let me premise this review by saying how much i used to adore bo fung. for years bo fung was the only chinese restaurant i would order from. i used to recommend them to everyone. never again.
i placed an order for hot braised shrimp with fried rice add broccoli and a side order of crab rangoon for delivery. total came out to $22.58. the food arrived 15 minutes quicker than the estimated time they gave. i put on a movie and start eating. zoned out from work, i wasn’t paying much attention to the food, and after a couple bites realized they had given me hot braised chicken instead of shrimp.
i calmly call them back and let them know they messed up my order. i wasn’t upset they didn’t apologize, but i was a little taken aback when they told me not to worry they got my order wrong because they only charged me the price for what hot braised chicken costs. i explained that i’d prefer the food i ordered. they said it would be an additional $1.50 and i said that would be fine and then was hung up on.
they called back a few minutes later and asked if i could pick up my order rather than have it delivered. i laughed it off and agreed. i wouldn’t say bo fung is a far drive from my home in shaw neighborhood, but it’s definitely not close either. i had nothing else to do though so i hopped in the car and drove there to pick up my food. when i arrived they ask me where the food they delivered was. confused by the question, i said it was at my apartment. they tell me i cannot return the order they messed up unless i give them the messed up order first. i told them i had a couple bites and that it would be ridiculous to bring food back to a restaurant that i had just been eating. a man comes from the back and accuses me of eating the food from the mistake order, and proceeds to tell me normally people know they have the wrong food before they start eating it. i tell him at least 95% of the food is left. i eventually agree to drive all the way back to my place to grab the semi-eaten food.
i returned a half hour later with my nibbled on food and tell them i’ve lost my appetite and would like my money back instead. the man i had been talking to immediately pulls out a 10 dollar bill and 45 cents and hands it to me. i ask him what that was, and he said it was my refund money. i tell him i paid $22.58, it’s literally on the receipt attached to the bag. he tells me there was a delivery fee of $3. i explained that an additional $3 plus the $10.45 he gave me doesn’t come close to the $22. he keeps pointing at the menu telling me hot braised chicken costs $9.45. so i asked why my receipt says $22.58 then. he looks confused for a while, has a conversation with the woman in chinese for what seemed like an eternity, then tells me they charged extra for the broccoli and charged extra for the rice, and he hands me an additional $4 so i got $14.45 back, still $8 short but i was tired of arguing. i told him how much that sucks because they messed up my order last time too and i didn’t say anything because i liked the place so much, and i mentioned how i always recommend them, and obviously i never will again. with the $5 tip i gave to the delivery driver, and the not one but two trips i made for the food, i ended up losing about $13 to get no food.
