bennidito's pizza

decent pie. i've been to b's three or four times. i am from upstate new york and with all of my brothers worked at different pizza joints. i can say as an east coaster the pizza is definitely good, not great but better than your average west coast pizza. the service on the other hand isn't great. for a neighborhood establishment they should shine with a sort of local down home feel. but rather it feels like the staff is slightly annoyed by ones presence and especially by questioning of any sort.

i will continue to eat pizza here but will have no loyalty to this attempt at a quality local pizzeria.

your kidding me right!!!!. benniditio's is loved by the spokane crowd; they even won the inlander's best pizza award this year. so we decided that we would stroll around manito park and then try them out for a casual pizza dinner.

we started off with the much raved about beer buddies - plain pizza dough cut into small bite-sized sections, brushed with butter (i was told it was olive oil, but we all agreed that it was butter, there were butter fat solids plainly vissible) and topped with commercial parmesan cheese (think kraft in a can cheese). the concept is good; but the dough, the highlight of the appetizer was tasteless. we had 2 hungry teenagers and two adults present when this appetizer arrived, it did not get finished, we each ate about 1 or 2 and kind of shrugged our shoulders. the only flavor outside of fat, and salt from the commercial cheese came from the sauces. we figured they were called beer buddies because after about 5 beers you just don't care what you eat.

for dinner we had one salad two medium pizzas, one calzone and a salad.

we will start off with the extreme culinary disaster - the calzone was the worst calzone everyone at the table had ever had. that's bad. it was made horribly and looked terrible, overcooked crust, paper thin on the top while soggy and undercooked on the bottom. the appearance of it was a turnoff, but looks can be deceiving. in this case though, they weren't. the flavors inside were just off, we all tried one bite and we all pushed it to the back of the table - yuck.

the pizza that i and the oldest teenager were eagerly awaiting for was the benniditos original pesto. i am a pesto fanatic, many times just eating my home-made pesto on crackers for a snack. ever have basil ice cream - yum i love it. i make pesto pizzas all the time at home, pure delight. but what arrived at our table resembled more like the exxon valdez oil tanker disaster. my wife's comment was "that's sick, you guys aren't going to eat that are you?"

the pesto they used appeared to be mostly oil so the whole pie was covered in a layer of unappetizing green olive oil, when we removed the first slice it was like breaking a dam. the oil came cascading off the pizza to fill the now vacant slice area. it took about 12-15 napkins to soak up half the oil but the damage had been done because the bottom of the pizza crust had soaked up the other half.

the excessive oil had ruined this pie, it wasn't finished by us, you could only take 1 or 2 slices of this heart attack on a plate pie, however it had potential, i liked the addition of the ricotta cheese on it although nobody could pick out the flavor of fontina, i think the oil and pest overpowered it.

the only pizza that got devoured was the mowie wowie, in this case the fontina cheese was very prevalent and a great addition, i also make my hawaiian style pizza with prosciutto, the saltiness of the ham compliments the sweetness of the pineapple very well. the only problem with this pizza was the tasteless dough that had a large amount of raw flour caked onto the bottom. when we were there all pizzas were rolled and but not hand tossed. hand tossing helps to knock off any excess flour, then the oven floor should be dusted with cornmeal to prevent sticking in the oven, there was no cornmeal evident on our pizzas, hence why they use the flour, but that is wrong.

the highlight of the meal was the salad, which was a good size and value for the money. lots of fresh greens and toppings and they did have a nice selection of beer on tap. and a special shout out does go to the server there, they were very busy while we were there and she was handling the whole restaurant by herself and doing a great job.

in the end we left with an uneaten calzone, some beer buddies and half of a medium pesto pizza, we stopped by an ice cream store for dessert and when we got home the boys cooked themselves some more dinner.

the moral of the story is, if pizza and calzones go uneaten by teenagers you know you have problems.

ps if you ever find you self up on the north side and hankering for some pizza, try fat daddy's, the best pizza in spokane.

used to love it; i've given up.. when we moved to spokane about 7 years ago, we were so happy to discover a locally owned neighborhood pizza joint with a great atmosphere and good beer on tap that we can ride our bikes to. we've eaten there or ordered take-out at least once a week for the past 7 years.

the pizza can be really great, but if you get it delivered, check it before the driver leaves because chances are good your order will be wrong. on more than one occassion my order has been lost entirely. the breadsticks are almost alwasy doughy and uncooked inside. last time we were there our pizza was almost inedible: the toppings (same pizza we always order) were just weird tasting; they must've changed to a cheaper brand of canned ingredients. blech.

other people complain about the service but honestly, that's about the only reason we keep going. chelsea is wonderful and so is the blond gal. in my experience, the servers bust their a**es.

i want to love and support benneditos, i really do. but they are just way, way too inconsistent. i can't keep pouring my money into this business hoping it gets better. we're switching to south perry pizza.

the pizza is consistently good. we've often been there in the past when the sevice was ridiculously slow, but not this time. friendly and fast service. i know there are a lot of complaints in the reviews about service, so maybe they're listening and improving. i commend them if that is the case.

this place is 'phat'. i ordered 2 calzones from here one day. they were delicious. when i ordered on the phone i told the man that i wanted them to be 'big and fat' calzones. he told me 'no problem man'. when i got the calzones they had used a fork to poke the word 'phat' in the dough. that is funny. the food is very, very good. i like the calzones better than the pizza though.

best pizza in the inland northwest. oh bennidiot's never disappoints. they have the best pizza in spokane offering great locations and great atmosphere. they offer up a great menu using fresh and local indgredients. i am stuck on their margarita pizza but have tried others and they didn't disappoint. order the beer buddies with a side of pesto ranch and some delicious beer to wash it all down. whether eaten there or carry they do not disappoint. best pizza in town hands down. it feels like you're eating in portland.

some of spokane's best...so far. i don't know if i can firmly state that their pizza is numero uno in the local area, because there are a lot of pizza joints to hit before i annoint anyone. i liked their pie. sauce was great, toppings fresh, a crust thin & chewy, and decent prices. i really liked that their large is 19 inches. small, but forgivable, complaint is while the pie is 19", the cheese and toppings were about at the 17" mark. no matter, because i'm not a crust guy anyway. but you might be. i liked the feel of the place, and the fellas there were helpful when needed. i'd certainly go back, but have a few places to hit before then...

this used to be great pizza but the quality has gone down significantly the last couple of years. very inconsistent product. decent watering hole with good beer selection and poor service.

i would go back but.... my husband and i went there last night and had calzones and breadsticks. the calzones were great and had it not been for half raw breadsticks it would have been perfect.

we love this pizza joint, we tend to order ahead as it gets busy and loud, think college pizza place. ordering to take out has been the best way for us really. all in all the best pizza pie in spokane.

love the pizza. we really enjoy the pizza and the salads. the others are right about the slow service though. i think they are so popular that they should be able to add to staff and make sure people truly enjoy the experience.
