good pizza. this is a tiny restaurant in hilcrest. the pizza is not overwhelmingly huge. i like the crispy thin crust. i just wish it was freshly made to order. you order per slice you can pick different ones and they heat it up.

great spot to grab a slice. this place is a hometown favorite. cheap, fast, and good. i wish there was more seating.

this place is too hyped. toppings were good but the crust was hard, think it was left out for a while.

being from the east coast i do know the real ny pizza it's loaded with gooey cheese, large slices you can fold in half. this pizza may have been out too long then reheated too much. it was more of a dry burnt calif version of what they think ny pizza is.
i'm in search of the real thing haven't found yet in san diego. perhaps la is the place to try.

$3 slices are usually decent pizzas at large portions, but this pizza is much better than that. the slices come in a variety of toppings and flavors. all of them are thin-crusted and crispy. as you bite in you can feel the crunch and crackle of the crust because it takes center stage; the toppings are there to accent the textures and flavors.

this might be an over-the-top review for a $3 pizza, but it was delightful to eat.

so what has happened to bronx pizza's crust?  i have been a big fan of bronx pizza for many years.  coming from the east coast, and growing up outside of new york city, i would tell everyone who asked that bronx pizza was the closest thing you can get to a new york pizza in san diego.  after a visit the other day, i am afraid that i will have to find another place to recommend.

you still get the amazing assortment of pizzas by the slice and many of the toppings are delicious.  their sauces (red and white) are still wonderful.  but the crust on three different slices was flavorless cardboard.  it was under-salted, and over-worked.  the outside edge was mostly air.

this german/irish boy loves his bread, and i couldn't even eat the crust of this pizza!!

i will go back again soon to see if this was just a bad dough batch, but i think someone at bronx needs to take a trip back to the real bronx and true-up the dough recipe.

i worked at a quality pizzeria for years and i'm very picky about pizza. i heard good things about this place and new york style is my favorite type of pizza so i thought i'd give it a shot. tiny place, with a surprising amount of seating which is adorably decorated with kid-drawn pizza pictures and new york art. very cool! the cashier was so friendly, we chit chatted while waiting for my slice and it was a very natural and genuine conversation. and of course, the pizza: i approve! i got the margarita pizza, one of my favorites, and it was very good. not too greasy, the crust was good, fresh ingredients, was able to fold in half (because how else do you eat a ny pizza?) i'd go again for sure. to top it all off, cheap meal! my only complaint, flies but it is an open restaurant.

our favorite spot for new york-style pizza in san diego is bronx pizza. it’s been years since i wrote about it, so i decided to write an updated post. you can order by the slice from the large selection of pies available at the counter or order a fresh whole pie. we usually order a whole pie or pies depending on how many people we’re eating here with.

ultra thin crust "pies" served with a quickness and a big ol' attitude straight from da bronx. the spinach ricotta and classic cheese are vegetarian favorites. all the flavors i've ever tasted were drool-worthy. the pizza pies are displayed inside in a glass case. you can order by the slice or buy the pie. the inside seating area has expanded, but if you don't want to stay and hang, order for pickup and walk up to the window for easy checkout. they're open late, but not too late, so feed your hunger before 10/11pm.

solid nyc style pie. this place is solid, but i personally don't think it deserves all the raves. i'm not the biggest pizza fan, but i think luigi's, newport pizza and alehouse and regents pizza are nearly as good in general and better in some cases. if you're in the area, definitely stop by, put don't expect to think it's the "best pizza ever". oh, the other places i mentioned sell beer. i believe that's not the case for bronx. i did give it thumbs up...
