...we looked at the restaurant map for the april edition of the   eater 38 essential atlanta restaurants and the first one on the list was ammazza, a neapolitan-style pizza joint.  it would open in 10 minutes (at 5pm daily) and was a 9 minute walk away from our current location - sold! ... the environment is very relaxed...now on to the main event, the pizza, which is cooked in a 900-degree wood fire oven.  these pie-makers take pride in their pizza making. the dough is homemade and is left to rise for 3 days...

visited this restaurant on a friday night and it was jammin'. the restaurant has an industrial chic feel with stainless steel tables and edison bulb lights. the line was extremely long. we probably waited at least 30 minutes just to order. this was kind of a buzz-kill, and it felt like the restaurant was ill-prepared for being busy. we ordered two pizzas, a bottle of wine, and an appetizer. all of the food was amazing. the ingredients in all the dishes were extremely fresh and tantalizing. the pizza was some of the best pizza i have ever had. will definitely return, but probably on a week-night.

located away from the hustle of the main strip of edgewood is a gem of a pizza joint. it looks to be in a old warehouse and screams a upper class pizza restaurant but this isn't the case and that isn't a bad thing. you order at the front counter or the large bar at the back. they have a great draft and beer list to start and a solid salad selection. the pizza is very good and is a italian style offering but what really shines is the pizza fritta. these are stuff with various toppings like a calzone but a monster size (enough for two people to share) and its twisted close then deep fried. this thing is amazing and is served with a huge bowl of sauce. so if you want to skip the line for antico drop by this place and you will be satisfied.

the pizza was really good and the place has a very lighted and cheerful ambience. the process of seating arrangement could have been smoother. overall, a recommendable place for a casual hangout with a good selection of beer.

we checked this place out (recently voted best pizzain atl) before hitting up a concert at the tabernacle. we were definitely pleased with the quality of the pizza and of course enjoyed the wood burning stove method utilized here. the meat is sourced locally, and the crust has a unique, almost sourdough flavor that is wonderful. there are several combinations to choose from as well. the pizza is of the thin variety and the 12" works well for up to two adults with a moderate appetite. the cinnamon donut dessert is quite tasty. as far as the restaurant, you order and pay as soon as you walk in. there are both individual tables, as well as community tables. water is self serve, as well as cutlery, plates, and napkins. they have a large selection of craft beer, too. considering its location, i can understand the prices, but i would still say that it is a bit overpriced.

great pizza, great service, pretty and inviting atmosphere, in an awesome part of town. not quite neapolitian style pizza but still delicious and worth a trip.

vegan pizza. so i had the pleasure of dining here last night with two good friends. we arrived at around 6 pm and there was no line or wait. we placed our order and promptly found a booth with no trouble. my friends are vegan, and so i catered to their diet for a change of pace. the pizza "cheese" is made of cashews, and their are two options: i can't remember their names, but one has artichokes and the other does not. the crust and dough were very good, as were the other toppings. the artichoke pizza was the winner of the two. unlike the experiences of other reviewers, we had our pizzas on our table by a friendly server within 10 minutes. you can see everything going on in the kitchen from the dining room, and they have a fantastic bar. service is absent after they deliver the pies. you get your own plates, utensils and water, etc. overall, this was a good experience and much easier and less hectic that that other famous pizza place with the italian ovens everyone raves about. that place is very good, but for less hassle, i would come back here first for my authentic pizza fix.

i was lucky enough to experience ammazza for the first time with a large group of people from dad's garage theatre company, so i got to try a lot of things from the menu in one shot. boy was it a great shot! spaghetti fritti is delightfully decadent must-have starter. this was followed by a dizzying array of the best pizzas i've ever had. each one was better than the last, but special mention must be made of their breakfast pizza, and i could eat myself into a coma on their fantastic crust alone! get thee to ammazza!

we inquired about the pies, each offered in a medium and large, and were informed that the medium size is usually enough for two. unlike its authentic, certified, pedigreed counterparts, ammazza allows customers to customize, so we chose the capricciosa replacing the marinated artichokes with caramelized onions. its other toppings, wild mushrooms, olives, shaved ham, housemade mozzarella, and fresh basil are locally grown and sourced. i requested a side of fiery calabrian peppers on the side.

several weeks back, when we went to varasano’s pizzeria , we were talking with the waitress about the state of pizza in atlanta.  she told the story of one of her friends who is a server at ammazza:   it seem that they were both going to a party and each of them was to bring a pizza from where they worked, claiming each was the best in the city.  in my mind, this tale spins into a yarn akin to one woven by scheherazade, but there was, apparently, not a decisive verdict.  it was then that i decided, we had to go to ammazza, which opened in july of 2012.  we originally planned to go on friday evening, but a late evening thundershower deterred us from driving back into the city.

make no mistake about it, these are gen-u-ine neapolitan-style pizzas, baked in italian wood-fired ovens.

the last couple reviews are totally biased...i've been here 7-8 times since opening and it's always great. yea, the wait staff isn't that attentive, but if you need something, just ask and they'll quickly respond...so next time bb, don't sit there and watch your wife pass out...da

don't try it on an empty stomach.. when i first entered the place i thought it could become a great alternative to antico's. it is a nice, simply decorated place with a semi-open kitchen and...that's it...

they kept me waiting over an hour for a pizza but it finally came after i had finished all my wine. i was sure i'd really enoy it since i was starving by then... wrong again. it was just o.k. it lacked absolutely of consistency , to the point i had to use the fork all the time (you could just use your hands even if you tried to fold it).

sadly, not a good experience.
