update: have actually come back and grabbed oysters and a meal at the bar twice. while the food is pretty good and the oysters, raw and chargrilled very good but expensive, the servers are a bit tacky and unprofessional when you sit at the bar. last trip they chirped non stop in song and prose about when they were closing, getting off and partying.....and they did it non stop from 1020 on......very unprofessional and frankly two of them could be mistaken for homeless folks stopping in behind the bar.

no can doosville baby doll. well, i never......

will go back to this particular eatery. reason?

stopped in with my son for a pre-dinner at mr. b's snack. tried to find open seats at oyster bar and could not so asked for a small two top in the not overly full dining room at 430 or so.

the host stepped away and came back in a few and told us we could eat at the " back" bar. oh, ok, cool. until we walked and walked and ended up at a bar in a hotel lobby off the main restaurant with none of the ambience and feel of the inside, which to me is half the experience. decided we would try it anyway......until.....

ten minutes in, no one even staffed the bar and the place was a tourist haven of half inebriated, white socks and sandals folks who keep streaming in. when someone finally showed, they assisted two other parties standing at the bar who had just walked up and ignored those sitting at the bar waiting.

after a few more minutes, i assessed the options and made the right decision to leave the place.

being a veteran of the dining scene here, i will not be going back here and will support other spots with my dining ducats.

poor service and experience overall. food? who cares when this is the way you are treated.

cold food that is supposed to be warm. and it's not busy. they spilled a whole plate on our table. entrees used to be good. they brought out a glass that we had to pay a deposit on. not a fine dinning restaurant if you have to charge a deposit on a glass.

ugh.. the hostess was very passively rude. there was almost no one in the restaurant, yet we waited for nearly 15 minutes for them to "clear a table."

i was really disappointed in my cuban. i picked out the pulled pork and the rest wound up getting thrown away. the chips were cooked in burnt oil and were overly salty. the others at the table enjoyed their raw oysters and bloody marys. thankfully the waitress was nice.

we were quickly seated, our drink server nick, arrived and we received our drinks within 5 minutes. our server george, took our food order of two appetizers and two entrees. after 40 minutes of waiting and being served twice someone else's food, we were finally served one of our appetizers, calamari. three tables who were seated after us received their food and closed their tab before we were done with our calamari. add another 25 minutes and still no sign of the second entree, a dozen chargrilled oysters, we asked to see george who came dashing out with a dozen raw oysters. by than, we were too fed up. we closed our bill immediately. no apology was ever given. we will not be returning nor will we recommend this place to anyone.

i bet you never thought i’d finish my new orleans series! this is the fifth and final installment. blog #1 was on sights to the north of lake pontchartrain, blog #2 was on dining at night, and blog #3 was on drinking at night. blog #4 took us through the honey island swamp. this time around, we’ll walk through the garden district, stop for meals, beers, and streetcar rides, and finish the visit up with bourbon, breakfast, and one last jackson square view. let’s go! on our first morning in town, i wanted to take in some regular new orleans street views. my husband wanted to shop and stop for several beers to recover from my fast pace. so we decided on magazine st., where retail, food, and pretty houses are plentiful throughout the central business and garden districts. heading out. surrey’s café and juice bar (1418 magazine st.) was our choice for breakfast because it’s highly recommended among locals on yelp. it’s cash only,

the corn crab chowder was 98% corn. while my food was served hot, my wife's was barely warm. the service was attentive but the descriptions clearly overstated the quality and taste...bland at best. i will not return.

my husband and i went to bourbon house for breakfast this morning and the service was poor given the grandeur of this place. our waitress was scarce and the waitress for nearby tables would come out with plates and say "who had the...?" the lady at the table next to us waited over 30 mins and her food never arrived. my husband took it upon himself to stop another waitress to help the lady at the next table. as we were leaving, the manager i presume, was letting her know they lost her ticket in the kitchen.

my husband ordered the bourbon house benedict, which was tasty, but the pulled pork bagel i ordered was dry and lacked flavor.

service was subpar. this was the first place in nola i ate. i had a reservation here with a large group. the service was very poor. it took forever to get our drinks and many of them were messed up. we had a drink server and a food server, as a former food and beverage worker i expected more out of this place, especially because of the price. besides the service the food was really good. great gumbo and the red fish was wonderful. not sure i'd go back because of the service

service was very good. gumbo soup was fair. bbq shrimp not what i was expecting - head on lg shrimp swimming in a soupy tasteless bbq sauce. a lot of work to eat as well. and no sides but a biscuit. i rather had charleston shrimp & grits. doubt ill be back to n o for several years. so don't worry about a repeat of this place.

service was super slow. ribeye was mediocre at best. seafood platter was terrible; greasy inedible hush puppies and dirty tasting catfish, also inedible. to all tourist, this is a bad representation of nawlins seafood. don't waste your time or money.
