attended birthday dinner with family and friends. party size was about 18. we only had one waiter for the duration of the evening but he did well. the food was not satisfactorily. restaurant was out of a number of items. salad was salty, lettuce was wilted and brown. steaks were requested medium rare and was prepared well done borderline burnt, according to patrons. pasta was overcooked and dry. it took an hour for the food to come out and then all the above, we were not happy. the room was spacious for our event but rather warm to the degree family members were sweating. not at all pleased with this visit. it was my first time and the expectation that tony's is the premier restaurant, we were not impressed..

a great martini bar with loads of tv's & a friendly casual atmosphere
eggplant to die for!-and enough for a second dinner.
the meat sauce is hard to beat- love it on pasta or with the toasted ravioli.
cute little assorted shooter desserts are delicious & just enough to finish off
any meal
a truly tasteful italian restaurant with lot's to offer

use to be great..... tony's use to be one of the best places to eat in the st. louis area, but that last few times we have been there booth the food and service were horrible for the fine dining atmosphere that they are trying to maintain. went there about a year ago, and the service fairly good but the food was ok at best, and we decided we would not go back for a while. two weeks ago we decided to go back and give them a try. we walked in on a were told it would be about 5 minutes for them to get a table for our party of 4. it was a saturday evening 7pm, there were several tables open around the restraint that we could see. 20 minutes passed and no one came to seat, or even say anything to us. there were 3 other parties that came in behind us and no one had even talked to them. we just walked out and will not be going back. 10 years ago the food and service was top notch and i would have recommended the place to anyone, i hope they can turn it around... but at this point i don't see the restaurant being around much longer.

sadly probably my last visit!. 4 of us went to tonys late one saturday night 3 of us ordered kabobs. all 3 were inedible and tasted rotten. we asked to return them they came back 5 minutes later grabbed our plates and took them away. 10 minutes later the bitchy manager came to our table with a huge attitude and said you don't want anything else do you. we were starving! we all said no, it was that awful. my husband finished his meal and made a mess at the table the manager came over and made a big deal about the waitress not cleaning up her tables, it escalated to the point that she fired the waitress in front of us (we liked her). we had a discussion with the bitchy manager and just got more attitude. we left feeling awful and hungry. the reason i say sadly is that in the past i have had wonderful meals there! thank goodness gentelins is close by!

after 65 years i keep going back. i first went to tony's when i was 15 years old for pizza, in the early 50s. i have enjoyed fine dining at tony's on a regular basis until i moved to florida in 1981. i always go back to tony's when i'm back for a visit. i personally always enjoy the pepper loin and it has remained the same delicious tasting tender high-quality beef as i remember from year to year.
i am a personal friend of leonard but that has nothing to do with my review of the high-quality food as well as excellent service they provide.

so sad. i used to love this local restaurant, despite the fact that their marinara was on the 'too sweet' side for me, the pepperloin was good and we were proud to take guests there and felt happy to get to go ourselves but, it has changed. not the same as it used to be. i was there 3 separate times within a very short time period and the food was at best average. the potato was tiny, the steak was also small but tastey, the salad wasnt that fresh but i'll let that pass even though it was a caeser salad, adding to the final bill. we had to ask for bread and butter and the bread was not warm much less hot, if i remember correctly and i think i do, the floors were not that clean in the dining area outside of the bar part also but, the real 'kicker' so to speak was the fact that it was the third time in a short time span that i couldnt get a simple cup of hot tea. three times i tried to get one and was told they were out of tea bags! inexcusable when the meal wasnt that great on top of it, but twice as expensive. they should to be ashamed. folks its not worth it, they are running on the success of the past and its not at all like the previous hard working people strived to make it. save your money you can get a better meal, and service elsewhere else. :(

not a fan: gone downhill. what once was one of the best restaurants in alton has gone downhill. the food is mediocre and way to pricey for the quality. i recently went and order the kabob dinner....all i got to go with it was a salad. of course the salad came first so when my dinner arrived it was just a plate of meat. my children have tried all the children's menu items and didn't care for any not even the pizza. one of the owners walks around (and is very creepy) as he walks past tables he says how are you...blah, blah without even looking at the guests. will spent my money elsewhere.

continues to be great. my family came back to tony's for dinner last week for the first time in about a year and, as always, the pepperloin was cooked to perfection and delicious; the pepperloin kabobs were equally good; and the chicken parmesan was also great. service was good and we will be back again for sure.

here's what to order. tony's has a nice bar, good menu, good pizza, but there is only one meal i ever get when i go there: pepperloin filet, salad with house dressing and baked potato with butter and sour cream. this steak has consistently been the best steak i have ever had over the countless times i've been there in the last 30 years. i don't know where they get their beef, but you won't find a more melt-in-your-mouth filet than they serve here.

although the hype was excellent, in my opinion tony failed to deliver the expectations. floor was dirty, food was overpriced for quantity and quality and the servers need to sharpen up their dress and attitude. look forward to better times

excellent food, and usually good service. the quality of all of their dishes is top-notch, but the thing to get there is the pepperloin. the meat practically melts in your mouth. delicious! but you do pay for it. it's great for a special occasion though.

tony's is good, but you have to pay for it. part of the price is the atmosphere. i think it's well worth the intermediate price, and go once or twice a month.
