i survived on european coffee for most of my adult life. i recently moved to houston, and i was just screaming for a good cup of coffee! i'm grateful i found them. i also love the ambiance, the place just vibrates (or maybe it was just the strong coffee, haha)! outdoor seating is great, the murals sure cheers the place up, but the overall view is of the parking lot, which is a bit of a bummer. i would give them 4.5* if i could.

nice strong coffee.
i know this is a bit of a staple in houston, but it’s quite an ugly restaurant. very dark and dingy, maybe time for a revamp?

i like agora. i don't love agora. i am conflicted. i want to love agora; yet i cannot. why, you ask. on the plus side agora has a hip aura and vibe akin to what i'd encounter in a college neighborhood, which is not montrose. still, montrose is eclectic and that's part and parcel of why agora thrives and is usually quite busy. having said that i am compelled to give agora three stars out of five for two reasons one, they have no food other than muffins and sweets. secondly, and most importantly i truly feel agora is overpriced. sure, overhead must be high for where they are located. if you think i am kidding check out their menu and see for yourself. a dollar is still a dollar. when venues are not pricing their fare moderately it is an element of my review i will address because people have to made decisions around economic factors. period. schmeriod!

my absolute favorite coffee shop. parking can be tricky, you might need to park in the nearby neighborhood and walk a block or two. the coffee is delicious and ranges from bold strong brews to lighter, more whimsical drinks such as a pumpkin chai. the shop is two stories and has a fantastic lookout of trees and the street below from the second floor. you can always grab a chair outside as well. this shop has a killer atmosphere and great baristas.

there's no place like agora! this two story coffee shop is a great place to stop and relax or study for a while. with a beautiful decor style and warm wood walls you will be relaxed in no time

a fun little find as far as coffee shops in houston go! this place has such character and can often be found packed with every table occupied by a student/writer typing away on their macbook airs. definitely an ideal place to work out of you work remotely. and not only do they make great coffee drinks, they also serve craft beers and wine late.

it's honestly the perfect coffee shop to work in. the one downfall is that it is hard to find a seat there, but we basically hovered around a guy hogging a four top for just himself. he eventually left and we swooped in. i only wish i could have stayed longer. unlike other coffee shops they had tons of snacks available and they are open late. i will definitely be back there

i honestly wish the inside kept up with the taste. i loved the two stories and the museum like feel that it has. the problem for me was the coffee was horrible. i also decided this day to try a sweet and i got the homemade oreos, they had a super dry taste and i honestly didn't even eat but a bite.

agora will forever stand as proof that i can live somewhere for more than five years and be oblivious to the fact that arguably the city’s best coffeehouse and winebar is less than a half mile from my house.

cozy and tasty. cozy atmosphere and well crafted espresso drinks. be warned -- they don't take credit under $5 so come with cash or shell out for their tasty pastries or vegan pre-made cookies. has a tiny grocery built in with specialty snacks and alcohol. better for a casual chat with friends than for studying but both happen. want to visit in the evening to try their bar out for a spin, it looks like the atmosphere i like to go for.

love it. i love this place, it's one of my favorite coffee houses in montrose (if not my favorite). they make the perfect cappuccino every time, they have a great selection of wine, and the decor and shop is beautiful and unique.

watch out!!! i ordered a glass of wine when they were busy and they charged me .50 mire than the labeled price... fine. then a girl that was once very rude at downhouse tried to charge me $9 for the wine when they were slow!!! when i called her out she said nothing looked at the price and accepted the 7.50. it's not the money it's the principle!!

a second home. agora is one of my favorite places on earth. so deep this love runs that i was heartbroken when it burned down and overjoyed when they rebuilt it just two and a half months later. i have never seen a business bounce back so well.

the wooded interior, scattered seating and greek decor make for unique atmosphere in which one can become easily comfortable. they have the best wifi connection of any coffeehouse in the city and the staff will know what you want be fore you order if you are a regular. also, the outdoor seating is irresistible during the spring and summer months.

they do not offer meals, but are well stocked in tasty pastries, especially the muffins and baklava. my favorite beverages are the house blend, the chai latte and the white mocha. their smoothies are pretty good as well and they have dozens of imported wines and alcoholic beverages lined along the bar counter.
