a better deal is a restaurant on bay street, b matthew’s eatery. it is respected, winning or placing in best breakfast awards pretty routinely. those of us who have seen a bistro or two will be immediately familiar with the layout and find it something of a mainstay for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

concierge at our hotel sent us here. long wait for food that wasn't great. my burger was cooked to oblivion despite having asked for medium and the ranch dressing tasted like water with some dill mixed in. our waiter was pretty attentive and kept our drinks refilled during our lengthy wait. but the food just wasn't worth it.

nice people and good food at what are really quite reasonable prices. i'm no foodie but to me the dishes appear imaginative without becoming silly, so there's usually something new to try as well as something familiar to enjoy.
great though not obtrusive music from the resident musicians grapelli and reinhardt ;) - again i'm no expert but really, these guys surely know their stuff and it appears that some customers, at least, come as fans. tip jar is clearly visible, so bring a few loose notes.

the food here is unique...so don't go here if your idea of eating outside the box is applebee's. that being said, i am sure you do want something different. otherwise you wouldn't be browsing urbanspoon :-) the breakfast is delicious! fresh ingredients and not greasy. lunch is delicious as well. i got the ham, brie, and blueberry melt, my mom got the chicken salad sandwich, my sister got the fried green tomato sandwich (which i probably wouldn't order again for the fact that it only had 3 tiny tomatoes and i ended up peeling away half my bread away to get to them), my fiancé took the late breakfast option (which is a nice option to have when you wake up a wee bit too late and everyone else in your group wants lunch), and my brother got a salad with grilled chicken that looked amazing!

i will say that today they were quite disorganized. prior to seating us they informed us that the transition between breakfast and lunch wasn't going smoothly and that, even though it was 11:30 and lunch was supposed to start at 11:00, they wouldn't be able to put our order in for another 20 minutes. also, they didn't have a soup of the day or the curry chicken sandwich. plus, my sisters meal came out a good 10 min after everyone else's. i can't say that this is the norm, since i'm not from here and this is only the second time i've eaten here, but it's not enough to knock them off my favorites list yet ;-)

brunch was incredible - mayme's omelette (light and fluffy) and crab benny, so delicious. coffee was freshly ground from local roaster. recommend reservations, especially for brunch. typical wait is over 20 minutes.

my scramble may not have looked pretty, but it was incredible. i’d never had hollandaise sauce on anything other than eggs benedict. this is definitely another great way to enjoy it mixed in with the bacon, potatoes, and scrambled egg. on top of that, everything was perfectly cooked, nothing ruins a breakfast more than underdone bacon, overcooked potatoes, or rubbery eggs. heather’s biscuits and gravy turned out excellent, the biscuit was more of a buttery/crumbly biscuit as opposed to maple street’s flakey goodness, and their gravy was much meatier and had a bit less of a kick to it. it would be a hard call to declare a victor, because they were both tasty in different ways.

brunch in savannah's oldest tavern. due to the enormously long wait and crowd standing outside, we knew this was a hit. unfortunately, we did not have reservations or else we would've been seated pretty quickly at one of the 7 of 12 empty tables that were being held for missed reservations. alas, we were patient and waited and we are so glad we did. the meal was magnificent. fresh ingredients, nothing processed or packaged. the waitstaff apologized which spoke volumes. i recommend b matthews for every meal any day of the week.

i loved the blueberry brie sandwich. i substituted turkey for the ham. it was delicious! the server didn't seem too excited to be there though and it certainly showed. :/

i ordered the shrimp an scallop burger with a side salad. the burger was really good the best way to describe it was a crab cake between a bun. it had a lot of flavor and i would eat it again.

the $14 goose martini was served 1/2 full. the fish and chips were good, pricy, but good. the hangar steak was cooked properly, but served cold, poor service maybe?

if you are going to opt for the fat, calories and cholesterol of mac n cheese, at least take the time to bake the top and not just ladle it out of a warming tray. even worse adulterate it by sneaking in over cooked cauliflower. that might be good for a three year old who won’t eat their veggies.

the restroom was small, dirty and somewhat stinky.

people seem to love the place but i wasn’t to impressed with the menu. clientele seemed a bit snobby and they stared with judgement. i didn’t get the memo you had to wear gucci loafers to breakfast. great location and service was great.

love that it is dog friendly. nice small draft list. food is good not great. nothing blew me away and we had about 8 different things. well to be honest one thing was pretty great and it was the butter they had for the bread. super tasty.

lucky us! no wait! southwestern omelette was a perfectly cooked protein breakfast: black beans, onions, bell pepper, tomatoes. they were happy to accommodate a request for a traditional eggs benedict over the menu choice of crab cake benedict. the jalapeño hollandaise was a nice twist and added just a bit of spice/heat. sausage gravy biscuit is hearty and loaded with sausage. in my opinion, no restaurant is worth waiting an hour or more. so i won't be visiting here at peak time. sign me sav local yocal.

the wait was quite long on a saturday morning. the food and service was average at best. some of the food came out cold when it was supposed to be hot.
