i went here for dinner with an acquaintance. the lamb ribs were massive. i ordered one chrysanthemum soft serve and they gave me two - 4/5 would come again.

in the last few months, i feel like i’ve finally hit my stride in canberra. i have made some good friends, found some good feeds and i’m even joining social sporting teams! it’s been crazy. of course there are some other things i am still getting used to, namely the lack of late night eating. so i was pleasantly surprised when i was able to book a table at xo restaurant, one of canberra’s hottest new eateries  for 9pm. while i momentarily panicked that it would just our table and a waiter mopping i was greatly relieved to learn it was anything but.

xo has become one of my favourite restaurants in a very short space of time; they have the trifecta of great service, ambiance and food. oh, and they have icecream. yep. i was very excited to try their much-instagrammed chrysanthemum tea soft serve after a lovely dinner visit with friends. we were so full but, really, who can resist a soft serve? they came out on a specially designed tray and looked heavenly. now if you’re after a super sweet dessert, don’t order this soft serve – the flavour is exactly what you would expect from an asian-style dessert; subtle and almost savoury. there’s something familiar

been reading articles about this place all over social media, finally got to try the place and it did not disappoint. the place had a really good vibe/atmosphere, their customer service was excellent! our waiter explained every dish as she bought them out.

shallow fried tofu
xiu mai
asian bolognaise
barramundi fillets
crispy lamb ribs

not many places are open on a monday night in canberra, so i was pleasantly surprised to find out i could add new contemporary asian eatery in narrabundah, xo restaurant, to my monday night dining list. xo restaurant is now where the artisan used to be and is run by four canberra boys. two of those boys have a south east asian background and the flavours represent what they know and love.

i've been wanting to come for a while now, after reading a few really good reviews. it didn't disappoint. while i was only there for a light lunch, i had the pork belly buns and steamed dumplings, my food envy was operating on overdrive. my meal was delicious and i'll definitely be back to try some more.

i read about xo on the hercanberra website of new restaurant openings. it seems canberra has come a long way in terms of online information about new places, and even though still far from hot dinners (due to sheer city size more than anything else) it's a good start to see these articles floating about.

great service and atmosphere. meatballs were great but sauce was too sweet and strong. lamb ribs (the whole flap not just ribs) were so fatty they were almost inedible with an overly sweet and oily sauce. beef rendang was very oily and had a gritty texture also overly sweet. very disappointed with the fatty, oily, sweet and unfresh tasting food. maybe i chose the wrong dishes?

great new place - pork belly bao is the best i've had in ages and the desserts are seriously good as well! the food is really interesting and be sure to try the kitchen's own version of the classic siracha chilli sauce.

new modern asian fusion restaurant, xo, has opened at the narrabundah shops replacing the artisan. the restaurant is easy to spot with a large artistic mural outside. taking on the same narrow space as the previous eatery, the inside of xo is surprisingly bright and light. the exposed brick walls have been painted white, there’s back lighting behind the tan leather banquette and what seems like natural light coming from the ceiling all help keep the space well lit.
