just home from bar soba byres rd,wednesday night...thought we would check out the latest trendy addition to the street. cocktails outstanding, bar staff more than competent however sorely dissapointed with the food, attracted by the 2 for 1 student offer,we ordered thai green chicken curry and chicken katsui curry in anticipation that it would be asgoodas if not better than there japanese contenders ( wagammas)the thai curry was standard but the katsui curry absolutely nothing the way it should be,overdone chicken, too much sticky rice, very bitter tasteless sauce, overall disaster, sad to see a new business join the hype of byres road and being so disappointing. 42 pounds down for a meal deal on a wednesday, will not be back......

visited here on a very sunny day so we sat outside, the seating was comfortable and there was a nice atmosphere.
had the soba sharing platter between two of us, it was very good, the prawn lollipops were especially good. we then had nasi goreng and japanese katsu curry which we were both very satisfied with. got agoodprice on the main meals as they had a student deal on main dishes.
to drink we tried a couple of the cocktails; my boyfriend had an umbongo and i asked for the pineapple and basilito. they didn't have any basil in at the time so the bartender made me up a pinapplito instead...it was still very nice.
service was fine, it seemed a queue kept building up at the bar but this is to be expected with one bartender on and a very long cocktail list.

bar soba is probably my favourite restaurant in glasgow in terms of  the atmosphere - lively yet relaxed, withgoodmusic, and great decor. the staff has always been helpful and friendly. their presentation is fantastic, and the food seems fresh - it certainly tastes great, though it is quite greasy at times.

the extensive cocktail menu has something in there for everyone. what i find interesting is their varied takes on the bloody mary's that compliment their sunday brunch menu.

overall, the food is good, but their service is often slow. not the best asian food, but definitely a great bar!

the best part though is the 2:1 on mains for students, on weekdays! -so worth it!

we walked into the very cool looking restaurant – graffiti anime on the corrugated metallic walls, wooden bench tables and fresh flowers on the bar. it was very bright and, well, cool. we took a seat and had agoodlook over the menu. there is a huge variety to choose from, and there are also great lunch deals to let you explore the menu without it costing a bomb! starters asian dumplings these were sogood– coriander is one of my favourite tastes, ever, and asian cooking is right up my street as they use it fresh in a lot of di

quite liked this place when it opened. we never went back though due the the high amount of negative reviews appearing all over. but you should always check yourself! we went back tonight to judge for ourselves. sorry to say the food was pretty awful. well, that's not fair, starters were nice. tempura batter perfect. my main wasn'tgoodat all. we settled up and ate elsewhere. disappointing.

i love this place. great food (i can highly recommend the nasi goreng,) and agoodatmosphere, all helped along by a cracking house red wine. only problem i have is deciding what to have next time! excellent value for money - a welcome addition to the west end.

i'm actually in the place writing this review since i had so much time whilst waiting for food and drinks. so far 25min for drinks (i had to ask for them), food is approaching 40-45 min. the people behind us had been in longer but had drinks an were still waiting for food. the female waitress is slow, lacklustre, and just not interested in working. blonde guy at bar i just posing and looking smug whilst looking in the mirror fixin his hair. now been 50min and just got starters. there hot sogoodstart. tempura looks nothing like tempura. samosas are nice though. side salad is poor though and is warm. dipping sauce has been watered down. bring in the main course... before bedtime hopefully. it not even busy as people are mainly drinking. hallelujah! main course came 5min after starter. singapore noodles : 5/10 small portion, huge raw spring onion, bit taste was okay. lack of beef. pork miso ramen : 4/10 hardly any noodles and lacking pork. plenty of mushroom. definitely a scottish take on japanese. overall you only need to walk 5min to go to udon gt western rd or ichiban on dumbarton rd to get more for your money, better service and better food that is guaranteed to be more authentic asian.
