we have been wanting to try out this place for quite some time but unfortunately never really got around to it. when we heard that they were launching a new menu at this place, we were quite excited to try it out. as you walk in, you see a place with modern design and some great décor. they have both indoor and outdoor seating. although the place was a little small, it didn’t feel stuffy or cramped. the only drawback is that there will always be a crowd at this place due to its popularity in the city.
appetizers
to start our meal we ordered the aam papad paneer, chilli cheese kulchas, crispy suji bites, himalayan spiced mushroom and the rajputana murg soola kebab. the paneer was one of the highlights of the meal as the tangy flavours of the raw mango really shone through the entire dish. the kulchas were soft and cheesy which is exactly how we like it. with just the right amount of cheese stuffed into it, it was able to maintain a great balance which is not something we really expected from this dish.
the crispy suji bites were another highlight in our meal. we’ve never really had suji cooked in this way and it was certainly one of the more unique offerings we had at this place. we could not help but finish the entire dish because of how well it was made. the mushroom, unfortunately, was a disappointment as it was very undercooked and although it was seasoned well the tough mushrooms did not do justice to the flavours it was offering. with regard to the kebab, the chicken was succulent, well balanced with the right amount of shikaar spices (homemade ground spices).
main course
for the mains, we ordered the kumaon style greens with mandua roti and the chicken salli pao. the mandua roti was a bit dry but that’s how it’s supposed to be. it’s a very healthy option, especially when had with the kumaon style greens which were seasoned very well. with regard to the chicken salli pao, the chicken was tender but it’s supposed to be a little spicy and unfortunately, it was too sweet for our palate.
dessert
to end our meal we ordered the bombay ice cream sandwich and the bitter chocolate jaggery skillet. the ice cream sandwich was basically jim jam and bourbon which were stuffed with ice cream and served with a side of chocolate sauce. although it’s quite basic, it brings back a rush of memories with a wave of nostalgia. the jaggery skillet was not something we liked too much as the base was too hard and dry. the ice cream on top was the saving grace but it was too little to last for the entire skillet hence we felt this could be improved upon.
overall verdict
with fabulous interiors and a very good vibe, in general, we certainly had a good time at this place. they have some unique offerings along with the classics which means you have the option of sticking with what you know or going out and trying something new. this place would make a great date location because of how quaint and cosy it is, however it would also be great for a friday night dinner with friends but be warned to make a reservation well in advance because it fills up quite quickly. we certainly would recommend to try out this place at least once.
