trinity is the second clapham restaurant of chef patron adam byatt, with the first being the now defunct thyme, and it works very hard to amalgamate fine dining with its friendly neighbourhood restaurant ethos.

chef/patron adam byatt has some history in this area, having opened the very enjoyable and quite inventive restaurant thyme in clapham in 2002, after cooking at the square under philip howard. after a couple of successful years he upped sticks to covent g

trinity is our local bolthole where we go for a treat. after some disappointing weekend experiences in the west end we've found it's far better to dine somewhere more local. or at least local to cowie! our previous meal at trinity was nearly faultless. we

trinity is somewhere between classic, classy and modern. it offers value for money (very generous portions for alc/set menus) with a canvas of dishes that feature intensity and honesty. it is already a firm clapham classic, but i think it will become a true london institution someday. if i was local, i would visit every month, as i did with my (former) local, cambio de tercio, or at least make enough return visits to develop stronger sentimental feelings for this restaurant. adulation and return business – that is surely all restaurants set out to achieve.

somewhat hidden away in clapham's old town, trinity, adam byatt's restaurant has been floating around in my bowl of places-i-want-to-visit for quite a while. i'd it filed away as a special occasion place until a rather unusual chinaman mentioned their pr

my main reservation would be i found the atmosphere and decor a bit sterile: simple white table cloths, low lighting, largely youngish professional looking diners.

frosty reception by the fed-up looking, casually dressed welcomer, but the waiter was great and everything seemed well until the food arrived. 'compressed cucumber' was described as accompanying my mackerel tartare tonight. it was just a slice of cucumber. not only did my plate look like someone had a nosebleed on it, but there was hardly any mackerel to be found. i don't know why i was surprised when the kitchen actually couldn't produce the dream their pretentious menu conjures up. after asking where our food was an hour and a half later the chippy gm said with no apology that the restaurant allows up to 2.5 hours for diners. that was not a good way to deal with the situation. once it did arrive, the braised beef tasted like it has been boiled in a kettle. yum. totally over-hyped and boring.

adam byatt’s trinity was voted aa restaurant of the year and time out best local restaurant in 2007/2008. despite this, it was never on the top of my ‘to-visit’ list until i was around the area to visit the local hospice of the same name that i chanced up

trinity is one of my favourite restaurants in london. i love the focus on british ingredients and their style, which is one of sophisticated comfort food. the sunday supper menu is a lot more rustic than the regular
