good place with a few quirks. ok...yes it is pricey. yes it is loud...very loud at times. yes it is in a retail strip. but the food is good as is the wine selection. steak was cooked perfectly and the service was good. great place to go for a night out with others when the noise factor is not an issue.

style and service. truly a great restuarant. service, food and drinks well worth it. can't wait to be back in town. my go to rochester restuarant. i have dined all over the country and the world and they can stand with anybody!

first of all, anyone who starts a review with "meh" is already suspect in my book. i also must question the motives of anyone given to fits of hitting the carcinogen button. this is a very good restaurant. it's worth a try as it's better than most in rochester. i've not been disappointed yet.

meh.. i could have could have cooked my husband's extremely overpriced steak. actually, i could have cooked my frozen lobster too. because there was absolutely nothing special about them.
well, maybe i could say what was special was the arm and a leg we paid for the confused wait staff and pretentious atmosphere. not even my manhattan was good.

loved it!!!. after reading some of the negative reviews i was a little skeptical about eating here. we decided to take the chance and i'm so glad we did. i made reservations( highly recommended) for a party of five for 6 pm on a wednesday (last night). the dining experience was fantastic!!!! we ordered the jumbo shrimp cocktails and the gluten free meatballs for appetizers. yummy! one of our guest eats a gluten free diet so we were happy to know they do offer gluten free items including a dessert.
everyone ordered steak. all i can say is....perfection!!! the service was flawless! yes it's pricey, but worth it!!! you get what you pay for. the orzo mac and cheese....divine! we will definitely go back many times!!!!

the steak was very good. cooked to the appropriate level.
the waiters interrupted a little bit more than expected. like every 4-5 minutes there’s someone asking you if everything is good. it’s a nice gesture, but too much.

that was a $65.00 theft on behalf on the ownership.

the only right thing is to return - eat a good portion of the meal and send it back to the kitchen.

it's fancy, and the food was great. the only thing was the wine wasn't so good and a bit expensive. i heard a lot about this place, it's good, attention was good, and the waitress was nice. i would come back

our 45 anniversay. we have celebrated our anniversary at black and blue since they opened.we have had wonderful experiences and a couple not so good .each year we try to go somewhere else but always decide this place .have we waited beyond our reservation time "yes"have the ladies at the front end appeared somewhat ditsy "yes"has the service been excellent yes. has the food been excellent yes?..do we feel our overall experience is great yes.just celebrated our 45th anniversary there .left very happy stuffed with the best steak .was it pricey yes but i've gone to other places where i can't say anything good about them and payed a lot of money will we go back next year yes look forward to a happy experience .thanks banab for making our anniversary a successful evening

noisy. this was our third experience. we made reservations days ahead. we were seated in first floor main dining. this area is very noisy. you cannot hear across the table but you can hear everything spoken by the person next table behind you because he is the closest to you. if you are going, insist on the mezzanine or booth seating away from the bar.
the food was very good but overpriced for value. the waiter was courteous and knowledgeable. the front desk and others were inexperienced. if you like vegetables, you may need to pay a significant add on.

good food, some pricey surprises.. i went today with two friends, and we spent over $250 - yikes! we had appetizers, steaks, drinks and dessert. the calamari appetizer was wonderful - and i don't even like calamari. my sirloin steak was done right and tender, and the cheese sauce was great. we tried different sides, most of which were tasty, except for the asparagus, which was a bit underdone. the desserts were also high quality, and the coffee as well. i can't complain about the food at all! the wait staff was friendly and helpful, willing to accomodate and knowledgeable about the menu. my biggest complaint is the price for some of the items. there were 'addons' - one of which was crab legs for $18 a pop...you read that right. i was expecting a snow crab for that price; what we got was one crab leg. for $18. that's rather criminal. prices in general were a bit steep, but for the most part within high end steak houses. still...$18 for a crab leg? several of the 'addons' were equally small in portions while large in price. so...overall, great food - just be careful what you order.

meeehhhhhhh.... i travel for work and usually avoid steak houses and this place is a shining example of why. bad service and i could buy a steak at wegmans and cook it better at home. way over priced for the crap cuts of meat.

very disappointed. my husband and i dinned at black & blue three times with the same result with each visit. the ditzy hostesses at the door are unorganized, forgetting who's on their list and letting others cut the list (i've been a hostess so i know the tricks). when you finally sit down after an extra long wait, the pretentious waiters act like you are just another number, like you're bothering them...they just want to be done with you. the food really is nothing special at all. we thought we just caught them on a bad day, but the bad service and attitude was consistent with all three visits so we just won't be back. don't waste your money or precious time...life is short.

incredible seafood. we have been here a lot and never had a bad experience. great appetizer menu, incredible and fresh selection of seafood, and the atmosphere is welcoming.
