i have tried boomstown coffee during my trip to the heights, coffee was average and little bit acidic, but the atmosphere was nice and the seating area is comfortable. i'm sure houston has better coffee options.

boomtown has proven to have longevity. the roasting is first class. and consider yourself lucky if they have some frshly roasted ethiopian tawo mok for you. one of the top five coffee shops in houston in my opinion. highly recommended.

i read reviews and a lot of people were complaining about the cigar smell being overwhelming. i smelled a hint, kind of like walking passed someone with a strong cologne/perfume but it wasn't bothersome. (i also was only there for 10 minutes and grew up around smokers). ordered coffee with a friend and a crossant (i know, basic). they were delicious! the set up work with the space they had and i liked out the outdoor area was outside to catch the breeze but felt like you were inside.

comfortable looking couches and chairs, but killer coffee.  great coffee.  lots of different methods, including various cold brew, press, and filter techniques done very well.  a good spot to walk in and out of, as well, when you're cruising downtown heights.

i went to boomtown coffee on an early sunday afternoon with my girlfriend.  we noticed that there was a big private parking lot across the street with some empty spaces; this is always a positive note for a houston business.  as we walked towards the coffee shop, we observed that there was an outdoor patio area with a bunch of tables and chairs.  unfortunately, as soon as i opened the front door, a blast of cigarette/cigar smell punched me in the face.  it's very noticeable.  their neighboring business, the heights cigar lounge, doesn't have a very effective ventilation system, and this definitely needs to be addressed.

this coffee shop is very spacious and has many chairs and tables to sit at.  free wi-fi is provided as well.  in the middle of the shop, there is a beautiful, giant blackboard with their coffee menu.  this is the best part about boomtown; there's a variety of quality coffee to choose from.  i went with the iced mayan mocha, and my girlfriend went with the chocolate toddy.  these drinks were delicious, but we had to escape the smell and drink them outside on the patio.  i would go with a 5-star rating, but i can't get ever how bad this place smells.

what to order:
-iced mayan mocha

pros:
-extensive coffee menu
-free wi-fi
-spacious with many tables to sit
-outdoor patio
-private parking lot across the street

cons:
-reeks of cigarette/cigar smoke from the neighboring business (heights cigar lounge)

not a special place, reeked of cigarette smoke and the coffee was sub-par, at best. won't return. my boyfriend and i decided to go here on a whim from a buzzfeed article saying it had great iced coffee-- buzzfeed, i don't know who your sources are, or where your tastebuds have been, but you need to upgrade.

this heights spot is a favorite pretty much any day of the week. whether for visits with friends, a quick coffee on the go, or working remotely for hours on end, we love the calming yet cool ambience of this place. if you're into coffee, baked goods, hot tea, yummy breakfast and just all-around happy vibes, check it out... and thank us. :)

ps, only downside is that sometimes it can be uber crowded and that's tough if you're coming in to work and focus. and there's also the occasional dude who has some serious bo.

i'm quite the coffee shop connoisseur in houston and this one of my faves! this place has so much personality with the local artist's work as decor and super friendly staff. it's also much bigger than it looks from the outside which is nice considering other coffee shops in houston are a bit of a tight squeeze. definitely fits in with that 'heights hipster' feel that is so well known.

the first time i tried them, the barista was rude, slow, and the worst chai tea ever. i thought i would try them again, and i got the same rude and slow coffee, as well as very average coffee. the hipsters that work there were more concerned with looking cool than working!

boomtown coffee house is a hidden gem in the middle of the shopping district on 19th street. or else not so hidden judging from the several dozen people that cycled through when we were there. but it was hidden from me until a few weeks ago and that’s all that really matters. how can i tell you about it if i don’t know it’s there?! well, we all know now and you can give me a big thank you after you go.

loved it!. great coffee, great atmosphere. what i really loved about this place was that there was a book shelf set up with small toys, books, etc which conveyed to me that everyone is welcome. when i visit houston, i will make it a point to visit boomtown.
