big daddy's rest cafe

great service and real new orleans selections but not well prepared. it's a taste if the big easy in the middle if long island. my pulled pork po' boy was not great, and i didn't get sauce until 10 minutes in. i asked for the cole slaw on the side so my fault? the other person i was with got fried chicken. good, not great. fun but maybe a bad night?

great night out. food was delicious - as another blogger stated it was not exactly new orleans but close enough without being in the big easy. my stuffed catfish with rice was flavorful, moist and delicious and the portion was big enough for 2 meals. his bbq platter (of course) was also huge and delicious. even the brick pressed chicken, an item that i am not usually fond of, was excellent. the skin was nicely crispy while the meat was tender and juicy.

the drinks and the bar were hopping. i had some special black cherry lemonade with bourbon. it was strong and not too sweet. service was pleasant and quick. our questions were answered patiently and with knowledge.

this is clearly a popular local spot. people didn't even blink when they were told there is an hour long wait for a table but rather headed to the bar and waited. i will definitely return, perhaps to try the jazz brunch which sounds appetizing and fun.

from the second you walk in the door, you're immediately transported away from long island. the lighting is dim and the walls are covered in vintage new orleans concert posters and photos of jazz musicians.

portions are huge! this makes the price worth it for sure. food has been consistent (although not the best cajun food i've had, definitely the best on long island so far!) and the cocktails are good as well. give it a shot!

can't say enough good things about it! the drinks are awesome!!! the sangria is my favorite! the food is simply delicious! i have never had a bad thing there. you can totally count on waiting...but it's totally worth it...grab a seat at the bar and have a great drink!

simply awesome! ordered a traducken for thanksgiving and it was fantastic! ate lunch a couple of times and always good.

going now. this made me hungry for some serious spicy food - thanks for good reviews was looking for a place just like this.

all things considered i'm placing big daddy's in the middle of the pack among long island bbq restaurants.

i really enjoyed the food and atmosphere everything was really delicious if you like spicy this is your place. the only part i didnt enjoy was dealing with bartender he was a total tool but other than that the staff was great i will be back

nola in li. just recently back from nola, i was in the mood for some cajun food found the restaurant on urbanspoon. i went for a sit down lunch had a shrimp po' boy. it was good and hot, can't wait to go back for dinner, the menu changes every night so check out the website before you go.

i s. this place is soooo great! the drinks are great. the service is great. on the weekend, you can count on a wait for dinner. but wait is sooo worth it. they have different stuff on the menu every night though they have a bunch of standards (i.e. ribs, burgers, some deserts, etc). the ribs are always incredible. the creole jambalaya is my favorite. the gumbo is always great no matter what's in it. you almost can't wrong with anything on the menu...as long as you like your food spicy =) oh, and the jalapeno tasso cheddar grits are amazing. you must try them when you go.
