this restaurant is my most frequently skip the dishes pick. love the food - not like anything i've had before! always fresh and tasty.

pupusas always a great hit. i ordered the combo platter, pupussa and refried beans a few minutes ago. can't wait for it to arrive!

worst episode ever. i got the acjulta plate, they cut one sausage in half called it two, the portion was brutal, my steak had no char and was pretty much all fat and to top it all off it was bland minus the overwhelming cilantro. the service was slow and our waitress was the worst ive ever had. my girlfriends enchilada was burnt and also bland. worst dining expirience ever and wayyyy overpriced. go here if you have half a brain cell.

i've wanted to try this restaraunt for the longest time but unfortunately i was disappointed. the food was ok, the tortilla soup was small, salty and over priced at $7.50. i also had the bean papusa which was bland and cold which was over priced as well. the only thing i can vouch for was the corn tamale, which my friend ordered was tasty but again small and over priced. the service is lacking, only one waitress during busy lunch time and she definitely looked over worked and frustrated. i hate to say but i will not return. i can make these all at home and know they will be tastier.

traditional and satisfying. food was hot, tasty and filling! most of the staff were pleasant, helpful and attentive. the papusa were very delicious, sausage tasted as if it was made in house! now on to the star of the show...the tamales. incredible!! just like down south. the "corn tamal" was amazingly moist and sweet, the chicken and pepper tamale was savory moist and delisious! just a quick note on the staff...seems like they are a small family run outfit which is completely fine with me. however the young girl seems very unhappy and has no drive or enthusiasm. cheer up sweet heart, life is not that bad! regardless i will be back!!

oh btw if you're looking for taco bell do not go here!

worst dining experience...ever.. we arrived last night to the restaurant, very excited as we had heard great things about acajutla. once we stepped inside, we were very happy to see that almost every table was full, as this is usually a very good sign. unfortunately, this was where our good experience with the restaurant ended. the waitress appeared busy, as she was the only one working, so we did not mind waiting ten minutes to be greeted. when it came for her to seat us, however, she snarled "for two?" barely making eye contact, and walking away while she spoke. while directing us to our table, she stopped to serve another guest, then quickly gave us our menus and left. she did not return for 20 minutes. i wish i could say it was because she was busy serving others, however, by the time we were seated, a majority of the tables had packed up and left. our table was the only one left of three, one of which was waiting for dessert and the other was just visiting with each other. we noted the high prices of the food ($2.50 for a side of sour cream - really?), but we assured ourselves that our portions would probably be large, and as it was authentic the food would be amazing and therefore worth the high price. i wish we were right. my husband ordered the acajutla plate at $18.99. the menu at the restaurant described a 6oz. steak, refried beans and rice, chimol, and two sausages. my husband received a plate of food that looked like it had been on the counter all day. there was no rice, his beans looked stale, and instead of two sausages, he received a sausage that had not been full cut in half. his steak was mostly fat, and tasted like rubber, which is a bonus because what was not burned of my enchiladas tasted like flour. my plate also looked as though it had been sitting out for a long period of time (the melted cheese had already started to harden, and the tortillas were stiff). my lettuce looked days old. i was able to eat the first one, however, the second one was burned so badly that the taste permeated through the whole enchilada and lingered in my mouth after the first bite. i was only able to eat half of my $15.00 meal. our waitress did not return to ask about our meal (i'm assuming its because she was aware of the quality) nor did she return at any time to offer us drinks. please be aware when you are choosing this restaurant!

chorizo tacos, ceviche and pupusas

continuing with one of my all time favorite foods, tacos, we went to acajutla. this restaurant boasts el salvadorian and mexican cuisine and overall does it alright. tacos came in 3, served on corn tortillas with onions, cilantro and avocado. i had the chorizo (that is typically never moist), had some kick to it but the rest of the ingredients like the veggies were so-so. ceviche had diced tilapia, in lime juice and chimol had a pretty decent tase. definitely tasted better than the tacos for sure. main reason we came here though were the pupusas. traditional salvadoran pupusas made with corn flour and stuffed with cheese and pork. i thought the flavor was ok, but wish there were more filling. there might be some standard value for the tacos here, but the pupusas being 4 bucks each is kinda pushing it. also running out of chicken was kind of weird. friday night seems like a primetime to have chicken y’know?

located on 107th ave and 113st, this small restaurant has some charm. although the service was lacking as i had to get up from my seat to get someone’s attention, place was a decent enough place to try if you’re in the neighborhood.

sal says: just try it (3/5)

@jda_03 says: pupusas are tasty and very satisfying. mixing cheese, beans, and pork are the way to go. ceviche is light and fresh. running out of chicken was odd.

@ms_bal says: it’s a cute little restaurant. i love the pupusas. i really enjoyed the chile con carne dish as well.

feels like you are walking into a grandmothers home! not the nicest part of town but their pupusas are great, the men i was with found the accents of the waitresses intoxicating and their pineapple margaritas are great. good value for the money!

service was friendly but very slow. ambience was severely lacking in charm but i would have forgiven that if the food had been good. only 1 person of our table of 8 liked their food. the shredded chicken in my tacos was dry and tasteless. on top of that, the portions were ridiculously small for the price - the mains were the size of appetizers. the bill came to over $100 for 4 mains and 5 appetizers (no drinks).

bland food with no taste. i expect spices, taste and authenticity. i was very disappointed as i checked urbanspoon before eating here and it had a high rating.

fantastic. went here for the first time today for a late lunch. i can honestly say it was fantastic, i loved the el salvadorian twist, i liked the homemade tasting food, i thought the atmosphere is homey and fit the feel of the restaurant. would most definitely recommend.

white people need to calm down. if you're not salvadorian or have not visited el salvador and tasted proper/authentic dishes.. you can't judge the food here. i was born in el salvador and the food at this restaurant is the closest to what was available back home. sure, the service isn't the best sometimes! but that's because they're a very busy restaurant, they'll usually tell you beforehand. if you're going for pupusas, you're always going to wait a while longer. but if you go earlier than dinner time, it's never too long of a wait for any food and the service is more personal, because they have less customers to attend to.

disappointing. no ambiance. hard chairs that sit too low. terrible service. lackluster menu. bland food. i had the chile con carne which was comprised of overcooked, tough, strips of sirloin fried with green peppers. awful. served with plain white rice. i waited forever to get a beer. i won't be back.
