one of the nicest indian restaurants i've been to in the bay area. authentic north indian food starting from appetizers, main course and the desserts. their paneer tikka is a must try. so is their navaratan korma. the service is tardy though, else this deserves all 5 stars.

heard a lot about this place so thought of trying lunch here as it was very near to my office. it's not worth the money, it's a thaali-meal system here but the quality, quantity and taste do not justify the prices. the food was way too spicy for a normal person and very rude staff.

very average and very ordinary value for money. they seemed extremely tentative in their service too.

portions are tiny. for 40+ usd for two people there are much better indian places along el camino.

if you like lots of whole garam masala in your plate  anjappar is right stop for you,  service is ok but food is good .. try mutton dosa, idli and rava dosa is very testy .. but don't hope for biryani here i don't like it and sambar they provide is very less just like chutney. overall ok for some time.

if you love hot and spicy food, anjappar chettinad is the place to go. i visited the restaurant a couple of days back with friends and all of us loved it. although we had to wait for almost half an hour before we got a table, the food made up for it. but the service was a little disappointing. reminded me of the typical udupi restaurants back in india, where the servers are always in such great hurry and not too attentive.

we started with a masala dosa and the vegetable kothu parottas. the dosa was crisp and the filling was just perfect. the different chutneys and sambhar that it was served with were also pretty good. the kothu parotta was not what we expected (since none of us had tried chettinad food in the past) but delicious nevertheless. it is supposed to be a very famous street dish in south india. it's basically minced parottas cooked with veggies & spices and i enjoyed every spoon of it.

next came in the main course. the chettinad vegetable kurma was similar to the normal veg. korma but the chettinad masala is what made the difference and added that extra flavor. although it wasn't as spicy as i expected it to be. but what was spicy, was their poondu kuzhambu. its cloves of garlic cooked in an amazing curry made up of some really complex flavors. the rotis were soft and fresh too.

the veg. biryani was not the usual biryani either, i guess they used some unique spices of chettinadu to prepare this one. and it went very well with the raita served on the side.
we wrapped up our meal with a round of filter coffee and it was just the perfect end to our meal. the coffee was brilliant and one of the best i've had in the bay area.

i'm glad i visited and would definitely go back to satiate my spicy food cravings.

this place was okay, but to be fair, we did order more north-indian style dishes here and maybe that's why we thought it was okay. i do love their spice levels though.

twice now, anjappar has come to my rescue. not being used to digest burgers and pizzas on such frequent basis, my tummy was aching for some rice. right then, anjappar was like a single breath of fresh air for me.

an egg biriyani at both times, for 9$ it serves a decent portion. however, the food quality was below the par that it sets in india. the rice was dry and looked reheated. curd raita was the saving grace. my friends ordered the "aapam with coconut milk" and a "fish biryani". while the aapam was decent, fish biryani was the same as the egg. the chicken 65 was downright sad. it was dry and looked like frozen food, not fresh at all.

nevertheless, i wouldn't mind heading back to the place unless i find better alternatives.

the quality of experience at any restaurant goes beyond just the food. it also includes the service, the ambiance, the other diners & the prices. that is why i think anjappar deserves no better than 1.5 rating.

but first the food. we came here during a weekday lunch & ordered 4 different "business meals" - 2 vegetarian & 2 non-vegetarian. the vegetarian meals were good, but not great. the garlic curry was the saving grace for both of them. non vegetarian was slightly better, but i felt it was more of raw spiciness rather than true taste.

now the other aspects of the experience. the ambiance is spartan & messy, like many of the low-end indian chain restaurants. but the behavior of the staff is just plain awful! we were made to wait 45 minutes for 4 business meals, which i'd always thought was the quickest item on a menu since there's less of cooking and more of clubbing items that are already in stock. but despite that the servers' responses to our queries on the status were more along the lines of "we couldn't care less about you. if you want, there are places around". but just as we were about to get up & leave they managed to clobber together our meals. and after that their response got even colder. towards the end the guy who gave us the bill was almost like "why don't you just get up & leave? we have people to serve". just a pathetic experience.

all said, i certainly don't understand the 3.8 rating this place holds currently, even if it were just for the food. nothing here is worth a second visit.

good place for tasty chettinad and very spicy food. place is always crowded with south indians and seating is very tight.i tried their mutton thali along with chettinad chicken masala, food was very spicy , tasty and oily. i had to drink liters of water and butter milk, though not good, to overcome the spiciness.

i'd definitely go again to this place and try their huge menu. better go with a south indian friend who can help you with the menu.

pathetic excuse for a restaurant. yuk! it was the most unpleasant experience at anjappar chettinad in bellevue, wa. the entire staff was either rude or indifferent. the food was cold and the choice of music was pathetic. the lighting was so dim, probably to hide the sorry excuse for the food. the decor didn't match up to any standard diner.

what a waste of time on a friday evening when there were so many other choices :(
summary - i'll stay a mile away from the place.

anjappar is a chain that originated in chennai and aims to bring you the cuisine of the chettiars from chettinad, in tamil nadu. well, times have changed and so must have the cuisine of the chettiars, for the menu is extensive and includes chinese-indian noodle dishes. it was one of the longest menus that i have seen and leaves no stone unturned. i had a vegetarian thali—a combination of various curries, dal, sambar, rasam, rice, roti, and a few limpid papads. the food was too spicy for my tastes, but this is the norm with this type of cuisine so one has to accept this going in. south indian 2 meter coffee was authentic. the ambience was authentic, i could almost imagine a guy riding in his 2 seater bajaj vespa scooter with his wife on the pillion, helmet in hand. but those were the old days--i doubt anyone does that even in india anymore.

quality deteriorates .. not worth anymore ... was there new year day, had kothu parrota. it was horrible preparation for the price tag of $7.99 and i'm fine with the quantity but the quality is worst so far. was used to be regular, but decided not to visit this place any more. it is not worth as the quality deteriorates day by day.
