food is worst here. please look for better options as food here will not satisfy you.

ambience is good butstaffwill keep you waiting. every order is super slow.

i tried pizza it was bad, paneer tikka is dipped in mustard oil, chicken tikka flavor is also bad and other dishes are also not up to the marks.

washroom facility is bad as well. it will stink like hell. please look for other options than this.

i am from rishikesh and this was my favourite restaurant until my last visit in november 2020. i understand that due to covid, thestaffhad changed but i hadn't seen the quality of a restaurant deteriorate so much. i had friends over and this was my go to place. on reaching there, i was insisted on taking the outdoor seating then the chair was broken. when i asked to replace it, the person in charge said other tables are reserved and if they change then they will face the problem then. somehow i managed to sit in that chair without taking the backrest, the waiter gave no attention to us for 10 minutes despite constantly asking for the menu. there is a candle light arrangement but they didn't light it only on our table. i was still sure food is going to be great but alas the food was totally bland. there was no salt and no flavours. when told, the waiter said that foreigners do not prefer much salt or spices. mind you, due to covid there has been hardly any foreigners in rishikesh for past 8 months. then we ordered a pasta at last with specific instructions on the spices but it never came even after 20 minutes and we paid and left. it was the most horrible visit and nobody enjoyed.

the place is really beautiful, ambience is lovely. food is average for the kind of popularity it has. thestaffis fun and the area in which the place is located is really nice. it's like a hippie village in the mountains. i tried house burger and banoffee pie - both the items were very average.

bistro nirvana came highly recommended by a friend i met in dharamsala, but i only had a coffee there until the day before i left because i did not like the “vibe”. it is a very nice place with bamboo, wood tones, and a polynesian feel, but all but one table is of the “eastern” variety with low tops, seating mats, and a little too uncomfortable for this disabled veteran.

the young “bohemian” / hippie-wannabe crowd is drawn to this place, the ones with the dreadlocks (not sure why caucasians want to waste their time or money on dreadlocks, but whatever floats your boat) and nose-in-the-phone silence, just like in dharamsala, so that also put me off a bit. thestaffis friendly, but indifferent just like everywhere else in rishikesh in general and the swiss cottage complex in pariticular.

anyway, the food was really good! i ordered the dal makhni (130 rupees/$2.05), black lentils slow cooked overnight with garlic, onions, butter, and crème and a garlic and butter nan (50 rupees/80 cents). the dal were superb, arriving in a good size copper pot, perfectly warm and the best $2 i have spent in a long time at a restaurant. the nan was also very good, not looking enough to get me through my dal at first, but there was more than met the eye and i was satiated … after a piece of their legendary banoffee pie (60 rupees/$.95) of course. the pie was rich and sweet, tasty with banana cream and toffee (caramel) atop a thick, chewy biscuit (cookie) crust, being almost too rich, but i polished it off just the same.

combatcritic gives bistro nirvana 7 bombs out of 10 … one bomb deduction for low tables and too many dreadlocks … bombs are great!

we came here on an all girls trip and this place simply blew us away. tired from a long road journey, this cozy, green restaurant tucked away in a paradise place proved to be a warm, comfortable haven for our tired minds and bodies as well as an epicurean delight.

decorated with colourful cushions and mattresses where you can lie down as well as cute tables and sofas where one can lounge and eat at the same time, this place has a hippie, trendy but fresh vibe. the service was a little slow, especially as there were so many of us but overall it was very hospitable.

we ordered a variety of food and drinks and shared them all. each and every dish was excellent in flavour, display and conception. we particularly relished the yummy lemonade, basil slush, pizza, sizzler, banoffee pie and mexican fried rolls. the momos were ok. we slept here for 2 hours and enjoyed the leisurely afternoon. there were also books to read and thestaffwas very welcoming.

the prices were really cheap especially given the amazing experience we had here. i would love to come back here again and again. this is my go-to-nirvana in rishikesh. so what's stopping you?
