interesting!. so, i'm not a fan of raw meat... not one bit. so, when i saw the piles of raw meat staring at me from the buffet, i was not too excited. but, once you get past the whole "i might cross contaminate myself or someone else" mentality, this place fares pretty well.

basically, this place has meats, veggies, spices, andsaucesand you take them up to a huge grill with men and boys alike waiting to grill up your creations and maybe make you smile...

if you aren't too keen on cooking, good luck with mixing the ingredients. pokey had to help this girl out... i agree with the others... use the guides, it helps a lot!

a sunday or so ago, current husband and i trekked out to independence for a chance to create our own bowl at bd’s mongolian barbeque. there’s also one in overland park, but i was determined to go east because i’d heard about their enormous beer selection – good enough reason to go, said my obliging hubby. first the food – there’s lots of it, you get to choose what you want, and it’s all quite tasty. there are a couple of different price points, depending on just how hungry you are, and you can eat it there of course, take it to go, or eat it there and take it to go all very, very reasonably. i think big eaters really like it here. once you’ve filled your bowl(s) with meats and /or fish (surimi aka krab, mussels, shrimp, calamari), vegetables of all varieties, and more other stuff than i can remember, you create your sauce (there’s recipes on the walls for the challenged) from a huge variety of oils, saucesand spices, and take it all over to the grill where a young man (that’s all i saw anyway) entertainingly with huge, long, sword- like metal spatulas (for lack of a better term) cooks your food on a 600° grill – in about three minutes it seemed to me, but i didn’t time it. i know that’s a pretty packed sentence – but it reflects those bowls. you take it back to your table and chow down. your rice or noodles are waiting for you.oh, there’s also appetizers, salads, sides and desserts. the picture includes a huge-ish bowl of fried rice but we wer

a place where you choose what you want and how you want. grab a bowl and your adventure begins. you can start filling it up with your choice of noodles, veggies and meat, add an egg to it if u like. choose from a variety of sauces- super hot to mild, you can mix up thesaucesto suit your taste buds. take it to grill and let the chefs do their thing.

if you have a small stomach like me and can't eat for more than one sitting. you have the option of going for one trip which will cost you less.

if you try mongolian use the cheat sheets. i've been to several mongolian bbq's : ann arbor mi, lawrence ks, olathe ks , spokane wa and maybe a few others. the best one was in spokane where there was fresh salmon on the mongolian. it was magnificent mongolian bbq.. the taste, flavor , freshness superb. what i found in that one and this one, there are cards and recipes that give you instruction and guidance concerning what ingredients, saucesand condiments go better with certain foods (chicken, beef, seafood etc) and what go best according to your tests. like in spokane and here, there are guides which i find help you taste the food and make for better mongolian fare. without that you have a mishmash of flavors that don't meld. if they don't integrate well it means your meal does not taste as good as it would be. in both this kc place and spokane everything was fresh and had the guidance of what condiments to add. while i love to cook and make my own recipes, i found these mongolian's the best i have visited. it might be why this place is packed quite often. it does have a good location but it is possibly the extra touch that brings out the best in the food. if you see a chinese restaurants without the "cheat sheets" you might be a little disappointed. but at this place (and spokane) they were mighty tasty. try it but use the cheat sheets!
