if you are looking for a place where you can freely expeess your awkwardness, uniqueness & whatever kind of weirdness without being judged by "normal" humans, this is the place to be. i came here with my best buds out of spontaneity and it was the best decision we ever made that day. we came out of that place with new friends and stayed until midnight after that healthy and delicious meal. the place is a beautiful mess. i dont drink but i had my first ever on the house absinthe here and it was crazy! you have to visit this place at least once in your life.

van gogh is bipolar is a quirky little reservation-only restaurant along the famous maginhawa st. i fell in love with the restaurant when i saw its al fresco dining portion. it's the perfect place for a date or for a private get-together with friends. billowy, white curtains with haphazardly placed throw pillows and low tables that allow you to sit on the floor while you eat.
the dining experience is unique and i thoroughly enjoyed it. we had the larry flynt's cabbage experience. the name is apt because it isn't just a dish -- it's an entirely new experience! everything on the plate is edible and you can wrap everything from flowers to salted eggs in the special cabbage, add their special black sauce, and pop it in your mouth.
courtney love's drink of the day was extremely good, too. i can't quite pinpoint what its components are but it has a cool, fresh taste with hints of honey.
i also had mel gibson's darkest secret which is a two-part dish. the first is a flaming shot of absinthe from czech republic (green fairy) followed with a spoonful of sticky, hot, dark chocolate. yum yum yum.
the yogurt tacos were also really good!
it's definitely a place for friends or your date but, not for your family! haha. i highly recommend this restaurant :)

i've always wanted to come back here. my ex-gf several years ago took me here and told me if i ever bring another girl to this place she would kill me. she looked serious so i never did. the drink is good. the food i honestly forgot about. but the jaeger with chocolate was unique and is a must try. the place visually is wonderful. star of course is the host. forgot his name but i love him. cool guy

i didn't know what to expect when my friends invited me to eat at van gogh is bipolar. when we arrived at the restaurant, the owner, jetro, welcomed us and guided us to our table. he explained to us the concept behind the restaurant so that we would have a better appreciation of the dining experience. the ambiance is very artisanal, reflective of the owner's background as a painter. the restaurant is filled with his paintings and various items that jetro acquired during his travels.

the food was enjoyable. i like that the dishes served have a special meaning behind them. jetro explained how every food in the dishes has a positive quality for the mind and the body. i like the wide variety of tea available in the restaurant. customers could choose which flavor of the tea best fits their respective moods. the herbs used in the dishes are fresh and flavorful since jetro plants and harvests them outside the restaurant.

overall, dining at van gogh is bipolar is a unique and interesting dining experience. it doesn't fit the mold of conventional restaurants that most filipinos frequent. the owner's presence definitely helps the customer appreciate the dining experience more. people should try this restaurant out.

more of a miss than a hit for me. the lamb was very gamy and many of the components in the dishes were just too 'bipolar' for me. catherine zeta-jones' luscious mouth wasn't bad though. also a point for the cute, funky interiors.

last month, in celebration of my birthday, i asked my boyfriend to go with me to a restaurant we haven't tried before. i wanted it to be something new and out of the ordinary. later on, we decided to eat at van gogh is bipolar in quezon city. we didn't know what to expect but positive reviews about this place are all over the internet.

we were greeted by jetro, the owner and chef of the restaurant. and as you may have guessed, he has bipolar disorder. however, he sees it as more of a blessing than a curse. because of this condition, he started creating dishes using ingredients that help improve one's mood. initially created for himself, he started serving these dishes to others and that's how van gogh is bipolar was born. what's even more interesting is that the menu changes once in a while so expect that you'll be eating a different dish on your next visit!

we ordered a set meal, the last supper, which consists of a bowl of soup, a fruit drink, a serving of dessert and a main course, which you can see below. the serving is so huge! the main course is like a mixture of different dishes placed in one plate- there's pasta, chicken, salmon, duck and so many others i can't even identify (oops! haha). the shot glass on top contains one whole egg in a mixture of different sauces.

if you're looking for a unique dining experience, i recommend you try van gogh is bipolar. but before anything else, check out their facebook page to know if the restaurant is open because jetro takes breaks once in a while. and don't forget to make a reservation because the place can hold only a limited number of people (around 12 diners at a time).

for a gourmet restaurant with a promising menu, van gogh is bipolar is quite a disappointment. servings come in reasonable portions and the dishes are quite simple yet extravagantly flaired with garnishing - nicely plated. what it lacks though is the skill and mastery of cooking the meat. the lamb was too dry and tough. honestly, the ambience and popularity of the place is not reasonable enough for the overpriced dishes - granted that a slab of steak is expensive, i would prefer to pay for what it's worth. i really hope they can work on cooking the meat the way it should be. they do have great and unique flavored beers that's brewed in-house. the beers are fantastic.

wrapped in a rare quiet place along maginhawa is a quirky home set up to be an out take set from tim burton's alice in wonderland. van gogh is bipolar yet unseen upfront is creative layers of an artistic bipolar chef named jetro. masked by a boutique shop, once you go in that narrow street on the right, you'll find a bell and a pile of sneakers and shoes welcoming you to dine in. this place however is now for reservation only and only dine here if you have time to burn. jetro's food comes with love so it's best to allot at least 2-3 hours to complete all courses.

i had the "chill" 5 course meal, i think it varies everyday. but expect the larry fynns cabbage experience to be there!
it's 1000pesos/head for 5 courses. and despite the long wait. the food was pretty good. from start to end you would get a meal that you would truly appreciate cause you know that that person in a chefs jacket that passes by frequently at your table and explaining the dish and asking how is the food is the exact person who made the food for you.

jetro makes food that helps you stay happy or relaxed maybe thats where he got the courses happy and chill. i see a theme of food fighting bipolar as jetro explains some of the dishes to be anti depressants and releases endorphins. somewhat healthy and comforting rich food all packed in a 5 course meal. accompanied with a teapot and teacup you would personally pick, unlimited tea as you pick the tea from the tea selection near the shelves full of props and comical hats to complete the happiness aura.

lamb and salmon are amongst the favourite proteins that come out of the courses so just a heads up on that. all in all as long as you go there with somebody you would love to talk to to burn the time you would enjoy the place so much! the food and drinks are well executed as i can say, from start to end it will feel like a close friend laboured all day to make you a meal. van gogh is more of the experience than the food. so if you are willing to try something new, then this restaurant is for you!
