nice atmosphere, ugly service & food. met some old friends here for happy hour last night and thank goodness they are good company!! by the end of our meals, we all vowed to never come back.

the waitstaff was terrible!! our waitress was so rude i couldn't believe it!! there were about four occupied tables in the entire restaurant so i know it wasn't because she was busy. she obviously had something better to do because we were really a pain for her to have to deal with. the food was below average. nothing was terrible - but it was definitely a forgetable meal. we had the chips and guacamole - these were good and the guacamole seemed fresh, but also pretty hard to screw up i would think?! plus we got the avocado pit on the plate - as a garnish? i don't know, we couldn't really decide what it was for! we also got the tomato and mozzarella pizza with avacado. again, okay but definitely nothing special. pretty flavorless actually and could've been much crisper. we also got an order of the turkey sliders - grooooooosssss!!!! they were so dry and flavorless and had a really weird texture. needless to say, the majority of those ended up in the trash. we also tried the pumpkin cheesecake for desert which was absolutely terrible!! we are all pumpkin fans and were excited when she said that it was a new special. it was disgusting and small. the creme brulee was good but, again, forgetable.

there are a few positives to this place. whoever the owners are did a great job of decorating - the restaurant is beautiful. if only they would've spent the same amount of time working on training the staff and perfecting the menu... the free valet is a really nice feature. parking otherwise is either a mess on the street or expensive in the ramp. also, the wine was good - but i'm pretty sure they didn't have much to do with that!

i'm not a fan of writing bad reviews, but i just had to comment on this. there are so many good restaurants in uptown - don't waste your time or money on this one!!

great experience. had dinner at urban eatery tonight. i have been going there often, it is always great but tonight was exceptional. we sat out side on the patio and enjoyed the great weather. i had the whiskey soy salmon for entree and we split the smoked duck nachos for appetizer. our server alex recommended the urban sundae for desert. we had a great evening. as always the free valet is a nice touch.

good times. good food, good service, good times. we went to urban eatery for dinner. it was our first time there so we tried a few different items. we ordered the asian pork sliders and the fresh guacamole. we shared the chicken pot pie, the spicy lamb burger and the shrimp tacos. the food was great, the lamb burger and the asian pork sliders were outstanding. our server autumn was very friendly and helpful. the free valet was a great touch as well. we will be back for sure.

great service and good appetizers. this place has been re-hashed so much, but some how i still think it's dixie's. not cheap, but you can have a good time if you're not looking for anything too special. they need steamware for their martinis
make sure to get your parking validated

a very happy happy hour. a co-worker and i went to urban eatery for happy hour and we were very impressed. we ordered the warm pretzel twists (which were a favorite) and the turkey sliders with guacamole. the guacamole was the freshest food we've ever tasted. what's even better is that their drinks and appetizers are $3-$5. you can't beat that.

other reviewers, did we eat at the same place??. honestly, either sundays are bad or else some of these reviews are fakes. i checked the other reviewers and it curious that many had only one review (of urban eatery) or else shaun had 3 reviews but one was for crave and the other for urban eatery, which both have the same ownership. after seeing the bit on the today show about resort owners loading up tripadvisor with fake reviews, i'm just wondering... cuz i tried the place since all the reviews were glowing. but, for us, it was awful. for background, i loved the place when it was dixies and liked it better when it was the view. the view was our family favorite on sundays. our 8 year old loved their hamburgers, the drinks were great, the staff was very friendly and attentive. i had high hopes for urban eatery. but.. it started bad and went down hill. we walk in the place and, what used to be a relatively bright cheerful place with a great view of lake calhoun, is not this very dark, edgy restaurant. they covered the walls with what looks like dark blackish barn wood. strike one. we ask the hostess to sit by the window and she obliges but realizes we need a kids menu when she get to the table. she leaves to go get one. after about 4-5 minutes, no kids menu. i decide to walk over to the hostess stand to get one. when i get there she apologizes and says there were out but are printing some new ones. would have been nice if she'd walk to the table to tell me that. strike two. we wait another 4-5 minutes for our server to show up. young guy. seems hard of hearing so i have to raise my voice to put in order for coffee and coke. he leaves quickly. we don't see him for almost 10 minutes. he brings the coffee black, i mention i'd like cream and wondered why he hadn't asked before he left. strike whatever. he leaves again. they finally bring the kids menu. the 8 year old wants to try her usual - plain hamburger and fries. i think my coffee cup was about 1/3 down when our phantom server appears. kid orders the usual. i ask get breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, toast. poof, he's gone again. i swear it was about a 30 minute wait. i had a sitter scheduled for 1:00 and had to call to tell them we were going to be late. food finally arrives. my eggs are lukewarm, sausage is cool and they bring the kid a cheeseburger. she hates cheeseburgers. they take it back and she has to ask them to leave the fries! the kid has been starving, waiting for her meal. the hamburger comes and she takes a couple bites but says she doesn't like it. she knows her hamburgers. loved the views burger and loves burger jones which is around the corner. so we decide to end this disaster quickly. i ask for the check. he took my credit card.. when the phantom returned, he mumbled something about how he realizes we are unhappy and wants to make good. but offers nothing to 'make it good'. honestly, i just wanted to exit. i open the folder that has the check and the phantom forgot to put a pen in there. so, from start to finish, this was awful. i can understand that a new restaurant can improve after the first couples months, so i may drop back in the summer to see if things have turned around, but to all the rest of you.... i'd avoid this place until june. or maybe just don't go on sundays.

yum! 5 stars!. i don't usually write reviews, but this place was outstanding! to start, they've made parking easier then ever! they have free valet (unheard of in mpls) which we used, but they also told us they validate the parking in the ramp for $1!! the entire experience and atmosphere was friendly, warm, and casual. the new interior design is very cool-lots of wood, exposed brick, and soft lighting. the food was delicious. our waiter had wonderful suggestions which we took and couldn't have been happier. we started with the hummus plate and the noodle soup, and then had the walleye (even my non-fish eating friend liked this!) and the avocado pizza (so good!) also, for you wine drinkers out there...they have awesome bottle prices, which we took advantage of : ) this place is great! highly recommend this to anyone looking for a wonderful atmosphere and delicious food! can't wait to go back!

i ate lunch here and loved it so much i brought the family back for dinner. the spicy lamburger is sublime, shrimp tacos plump and flavorful and the blackened walleye was both authenticly spiced while avoiding being overcooked. my picky teenage daughter even loved it. the staff is agreeable and attentive. portions are generous for the prices and i think this place will only get better with time. my only suggestion is to include ice cream with the amazing chocolate espresso cake.
