zalat is the “bridge” pizza joint between typical dallas artisan pizza (think pies with truffle oil and arugula) to the everyday chain carryout place.
sight: this is a no frills carryout place on fitzhugh. while there is no place to sit and eat, you can play arcade basketball for free or grab a drink next door at dalat, where they will kindly bring you your pizza there if you are waiting. brilliant!
taste: true east coast cheese and pepperoni pizza is hard to come by and zalat hits the mark. their all beef pepperoni and fresh sliced (not diced vegetables) add delicious heft and depth to the pizza. we got the zealot pizza which was there version of supreme, stacked with pepperoni, salami, sausage, red onion, bell pepper and olives. hawaiian pizzas to margaritas, zalat has it covered on their menu (and its also open to 4 am!)
touch: fold it up like a taco, the crust was chewy, pliable and thin (although not as thin as most ny pizza)… perfect balance to hold up against the sauce and the ingredients and not get soggy. there is a version of traditional ny pizza which i need to try next time around
smell: pizza pizza pizza…zalat serves build your own pies or their house created combinations. while we were at their sister restaurant dalat next door, the bartender told us about the zalat "secret pizza" menu...a pho pizza which is supposed to be really good which i'll have to try next time around!
sound: all i could hear is the phone ringing off the hook for carryout and delivery orders. this place is hot right now!
