my favorite place to go for a good old fashioned burger is w & m bar-b-q burgers in kaimuki.  there is nothing fancy about their burgers - they don't use grass fed beef or load their burgers with all kinds of trendy ingredients.  but that's what i love about them.

been eating w & m bar-b-q burgers since small kid time. the bbq burgers are still onolicious. so why did i decide to order the bbq steak sandwich during my last visit? never again. too sweet, with a texture closer to teriyaki beef jersey, and crumbly meat. auwe! stick to the bbq burgers.

crab flavored salad. not only did i not faste the crab flavor, the mac salad was so salty. i think somebody forgot that they had put in salt and did it again. i have to toss the whole thing and i hate wasting food. however, the burger was wonderful as usual.....

no better teri burger. i have been a fan of w&m's teri burger since i first tasted it in 1964... there is absolutely no better version of this burger anywhere. as far as i am concerned, it is the gold standard. i have even tried to duplicate it when far away from hawaii. i can get close, but there is something special in the the original that is unique... the sweet-umame-char broiled caramelization that they get is perfection. the fact that they have been able to keep that niche in kaimuki for over 50 years is a testament to the excellence of their product.

hands down the best we've had so far of the burger joints. that means first of four. reasonable prices, awesome food, friendly and true aloha feel. i honestly wish this was a diner to sit in and relax and perhaps the closing time stretched past 430. great burger, not too big, not too small and the most amazing relish i've ever had. get the royal yall, won't let you down. if you're bigger than i am (5'10" 225) get two!!!

park at city mill next door. much better. buy some home improvement stuff while your order is being cooked. busy place, timing should be fine (not a mcdonalds drive thru operation). great burgers on the smaller side (model is pre-current obesity standard). best fries in town. and no trans fat. highly recommended.

wonderful burgers. it is just burgers but oh what burgers! i try to stop in for a bite every time i am in honolulu. nothing fancy, just a great meaty, hamburger. they have a wonderful sweat smoky taste that no one else seems to match.

the best. i have lived in ca, mn and nc and there is no burger like w&m. if you live on the west coast everyone raves about in and out....not even close.

i so happy to be home and can't wait to eat at w&m. we are going there for lunch today and i am stoked. :)

there are only two burger places that i have etched in my 65 year old memory as "da bes evah". first one is maid-rite, in bettendorf, ia (i was a pre-teen then) and the second, equally memorable, (in my early 20s) is w&m bar-b-q burger, in kaimuki, hi. the thought of either one, 40+ years later, makes my mouth water. yum!
