bar none - the best!. i think when you're willing to drive across the city to go somewhere for a meal, that's usually an indication of the quality of food/service you get.
let me first say that mexican food, or what's sadly passed here as mexican food, is not usually the first cuisine on my list of favourites, but i simply can't say enough about this amazing little gem.
the owner, "betty" makes everything from scratch, right before your eyes for the most part. the tortillas are pressed as needed, and cooked to order.
the vegetarian taco is excellent, as is the chicken (haven't tried the pork), but nothing holds a candle to the juicy, tasty, meaty goodness of the barbacoa (beef). all come with cilantro and white onions if you want them.
she has multiple salsas available, all homemade, and in varying degrees of heat. these are authentic! and be warned - even the medium can pack a punch (compared to most of the garbage served in the city).
the tamales are always a take-home item for us, and shouldn't be missed.
her horchata is also homemade (unlike the powdered versions served everywhere else).
i can't think of an instance where i've been to bmc and haven't had a "moment" with my food. it's so good, it could bring you to tears!
don't expect fancy here. think mexican street food served in a cantina type setting.
the decor is bright and fresh, and her kids are almost always there lending a hand.
seating is limited, maybe 16 people total? but take-out isn't really an option as the tacos would get too soggy even walking to the car.
definitely worth a try, and i'd say worth every penny, but at $5 for three tacos, it's almost robbery how cheap these good eats are!
