delicious. we went to vietnam 1 for lunch today and it was excellent. we have fond memories of a vietnamese restaurant in arlington, va, that is now gone, and we have looked for its equal. vietnam 1 is at least its equal. i had bbq pork with rice vermicelli. my husband had mi xao don (with tofu). truly delicious. the service was a little slow, but it's worth the wait. we also had iced vietnamese coffee... heavenly.

perhaps the best in richmond!. we went to vietnam 1 for lunch and were immediately struck by how great the food smelled from the moment we walked in the door. we ordered pho ga and the vietnamese curry with tofu and vegetables. the pho was the best that i have ever had. the broth had a delicate flavor and the shredded chicken was excellent. the curry sauce was delicious.

total lunch bill was under twenty bucks. we will be back...often!

love vietnam 1. yes, it lacks in atmosphere but it has the best food, i've tried all the other local vietnamese options and this is still my absolute favorite. the iced coffee rocks! love v8 - it's my favorite!

... pho was very good, most notably for its very fresh mix-ins of bean sprouts, jalapeno, and basil. adam deemed the broken rice to be on par with other good broken rice have had, calling it tasty. but the real surprise was the egg roll. so often a forgettable filler, the egg roll at vietnam 1 was the highlight of the meal. hot and flaky, a real treat.

best rva vietnamese. this place is my personal favorite vietnamese. some friends accuse it of having sticky tables or being too noisy and crowded, but let's face it, there's a reason it's always packed: it's great vietnamese in a corridor loaded with vietnamese restaurants. stop by the tan a asian market next door when you're done!

if you get seated next to the door in the winter though, wait for a better table, you'll be frozen every time someone comes in and "helpfully" holds the door wide open for their friends for 5 minutes.

as good as in northern va. stopped by for lunch during the week. place was packed with non asian clientele looking for a quick non fatting lunch dish. i ordered my usual which is pho (northern vietnamese soup) with sliced round steak which they slice very thin and let it cook in the soup. all the dishes came quickly to the others as well as me by pleasant servers. you pay at the cash register. if you don't know how to eat vietnamese just sit and observe. you have to love the pho which is a deep beef broth with vermicelli rice noodles and light fresh greens. i put on a lot of the spices that are available at the table. next time i must try their spring rolls.

best vietnamese in richmond. i spent years in richmond and ate vietnamese all the time. a co-worker and i launched a mission to find the best vietnamese in the city (mid-town/west end) and vietnam 1 won hands down. the soup broths were far more complicated, the fresh coconut drinks were unparalleled and the bbq pork always had the right amount of char. they were kicked out of tan-a shopping center and moved behind full kee off horsepen road. their facility is spotlessly clean even though they're stuck beside the dumpster farm outside. the folks running the place seem worked to death but are friendly. they're always shocked when i order the penny wort drink since i look like a plan old white lady. i miss this place.
