i love the atmosphere, the waiters are great (and gorgeous, as a sidenote. if you want burly, bearded men to serve you your beer, look no further) thebeeris delicious, but as it so often happens when i visit boulder, i can't stand the clientele. i don't know what it is about boulder's college students, but they basically make me want to claw my eyes out, and they gravitate towards this place like a sad, drunk moth to a beer-burning flame. as great as the atmosphere is, you can't really appreciate it when it's crowded, and it's impossible to carry a conversation with the amount of noise surrounding you. overall, i'll likely go again, but this place won't ever be my first choice on a saturday night.

love it, aside the spacy waiter!. walked through the door...then a curtain (genius in colorado) to a high, open ceiling-ed but cozy, rich, warm, dark wooded, painted inside with family style seating and a bar. a pleasant escape from the blustery, blinding wind blown snow.
large menu full of german, austrian, and all those countries delicious, sausage-y fair. it was hard to make a decision, but luckily they offer "sampler" plates including charcuterie, pierogies, sausages, etc. we ended up with a sampler plate of sausage, pierogies, goulash, sauer & blau krauts, and... french fries. sausage was plain, nothing special, but had a great char to them. pierogies were potato and spinach. both were delicious, but boiled. i would have liked to see them finish with a pan fry with onions and garlic. blaukraut was super overcooked and a little sweet and bland for my taste; sauerkraut was also overcooked but had a good kick of caraway. fries were good - food service - aside from sitting in liquid and growing soggy towards the bottom of the nest. a couple paltry slices of awesome salty, doughy pretzel bread. (i knew i should have ordered the giant pretzel.) the star here was the goulash. i wish i had just ordered a huge bowl of that wonderfully paprika-d stew. yum!
decentbeerselection (which to me is if you have a local stout, i'm happy) and a full bar with a fancy hippy bar tender who probably would have rather shook up some wonky liquor drinks than poured a couple beers.
waiter was one of those hipsters with his tight short pants, suspenders, thread-bare facial strings, little fancy hat, and totally high off his gourd. sometimes i have to remember pot is legal in this state. he was nice and attentive though. and the owner is a real european dude, so that's cool.
