great little hidden gem!. i'm glad to see this place is popular on urbanspoon as it deserves to be. waraji's an unassuming place hidden away in a little shopping plaza just off of glenwood. the interior decor is nothing to rave about, but glitz and glamour isn't what i go to restaurants for. the last time i went was on a saturday night and even though most of the tables were filled, we got our food pretty quickly. our waitress was friendly and checked on us frequently. now onto the good stuff...

we ordered a hiya-yakko appetizer (cold tofu) which was delicious and refreshing. highly recommended. i ordered my favorite types of fish a la carte (salmon, tuna, yellowtail and a few others) and they were fantastic. the cuts were of average size, but i was surprised by how fresh everything was and the sushi rice was especially well done. my date and i were pretty full but ended up ordering 2 more orders of salmon sashimi because it just that damn good. the place is a little more expensive than others in the area because they don't do the bogo stuff, but it's definitely worth the few extra bills. i'll be back soon!

great sushi, but not just a sushi place. in particular, at lunch waraji has a number of dynamite meals under $10 so you can give it a try and you can go with groups when (sadly) some people don't want the sushi. good service to boot! i love this place.

best sushi in raleigh. while there are many places to get fresh fish, it seems like most sushi places treat the rice as an afterthought. not waraji. they have the full preparation of sushi mastered. haven't been anywhere in the triangle that comes close to the sushi at waraji.

service is top notch as well. this is a very well managed restaurant.

the sushi was delicious but did not hold itself together well and made eating with chopsticks difficult. the hamachi kama - salted and grilled yellowtail cheek was the star of the meal and i would return for this dish alone.

service may be inconsistent but sushi is legit. best, freshest sushi in raleigh - no question. it ain't cheap but this is what sushi / japanese is supposed to be. if you want bogo go to sushi thai, if you want quality go warajii!

i've had better service at burger king!. tried many times to eat her here and the place apparently closes on a whim for several weeks at a time, per the signs that would be on the door. finally caught them open. ordered 2 simple entrees, nothing difficult, no fancy requests or anything like that. waited over two hours for food, could not get a refill on tea and both our server and the hostess refused to send the manager over. a "runner" brought the food (like i said, after 2 hours) and when we asked her (now a 3rd person) for the manager, she said said very harshly "no! manger no have time for you"! food was "ok", but i'll take tokyo house any day! never got to speak to a manager and there never was explanation for the insane wait! oh, and never did get that drink refill. so......never again!!!!

always great. i have been here many, many times over the past 15 years. with out doubt it is the best sushi in raleigh. the sushi is always the freshest in the area and very tasty. i also like their katsu-don. which is a breaded pork cutlet over rice & onions with an egg on top. it is a wonderful winter dish that will warm up anyone. if you are there early see if they have the yellow tail tuna cheek(hamachi cama) as an appetizer. it is succulent and comes with a terrific sauce. the sushi can get pricy but at least it is great quality. if you go with the cooked diner sets you can get out of the restaurant with out spending a lot of money.

great quality. by far the best sashimi we have had anywhere. grilled tuna check app was also awesome. when a place has patrons lined up to get in the door you know it is good. we show up for opening on sat and there were 15 people in front of us and the place was packed within 20 min. service was on point and the food was awesome. by far the best we have tried in the raleigh area. i can not speak to the rolls but the freshness of the sashimi is unsurpassed. a+ on service and food. sake flight was a good bet even at $18.

not sure if it was an off night but not great. some rolls had so much wasabi you could not taste fish.

it was good, but not my favorite. and the service is confusing if you eat at the bar... a server brings your drink, but the sushi chef behind the bar takes your order and serves you. who and how much do you tip??

not what i had in mind.... not what i thought. read the great reviews and went. overall; poor quality ingredients and flavors were not what they should have. presentation could have been more appealing... did not finish dinner and went somewhere else. sad but true .

still excellent!. i saw no recent reviews, so i thought i'd chime in and say that they are maintaining their high excellence. i only go there at lunch, and yes it can be a little pricey for a lunch - but you get what you pay for. excellent sushi, rolls & fish both, and the cooked entrees are excellent as well and fairly priced. always good service, clean and well maintained restaurant.
