youell's oyster house

huge disappointment. we looked forward to a special treat, one like we'd enjoyed years ago, in the original structure.
we found the new building very appealing.
we were not that pleased with a salad. two of the party complained of it having a "fishy taste". less than half of it was consumed, as the patrons discovered what they identified as anchovies. incredible! why in the world would a restaurant serve such a food without clearing it with the patron?
the patron who ordered fried oysters complained that they were very disappointing, also. no crisp exterior, just mushy.
other entrees not exceptional, either, and rather pricey.
it has been decided that it was our first and last visit there.

went to the new youell's for dinner. the restaurant is very open with tables close together. we got the crab patty which was good and the seafood combo, also good however the scallops were very small and no butter warmer was served with the crab in the seafood combo. we were limited to youell's sides for the day which i did not care for. if you w anted a different potato you had to pay $2 for it. not gonna happen. it was very noisy and the beer was served in a 10 oz glass with a thick glass bottom so it was probably 8 oz for $4. liked the old place better

won't go back ever. i had my first visit to youell's and to be honest, it was not worth the money i paid for the dinner. my wife and i ordered the calamari appetizer, and it came out tempura style. all breading with very little calamari and it was tasteless. for dinner my wife ordered the crab incrusted filet with a bourbon glaze, which was quite good. it could have used a lot more crab meat for the money we paid. i ordered the seafood combo, and it came out in a small broiler pan, with 3 tiny over cooked shrimp, a few bay scallops, a small portion of crab and a tiny fish filet. very disappointed and not worth the price i paid for it. with this said i will not go back, and if you want your moneys worth, go to henry's salt of the sea. by far a better restaurant

i really wanted to like this place. the reviews looked promising and i'd rather give my money to a local restaurant instead of some chain. for the most part the food was good. it was the kitchen / management i took issue with. mother day weekend. my mom's medium filet had to be sent back twice. ( rare and cold in the center twice.. . when it returned the third time after we had dessert, the same piece of meat cooked 3 times is now shriveled, dry, and pitiful looking. the manager comped us $8 on. $300 bill. sorry but. when you order a surf and turf for $50. you actually want to eat it all at the same time. if at least half of her meal was comped, i would have been ok with it. i did tip my waiter the appropriate 20% as it was not his fault. not looking for a free meal here. just would like my moneys worth. sorry but i do not believe we will return. i reached out to the management to try a and give the a chance to respond. crickets. chirp,

i had an terrible experience at youell's just recently, the wait staff nice food was good the problem is that their manager is a jerk. he came over to check on our table, i believe his name was tyler, and he came to ask how things were, and i mentioned the fact that the veggies were a little cold for my wife. this guy had the nerve to be snarky with me and my wife. it is extremely disappointing in his behavior and i do not understand how the owner can let this person run his restaurant being rude to customers over absolutely nothing. i was not looking for anything free, i just was being honest and his reaction was not ridiculous. i will never eat there again and i will be sure to tell all of my friends to stay away.

an excellent restaurant. we had really good fried oysters - very fresh. the sautéed haddock was wonderfully smooth and melted in your mouth. to top it off, we had the outstanding blueberry carrot cake and lemon sponge pie. and, since we were there for happy hour, the martinis were just $5 - quite a treat! the wait staff were very attentive, despite the fact that it was a busy friday evening. we will definitely come back to this restaurant when we return to allentown. one more thing - reservations recommended, or come early.

absolutely ridiculous food, dining experience, and service. jeremy was a fabulous host. he even brought me a new oyster when one of mine fell from the tray when i moved from one side of the table to the other. i started with a half dozen blue point oysters, which were perfect, then shared tuna tartare. for my entrée, i chose the broiled combination #2 and my boyfriend had the curry glazed tuna. after having a bite of his, i immediately regretted my decision as it was the best tuna i've ever had. for dessert, we chose the blueberry carrot cake. we were in town for a convention and are now trying to figure out when we'll be back so we can make a return trip!

oyster selection (5 raw choices) was good but not a fan of mignonette. parking is a problem. jersey skate fish was very tender. broiled haddock was thick and served with a vegetable medley. would love to go back for more oysters or to try a tower.

the service was efficient but detached, starting with the
hostess.  we had a loud speaking neighbor
who seemed intent on sharing his world views with the restaurant.  we started with the bang-bang scallops which
were great, my wife's paella was a 4, my soft shell crabs were a 2.5, the
biscotti dessert was a 4.  the bill with
tip was $107 which seemed high since we didn't have any alcoholic
beverages.  on the way out the owner or
manager was speaking with the hostess, he didn’t bother to acknowledge our
departure or say anything to us at all.  one
last thing, it was our wedding anniversary which was on the e-reservation and
confirmation so it would have been nice to have the occasion acknowledged.  having said all of that we will return but i
won't have the soft shells which btw is my all-time-favorite entrée.

west allentown staple. youell's oyster house has been a west allentown staple for generations and continues the tradition of great food at reasonable prices today. something new is always being added to the menu so the selection of entrees remains fresh. the place can be very full on certain nights or near holidays which can lead to a noisy environment and the tables are a little close together for my liking. but the food is excellent and the service is generally very good and all at a reasonable price.

first time here, with friends. it was a nice saturday evening, and we all 4 of us enjoyed the food. i ordered the crab and cheese... very good flavor. went well with a glass of yuengling. a stretch, yes, but there was one downside... with a full house, it was loud. patrons had to talk over each other.
