um, wow. this is the coolest sandwich shop ever. the menu is full of sophisticated sandwiches. (we get mommy and daddy sandwiches here and then take the kids for simpler fair elsewhere.) the bread is amazing and made right in the shop. they use there own starters (going for years) and so they only need a little yeast. the sides are a lot of fun and as tasty as the sandwiches.
it's a breath offreshair in a world full of subways and quiznos.

it was okay. i'll give it to you previous posters; the bread is great, freshand the meats are pretty decent too. but i found myself, halfway through my "venice" italian style sandwich with my jaw getting tired. i loved the good crisp ciabatta, but the chew to it nearly took me out. then, they've got good meats, mortadella, salami & proscuitto and i can't even taste them! they stack in some pickled banana pepper rings & the sandwich was thick with red onion. granted, it was a good sandwich for $8.50, but i had to go spend another $2 in gum just so i could go back to the office & talk to clients. i;m sure this place is one of your "treat yourself" every once in awhile type places but if i'm going out for a sandwich a week i'll stick to some of my other normal haunts in columbia.

excellent sandwiches. if you're tired of subway and panera and want something truly original, stop by this sandwhich shop and try just about anything on their menu - it's allfreshand really tasty. their sides at first surprised me; cous-cous and lentil salad instead of traditional fair like fries or chips, but wow is it good. the sides that come with the sandwich are very small, but the sandwiches are so big you won't walk away hungry. i recommend the picante chicken breast sandwich!

i'm a fan!. i actually was a fan of gerald's before he opened bon fresco, back when he had a deli on columbia gateway drive. my dad always talks about how amazing his sandwiches were then, and he's yet to visit bon fresco, but i'm sure he'd love it. the sandwiches are just perfect. i have no complaints! granted, i've only tried 2 sandwiches, and i often get the grilled vegetable platter (you get so much food, more than with a salad, and it's $8!!) but that's just because i don't want to stray from my favorites!! i'll definitely have to go more often than my once or twice a month, so that i can start trying other sandwiches. i also think the prices are very reasonable, especially when you compare it to panera or any other columbia chain restaurant. bon fresco isfreshand delicious, and i can't stop telling people about it!

fantastic!. only by pure chance did my wife and i find this place and further that we actually went in and tried it. the food isfreshand fabulous. since our first visit, we try to get out to bon fresco at least once a week. i first had the london broil and have never tasted a sandwich so unique and flavorful. we force ourselves to try new sandwiches because we swear the last one we had is our absolute favorite. and then then new sandwich we try becomes our favorite. each one i so different but so delicious. this places is a food oasis where the the taste experience is the best. love it and thanks for bucking the chain trend and creating such a wonderful product for us!

the best european-style bread in the u.s.. my wife, who is from spain, yearned for good european bread for a long time. by chance, we discovered this local sandwich/bakery right down the street in columbia, md that bakes the best bread that we've had in the u.s. so far. they do run out, but when we have the fortune of scoring on afreshbaguette, it really is phenom! i've encouraged them to enter in competitions... if they do, i'm sure they will win hands down.

the challah, available on fridays is also a contender for the blue ribbon.

their sandwiches are also great ... and the portions and quality is well-worth the $6.50. stick with subway if you prefer junk and foot-long crud.

my favorite restaurant. bon fresco is a little inconvenient to locate and has a name a and decor that at first struck me as some kind of off-brand panera bread. there my complaints end.

what you've actually got at bon fresco is a covert health food restaurant and a damn good sandwich shop that your heart will thank you for. its owners don't believe in mayonnaise, bacon, or beef for the most part, and that's a good thing.

sandwiches at bon fresco start withfreshbaked bread and either an olive tapenade or a sun dried tomato pesto as a condiment (with a few exceptions). then the sandwich is filled with salad greens and one of many delicious main ingredients (pork tenderloin, chicken breast, brie, tomatoes, salami, brie, hummus, brie). finally, the whole business is thrown back into the oven, where the bread gets even crispier and any cheese on it gets all melty and delicious. all that and a side of potato salad or couscous for $6.50 (drinks extra).

paradoxically, if you're hungry, the salads are a more filling option. for the same price as a sandwich, you can get a special topping (they change daily) like curry chicken salad, persian chicken salad, tuna salad, couscous, or chicken sweet potato salad on top of a generous bed of salad greens. the salads come with a giant piece offreshbaked ciabatta which altogether make for a very filling meal. the special toppings also don't seem to use mayonnaise as a binder, and if they actually do, it's the absolute bare minimum.

now despite all this praise, bon fresco might not be up your alley. you won't enjoy it if you're expecting special sauce or tons of meat to highlight the meal or if you don't like really crispy bread. portions here are reasonable and ingredients are balanced even at their biggest and as i said before, they don't believe in mayonnaise.

calling bon fresco an amazing health food restaurant would be the very definition of a backhanded compliment. this is an amazing restaurant, period, and it's also probably the healthiest restaurant i've ever been to (aside from a certain mediocre vegan place).

i'm going to come out an say it; this is my favorite restaurant ever. you should eat here if you're at all curious. especially if you work in columbia.

great. really good, very small eatery that bakes their own bread, the turkey isfreshcut and the corned beef was very lean, the lentils and feta is good and the potato salad is made with yogurt instead of mayo and is delicious...

bon appetit!. this cozy soup/sandwich/bakery is great! the owner is sweet as pie and is truly happy to serve you. i for one am happy to keep coming back for more. the breads arefreshbaked (using king arthur flour!) and are so tasty. i enjoyed thefreshhomemade soup (got a sample of the lentil - delicious, but went with the vegetable because it was less spicy and i had a sore throat - also delicious). dinner time was dead, so i wonder if folks don't know their open at night? they should get a web site, but thanks urban spoon for getting the info out!
plenty of seating is available for those who want to dine in. i didn't try afreshbaked goody, but a friend told me the chocolate croissant was excellent. rumor has it they are considering opening for breakfast in the future. i can't wait to go back.
