things like good pizza and burgers are such a subjective thing. all things considered though this was one of the best gourmet style burgers i've had. the menu has a lot of variety and i'm happy to try another on my next visit.

amazing and unforgettable! so fabulously done. one of my favorite restaurants and definitely the best burger you will ever have, hands down. great service and cool location next to the camp. it does get busy and it's a bit pricey, but it's incredibly worth it.

very few places get these high ratings in my book but this place is the best tasting food i have ever eaten. best sauces and burgers. it would get a solid five if i didn't feel like i could only stay for a little bit based on seating design. it is small and not really a sit down with the family kind of place.

i am so glad i asked him because it was phenomenal! it’s a beef burger with, get ready for it, bacon lardon (think huge slices of the fattiest bacon slices), beer-cheddar cheese, and smoked-salt onion rings. of course i also ordered some sweet potato fries and an ommegang amber to wash it all down.

reinventing the burger. great youthful concept for an american classic.
the environment is fun and inviting. you walk into the restaurant and is greeted by jammin' tunes and cordial staff.
the truffle burger is the personal favorite because the buttery truffle flavor with its medium-well cooked meat just melts in your mouth. it is savory and not too overpowering with flavor.
the sweet potato fries are must-have complement to any of their burgers.
all in all, umami is a great restaurant. i would give it 5stars.

our first time trying umami was a mindblowing experience! in our opinion, it tastes way better than your typical burger joints. juicy, tasty meat (med rare) paired with soft buns and all kinds of tasty toppings, depending on your burger. even more delicious when paired with the sauces they give to you in spoons. martini and i traded half of our burgers so we could get a taste of two different burgers. we had the original umami burger (has parmesan crisp on it) and the truffle royale burger (has pulled pork ribs on top of patty along with truffle sauce). i have to say the truffle royale was my favorite. smushed potatoes, truffle fries kimchi : the truffle fries were skinny & super crispy. it was our first time trying truffle fries as well, and that was an interesting yet delicious experience as well. the smushed potatoes were surprisingly good – very crispy. it inspired me to make some at home…we’ll see how that turns out. « bo

ummai burger is located in the camp, an urban shopping space in the heart of orange county. umami will send you a text to your cell phone when your table is ready, so you are free to roam around. there are lots of great shops at the camp so the wait doesn't feel to long. my favorite is the port and stilton burger but you really can't go wrong no matter what burger you choose as long as it has meat in it! portos bakery and cafe || los angeles, ca

we were seated right away, the staff was friendly. i ordered the hatch burger which was pretty greasy. it wasn't as good as i was told it was. the fries however were delicious and the sauces that came with the fries were delicious.

i've heard really good things about umami burger which was why i decided to try it. the staff was friendly and welcoming. i ordered the earth burger with thin cut fries to go. i didn't have to wait too long for my food, but by the time i got home, maybe 5 minutes later, my fries were soggy. the burger completely fell apart while eating it. i ended up w half the bun left when i was done. the gave me ketchup w my fries and i asked for jalepeno ranch as well. after getting home i realized i was actually given mayo instead. while my experience wasn't really bad or great the quality of the food is not worth the money! way too over priced for what you get! i'm pretty disappointed considering i've only heard good things.

i’ve heard alot about umami burger. there are 13 locations in southern california and i finally went to the one located in “the camp” in costa mesa. a meeting of burgers and hipsters.

along with the burgers, we had to try some sides and dip them in the great variety of sauces they offer.

umami ketchup, dijon mustard, house spread, roasted garlic aioli, house relish, jalapeño ranch, diablo sauce.

located in a shopping enclave called, 'the camp' umami burger costa mesa definitely has the o.c. beach feel, with a casual, local feel, it a friendly departure from the la venues.  and this time, we actually departed from our mainstay-the umami burger!!!!!

so recently i've seen and read a lot of great things about umami burger so i had to try it out...sadly i left disappointed. first we ordered some salted french fries. the french fries were good yet there was nothing special about them. next we ordered one california burger,a turkey burger, and one plain cheeseburger. the california burger was not good at all. they said its cooked medium rare due to the fact their meat is so high quality before i ordered it and i was fine with that. with my understanding though, medium rare is mostly pink with the outsides being darker. their definition of medium rare though is completely raw with the outside barely seared. at one point i took the bun of to put on some ketchup and the burger completely fell apart. from there i couldn't eat the rest do they thankfully were kind enough to make me another burger cooked to their definition of well done which is still mostly pink inside. the turkey burger though was amazing, the burger was cooked perfectly, the bun was great and the toppings were perfect for the burger. the last plain cheeseburger we ordered was originally cooked well done and was very good. overall i thought the food was good yet they need to know the true meanings of medium, medium rare, etc

i’d heard the praises of umami burger for a couple of years now, but since they were in los angeles i never had the chance to try them, until now. umami burger has been going through an expansion and with their expansion they recently opened up in costa mesa at the camp. what i can tell you is umami burger is a burger experience you have to try yourself because it’s just so damn good. so here is what we ordered. umami burger, tempura onion rings $3 the tempura onions were pretty big and held up well for tempura, i think there was something about malt on the menu about them but can’t remember exactly. we dipped them in the umami ketchup. they were about average. umami burger, smushed potatoes $4 these “smushed” potatoes were awesome… i could eat this double fried creamer potatoes every day and be happy. dipped in garlic aoili for his and her pleasure. how about the burgers? you ask. well we each ordered our own, mrs. dangarion ordered the cali burger (butter lettuce, slow-roasted tomato
