medium but all i could taste was charcoal. i tried more ketchup and mustard to improve the burger... but three strikes and i'm out. at $12 for the burger lunch i'd expect much much more.

great date restaurant. not cheap but i've never had a bad experience and the place is always packed so they must know what they're doing. the bar is pretty good to.

over priced, bland food. where do i start? took my wife out for a special night and made the mistake of going to this place. nice atmosphere and waitstaff, but it is really loud inside! the mixed drinks were watered down to nothing, the french onion soup had no flavor and my very over priced steak meal was way under cooked (at the suggestion of my waitress)! the house salad was ok but not worth the extra money that they charged me.
my wife had the cod and would not order it again. we both had the cheesy hash browns which were nice and hot, but lacked any taste whatsoever!
all in all, a very disappointing meal in a very loud dining environment. i suggest you go elsewhere for fish and steak, especially at these outrageous prices!!!

overall the meal was great. the restaurant itself was very cute as well, a bit like a bar, but not too crazy (although there wasn’t a football game going on at the time) and the staff were all wonderful. i definitely recommend it if you are looking for somewhere to eat in sun prairie, i was there was one closer to our side of town!

madcity marty. simply put, the name has changed the food is still proceed fade food, like red robin, quaker steak, bw's... nothing striking.

the good and the bad. this was my second time there, and just like the first, there were positives and negatives. the service was average, drinks decent, and we had plenty of menu selections between all of us. main things to remember, don't try the fish tacos! i am a fish taco lover, and i couldn't stand more than a bite. nachos, chicken parmesean, desserts, roasted goat cheese, and various specials were definitely items to have again. give this place a try...just not so sure about the seafood!

food was very bland. i had the worst burger ever at buck n honey's.

the moral is - there's no moral. dig in, be thankful, there's really good ice cream for dessert if you clean your plate.

odd food, slightly bland, service ok. the service at buck & honey's isn't spectacular, but it could be worse- not very attentive but not rude. we were seated next to a door leading into a "patio" area inside the main building, and the noise was atrocious. the did close the door when we asked. the food was odd and not very good. i had buck's chicken, a weird take on chicken prosciutto. provolone cheese, fried onions, bacon and bbq sauce on chicken? who thought that one up? the chicken itself was rubbery and tasteless, but somewhat saved by the sweetish bbq sauce covering it. the bacon was under-done. the whole mess was topped with a mountain of friend onions. weird combo. the garlic mashed potatoes had a nice texture but little flavor. the whole dinner was partially saved by the grilled asparagus-- perfectly cooked and seasoned! unfortunately, at the time i ate there it was out of season and the only available vegetable on the menu; i found this a pretentious waste.

a disappointing dinner. we went to buck & honey's for dinner. it was busy but not over crowded. we waited briefly at the bar for a table and that was quite pleasant. once we were seated, however, the disappointment began.

it was a full ten minutes before we were served water and informed that we would have a different server because the first one was over-seated.

we ordered the two main dishes each with two sides. my dining partner requested the grilled mixed vegetables. i also ordered the crab cakes.

the "grilled mixed vegetables" were not. it was instead boild corn. when we asked our server about this she informed us that this is a common practice and there are rarely grilled mixed veg as the menu says.

the crab cakes i oredered were tatsey but miniscule. for $10 i received four very small crab cakes that were burnt on the bottom. i would estimate the size of each one as smaller than a standard marshmallow but similarly shaped.

i cannot say that i will return but the atmosphere and building are lovely.
