great little italian restaurant. excellent little place. i had the stuffed eggplant and it was spectacular. they had homemade noodles and used fresh herbs with that dish as well. my husband had the penne alla vodka and he liked it but the winner was the stuffed eggplant!!

best pizza in charlotte.

lackluster. we hit them up a few weeks ago and didn't really think much of our dinner at all. nothing was bad... but nothing was memorable either.

there is nothing you can't like about this place. prices are good, food is generous, and very good tasting. their wedge salad is wonderful. all their salads are good. the service is usually excellent. the only problem is finding a table.

found great reviews on this place and i have say, they did not disappoint. we walked in fifteen minutes before they closed but u would have never known it by the food or the service! everything was far beyond expectation, we will definitely be back.

excellent dinner except for distracted server. decided to give this place a try since we were in the area. for the most part, i'm very glad we did.

the atmosphere is nice and cozy just like a small neighborhood restaurant should be. folks are friendly and while not an extensive menu, it's more than adequate and more importantly, eveything is prepared fresh. the advertise that they do it like they did in upstate central ny (endicott) and it's exactly like what you find in that ara.

they open at 5:00 pm and we walked in around 5:30. not the first patrons but that quickly changed as they filled up. promptly seated, drink orders taken and given menus to review. hostess was very friendly and helpful.

encountered one problem pretty early when we were told that one of the day's speciats, the grouper was not available. not sure what happened there. maybe the shipment of fish did not come in but in anycase, turned to plan "b" which was the chicken repieo. my wife order her standard veal marsala.

both turned out to be excellent choices. the chicken was well prepared and very flavorful. it was perfectly cooked and not overcooked as it often happens. brpccoli was lightly steamed and with just a little lemon juice on the top, flavorful with a nice crunch. the side potatoes were very good as well. my wife's veal must have been good as well because she didn't even offer to give me a taste. kept it all to herself.

only problem we had was with our server. while it started out well with our initial order and beverage refill, at some pont we lost her. when it came time to leave, we could not find her and had to track down the hostess to get our bill. my wife went to the laides room and found the young lady in a cubby hole off the main entrance "texting" away.same as when she came back and she was still doing the same as we walked out to leave.

there is a place for cell phones and texting and i would suggest that this was not the place.

otherwise a very good evening, pleasant people and good good. we will to again and hopefully next time, the young lady will pay closer attention to her customers and less to her cell phone.

zio's casual italian is one of my new charlotte finds. a friend recommended that we meet here for dinner several weeks ago and i am so glad that i now know about this place! zio's has a pleasant yet casual atmosphere, good service, and most importantly - delicious food. you enter by going down a short staircase and the restaurant is welcoming to families as well as to groups and couples. the food is truly worth coming back for - especially the grilled pizza (loved the pear and gorgonzola pie) and the house made pasta. i also really enjoyed the caesar salad. i look forward to returning here again soon to try more menu items.

eh, i voted "liked it" because the beef spedies. i ordered the meat lasagna and my wife got the penne vodka. the lasagna came out with a lot of sauce on it. i immediately knew it wasn't going to be that good. turns out the sauce was hiding a much overcooked top noodle. inside was ground meat and ricotta cheese - neither seasoned very well. i feel bad saying it but the ground meat inside looked a bit like dog food. my wife's dish was decent. supposedly had prosciutto in there but neither of us found any. the vodka sauce was decent and the penne was al dente so not too bad there. wine list was extensive enough but far overpriced. $26 for a bottle of rudfino classico chianti...that's about $9 in the store. most of the bottles were lower in quality but drinkable. just not for that price. pizzas looked good, nice thin crust. i might go back to try it but probably won't be back for the food.

best italian restaurant in charlotte. we love the grilled pies. very kid friendly and priced right for a family of four. i recommend zio to all of my friends.

by far best authentic italian in charlotte so far!. left an event and was driving around the area trying to find somewhere new & spontaneous to eat. what a pleasant surprise it was to find this neighborhood gem off the beaten path. zio has the best real italian food i've has since i moved to charlotte...period! everything was amazing from the giant, homemade mozarella sticks, to the zio wedge salad, to the chicken parmesan, to the chicken roulade. my husband & i loved it and we will be back again and again and again until we try everything on their menu. perfecto!

we tried the naples with chunky tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and romano cheese, basil, and extra virgin olive oil. while it’s not true neopolitan style pizza like pizzeria orso, it is delicious. the crust was thin and crispy, the tomatoes had great flavor, and the pie was topped with the perfect amount of melted cheese and fresh basil. nothing crazy, simplicity at its best.

great food, but. i love the pizza here. one problem: i had a friend coming in from out of town and i was going to take her and her mother to zio for some pizza. my friend is in a wheelchair, so i called zio to make sure she would be able to get into the restaurant, and i was told that there is no accessible entrance. this was very disappointing - not sure if it's the fault of zio or the owner of the property, but something they should soon address.
