bourbon house

really enjoyed it. after arriving in town, and seeing what bourbon street is really all about (mayhem), we were skeptical of keeping our dinner reservation. we are glad that we did keep them!

the interior of the restaurant is very nice, and large windows to people watch the non stop action of people "walking" up and down bourbon street...without the noise and racket.

we arrived not looking for a big dinner this evening, but for starters we had some louisiana oysters which arrived nicely shucked with fresh lemon wedges. we dressed them slightly with some crystal hot sauce - perfect!

next up we split an authentic gumbo which was very good, we also split a caesar salad which the dressing was really very good, lots of anchovy taste punch which is always welcome.

we had the seared tuna entree which was very tasty, but portion wise, very small, the accompaniments the tuna came with were good, the dill-jalapeño yogurt paired perfectly with the seared tuna just overall the dish is small.

service was great, there is a sizeable wine list and lots of bourbon's to choose from. a safe bet if your in the area.

loved the service it was great. the bourbon list was immense. the food was quite good if a bit overpriced.

the drink server was great, he actually took care of us because our waitress did not have time for us. my wifes fish was on a bed of minute rice and the sauce was not even cooked. it was very cold also. my dish wasn't what i ordered, they took it off the table and i received nothing else but the check. of course we had to pay a crazy amount of money for this meal and when i asked for a break on it they said you should not have eaten off the plate. hope they change. very bad experience.

outstanding food and outstanding service! never had better! asked to be sat in will's area, he's the best service i've ever had!

terrible and slow service... food was fancy and not very good and it was served to us super cold. we ended up asking the manager to comp the entrees coz we couldn't wait another 30mins for our food to come out. save your money and go elsewhere. this brennan restaurant has gone downhill...

overall was good. the good: oysters, short wait, atmosphere
the bad: more expensive than other places near by, seafood gumbo is good but better elsewhere

good food. upscale atmosphere. small portions and expensive. had the spinach salad with grilled chicken.

bbq shrimp were up to par to mr. b's and pascal's manale bbq shrimp both of which are the best in town.

go early and you can get seated right away. service is first rate, food is good but overpriced. if you don't mind that then is is not a big deal. my only complaint was the pie crust was very tough, maybe they can't make it from scratch.

food was entirely over cooked!!!

good food poor service. had dinner here tonight. while the food is good the service seriously lack. we got one cocktail before dinner and were never ask again until our dinner was all but eaten. if you dont mind the bad service then the food will not disappoint.

service was horrible. as working in the service industry for 11 years, i understand when things go wrong. but when u have 3 people waiting on u, you should never have to ask for anything. on that note, i felt like we were ignored. having to ask for straws (more then once) and having to ask for condiments (more then once) is just uncalled for. asking to have the table cleaned of bread crumbs is just ridiculous. just based on the service i will never return!

this restaurant stinks. i had the worst po'boy at bourban house i have ever had. inane been coming to nola several times a year since 1067 and i had my first nola bad meal today at the bourbon house. dickie brennan must have paid for the highly rated reviews by the pros, as he didn't get them based on the food.2

pretty good, but not special, food. poor service.. my friend said we had to go for their shrimp creole.

we walked in off the street and were seated, then sat waiting. finally someone came to take drink orders but he was not our server. when we asked about a couple of the microbrews, he suggested he could bring tasting samples. i kid you not, the bartender put the film of some beer in the bottoms of the glasses. i went from "hey thanks" to being kind of put off. i went ahead and ordered a full beer based on one of the dropperfuls that crossed my palate.

our server eventually turned up. there were other items on the menu i might have ordered, but i got the shrimp creole and i was okay with that. the dish was good, the shrimp were a little bit over but the flavor was nice.

getting a table was easy on a friday night and that is telling. there were lines elsewhere. you could do much worse, but also ...

stick to the oysters. my friend and i decided to come here during mardi gras based on the reviews we had seen. i ordered the crystal alligator, a salad, and the catfish po' boy. i was so disappointed; ok granted, they are known for their oysters but i figured the other food would at least be decent as well. i've had alligator before and go figure that it was better in montreal than in nola. they were tangy and paired with a bitter blue cheese sauce, quite unpalatable. i took one bite of the po' boy and gave it to a homeless person later on; it was flavorless and so disheartening. the salad was actually quite good however
