surprise lunch date with the hubby.... my husband surprised me one day on his mini vacation from work and took me for a drive around jacksonville. he said that when he once worked for this cpa firm, they would always order from this place called the "yum yum tree" and that he loved to order "the chicken salad" was the best he ever had and it is their specialty. we drove up, just as she was locking the doors and closing up shop at 2:50 pm (closes at 2:30 pm). she turned to us and asked if we just wanted something simple, she would get it for us, if not they would be open tomorrow for the hours 11:00 -2:30 pm. my husband said that we just came for the chicken salad. she invited him in, she gave a the deal of the day! we took it home and enjoyed a nice romantic lunch! we even shared some with my mother in law! we can't stop raving over how good that chicken salad is! the taste buds will not ever forget that experience! we will diffidently be back for our next romantic dining or picnic takeout experience. already making plans to get a romantic picnic take out from the yum yum tree and head to the beach for a picnic with my man!

the yum tree is great for a classic southern lunch break. it's by my office so i go regularly. the chicken salad is famous around here, so get that if you are a chicken salad fan. great on a hot day with one of their mint iced teas! also worth checking out when it's available as a special is the quiche lorraine. i had it and was very happy with the taste and portion.

the yum yum tree on st. augustine road has had quite the staying power with nearly 40 years in business serving what is touted to be the best chicken salad in jacksonville. we were invited out for lunch the other day to try out their traditional southern fare.   the yum yum tree is only open for table seating from 11-2:30 but they also serve take out from 9:30-2:45 monday through saturday.   we were greeted immediately when we arrived and seated at one of their bright patterned tables in the back of the restaurant. it is evident the restaurant hasn’t been redecorated in a few decades, but that adds to its southern charm. the whole time we were there i kept imagining the cast of steel magnolia’s filming scenes here. yum yum tree – potato salad the menu itself is very limited. the yum yum tree has been serving the same rotation of food for years. there are sandwiches, salads, quiches, and crepes.   it makes for pretty easy decision making on ordering. our server recommended that she bring us the chicken salad, which is their famous offering, an asparagus crepe, a house salad, and potato salad.   while we waited on our entrees she brought us crackers and a whipped cheese spread that reminded me of the handi-snacks from the 90s. our lunch arrived less than 5 minutes later so this would be a good option for folks who have limited lunch breaks. yum yum tree – asparagus crepes we tried the chicken salad ($8) first since that is their signature dish.   the cold chicken salad is served in a large scoop on a bed of lettuce with a cucumber on top and a sliced cherry tomato. traditionalist chicken salad lovers will probably be very happy with it, but i wasn’t overly impressed. the chicken salad has large chunks of white meat chicken simply dressed in just mayonnaise and also lightly peppered with a few slices of cel

ordered cream of tomato soup and asparagus crepes. the soup was made from scratch and was delicious although it needed a touch of sugar to balance the tomato flavor. the crepes however were completely disgusting! why would they go to all the trouble of making crepes and avery tasty sauce only to pop open a can of asparagus!! it was so awful tasting and came to the table cold! it would be so easy to fix by blanching fresh asparagus to replace that awful tin taste. i didn't eat this entree but was charged for it. chicken salad is good if you prefer sour cream.

longtime lunch fav with the best chicken salad in jax. they do a brisk takeout business as many prefer to buy it in a container and serve it at home.

perfect lunch dining. this is hands down the best sandwich in town. the chicken salad is their speciality with good reason. there's no other like it, and you have several choices of breads. the tuna salad, potato salad, crapes and all the rest are also spectacular. they have recently added soups and ice cream to the menu. the restaurant is beautifully decorated and the service is friendly and fast. highly recommended.
