went toblacksmithcoffee shop on a sunday afternoon. was greeted with a cue of about 15 people lining up to order. after about ten minutes finally got to order! they give you a number to take to your table for them to bring the food to you but the coffee you have to wait at the counter for! so my girl friend waited at a table outside for the food while i waited inside for the coffee. the food actually arrived at the table about 5 min before i got the coffees at the counter. the food was ok but menu was pretty limited. the coffee was pretty good but we couldn't make out any difference between the flat white coffee and the cappuccino we ordered. overall if you got table service at this cafe i would rate it about 4.5 but the lack of service doesn't make up for there above average coffee.

blacksmith is a nice place to go to for a quick bite and coffee during the morning or afternoon. however, it closes at 5 pm, so don't think ofblacksmithas a good nighttime spot. they have a free private parking lot which is a huge plus for the montrose area. they also have outdoor patios if it gets too stuffy inside. they serve breakfast and lunch as well.

we ordered the latté ($4.00) and the vietnamese steak and eggs ($15.00) on a saturday afternoon. the place was packed, but we were able to find seating at the bar beside the cashier. the steak and eggs were good, but they really need to chill on the salt. the meal was served with a bun and small side salad, but i found it a bit overpriced at $15, especially since the meat was much too salty. we enjoyed the latté, it was creamy and they even did some latté art on it.

overall, blacksmithis a nice little coffee shop. i like that they have their own free private parking lot, outdoor patios, and that they serve good coffee. however, it closes at 5 pm, so it's not a place i'd frequently go.

blacksmith coffee shop located in houston's montrose district is one of my favorite craft coffee shops in houston. why?

the quality of the coffee is incredible. david buehner, blacksmith's owner and co-founder of greenway coffee company, believes in using quality, locally sourced ingredients. evenblacksmithcoffee beans are roasted at greenway coffee company. but what makes their coffee come to life is the latte art!

also, chef erin smith designed blacksmith's breakfast and lunch bites which are simply delicious. try their sausage, egg and cheese biscuit with the marmalade on the side or the kentucky hot brown sandwich. eat slowly to savour each bite!

from the exterior, blacksmithlooks a bit ordinary. however, when you walk inside, you feel the hip montrose vibe. blacksmith's exposed brick walls with pop art creates an inviting atmosphere to socialize with friends on the patio or connect with a date over a latte.

cost: latte + breakfast entrée= $18

notes: attentive and knowledgeable staff, popular on weekends (might have to wait in queue but it goes fast), limited seating, family friendly, great for couples and solo dining.

he loves breakfast sandwiches and so we looked for the best ones in houston and we found a place right in the heart of montrose:blacksmithon westheimer. it is a small cafe that serves breakfast all day, how much better does it get? it has plenty of parking in the back, a small patio on its side and their bathrooms were large and clean. the inside feels very casual, hip and young. there is music in the background and nice comfortable chairs. that saturday morning it was a mix of people, old and young.

i’m not talking about a soulless cup of coffee at starbucks, but a rich, extravagant cup of coffee at one of the many coffee houses that have sprung up all over houston. i realize that personal tastes vary, but for me, i don’t just want a great cup of coffee.  i want a pleasant environment as well.  not long ago my husband took me to a place that he and his cycling friends like.  although the coffee was very good (as was the gigantic chocolate scone we shared), the place was run down, and the furniture looked like beat up dorm furniture that had seen a fair amount of sexual activity.  the predominant style of dress was only a notch above pajamas.  so happy with his coffee, my husband exclaimed, “isn’t this great”  to which i replied, “no, it is not.  this is my worst nightmare — to be sitting around unemployed in the middle of the day in a t-shirt and gym shorts, on crappy furniture, surfing the internet for a job and having people snarl at me.”  here is a picture of the place (which shall remain nameless): i’m not trying to be a scrooge, it’s just that i’m looking for something different at this stage of my life.  so here, in no particular order, are 4 coffee houses that i really enjoy, with great coffee, a nice variety of sweet and savory items, and slick surroundings.  if you are feeling stressed by the holidays, take a coffee break and refresh at one of these places.blacksmithblacksmith is located at 1018 westheimer, in an industrial-looking brick building.

the next morning, i was intrigued by something called “the kentucky hot brown” atblacksmithcoffee bar. turned out it was a turkey sandwich on white bread with bacon, tomatoes and cheesy gravy. my picture was not as pretty as i had the gravy on the side when the sandwich was supposed to be swimming in the gravy.

go for a creamy mocha or an enlivening shot of espresso atblacksmithwhere there are always people working or social media-ing on their laptops. unlike most coffee shops, blacksmithalso offers a hearty breakfast and lunch menu. the crispy-bottomed tender biscuits are without peer, and when you get the sausage, cheese and egg rendition, it’s a great start to the day. note tha

another coffee shop i’ve been frequenting recently is the new blacksmith, which opened up on westheimer in montrose this january. the crew behindblacksmithis the same behind anvil, and beside the similarity in name, both are tirelessly dedicated to making great drinks.
