this is one of my favourite pubs in melbourne! great parmas, chips, beers and sunday roasts! love the board games and fireplace. only thing missing is a pool table!

great cute little pub plenty to love!!. my husband and i come to this pub for sunday sippers regularly. we are never disappointed. the food is a great price and really tasty.. especially the burger would have to be a favourite!! we love the courtyard at the back, it feels like your own private lounge area. the staff are really friendly and always accommodating!! would recommend to anyone wanting a chilled out vibe, good food and great people.

friendly, spacious, and great food. we experienced very friendly service, really great food, and very decent prices for the type of stuff they are creating/serving; gourmet tasting/ artfully presented, and a reasonable amount of it on the plate. what was really nice was that this was all delivered in conjunction with a spacious/uncluttered floor-space/ atmosphere... generally we steer-clear of the cbd/lygon st. etc., because in those locations patrons tend to be 'packed in like sardines'... if you enjoy a more relaxed, less cramped atmosphere while you dine, you will probably like this joint. eating out is of course a very subjective thing, but personally, i could not fault these guys. if you check out their menu in advance, and go there and order something you like the sound of, i doubt you will be disappointed. btw, for anyone who has never tried truffles, but is curious, they do an awesome salmon/asparagus/truffle dish for under $30. i'd never tried truffles before, and now i realise what all the fuss is about! five stars from us, absolutely, on all fronts!

pub with a homely feel. came here and was unexpectedly surprised. after having read some reviews i wasn't expecting much, but it was great! the brandon is a pub with a very homely feel, we sat next to the fireplace, service was great and food was good. i ordered a parma which was yum. my partner ordered a steak that was cooked well, chose the mash and mushroom sauce to go with it and he enjoyed it. only thing was he said the steak had too much fat and grisly bits but other than that the food was above average for a pub. we also got to play darts out in the courtyard which was a bonus!

birthday celebration. went to this hotel tonight for a birthday celebration. it was warm and cosy and our waitress was extremely friendly. my friend and i both ordered the barramundi and it was ten out of ten. would definitely go back and would highly recommend.

not good. went down for steak night. charged $6 for soda water poured from a coles bottle. male staff member was rude and abrupt when we ordered. both steaks smelt completely off. requested rare, luckily came out well done otherwise would definitely have ended up with food poisoning. was too nervous of the rude barman to mention that the steak smelled gross and that we requested vegetables and got chips. won't be back.

great place but needs consistency. as regulars at the brandon we love the friendly staff and comfortable ambience. the menu is interesting and varied but sometimes you just feel like a pub classic. mostly these are very good but: (1) a large dose of hot english mustard hidden in a burger is not a great idea and (2) three thin strips of chicken hidden under a slice of ham and cheese is not what most people are expecting when they order a parma!

inner suburban delight. we took family from interstate to brandon hotel, it was a great experience for all of us.... brandon hotel is a hidden delight in carlton north the staff were very friendly & attentive.....the menu was really interesting, great to have something different on the menu. the food was absolutely magnificent & beautifully presented, complements to the chef..... it is well worth a visit to this beautiful inner suburban delight......you will not be disappointed.....

always on the money. always a pleasure to wine and dine here. quality food and wine and wonderful service, great atmosphere, and located in a sleepy residential area of carlton. and check out their website for the specials nites ... always good value and good quality.

enjoy a relaxing evening by the fire. a wonderful evening, with always a warm welcome, consistently great food, great wine selection, inner north ambience, cosiness on a cool winter night near the fire ... always a joy to visit. a quiet pocket in carlton. ticks all the boxes.

hidden gem. seriously, this place is amazing. we live a couple of tram spots further north and are surrounded by pubs (railway, northern star, empress, etc) but this is, hands down, a hidden gem. what i can't understand is why the place isn't packed out 7 days a week. i hate saying food is amazing for the price because it shouldn't be about price, but every time we come here we are blown away by fresh and interesting flavours at a fantastic price.
i know they do parma and pots nights and if you're looking for cheap you can get it here. but go via the menu, especially the "bites" and you won't be disappointed.

one of those occasions when 'like' or 'don't like' is not enough distinction. pros: food (overall), and that rare restaurant where you can talk without yelling. cons: underwhelming and slow service (had to wait 15 minutes to be offered a drink – in a pub!), quite a few menu items and specials unavailable. we've been twice and would probably go again, but only occasionally.

good produce, great result. am just new to this world of on line reviews - had a sunday lunch at the brandon hotel in the bar with 3 friends yesterday. the lass at the bar was prompt and helpful. it was mentioned that the current menu is fairly new but not having eaten at this hotel before i can't really comment on that. upon the meals being served, the quality of the produce was clear to see ranging from a couple of the entree tasters through to the mains. good flavours and some clever dishes that didn't try and be too clever. all in all, high quality meals that i expect would be reliable upon each visit.

lunch menu offered a good selection, not your typical pub fare, little bit more upmarket but with a couple of old favs like parma/ fish n chips. service was excellent and friendly. food was out pretty quick and tasted freshly prepared and nicely seasoned. better than most pubs in the area.

this was my first time dining at the brandon hotel & i was extremely happy with my meal. i had the steak & it was cooked perfectly to how i ordered it. the staff were very efficient & friendly & the atmosphere was relaxed. i plan to go back again soon & recommend this establishment.

great local. having recently moved into the area, i thought i would check out brandon hotel and wow, what a great pub! the food was just what you want in your local pub. my friend and i shared a few small plates: lamb cutlets and the soft shell crab taco were our favourites but tuna and samosas were also great.
the atmosphere is very laid back and the staff were super friendly. and they have lots of card and board games available in the front bar. all in all i think i found a perfect new local!
