the village lanterne

love this place, so eccentric and unique and have never been to a restaurant quite like it. it's a nod to lindenhurst's german heritage and it is family owned. went on a saturday night and the place was packed, yet we were still seated within 5 mins (and without reservations). there was live music, a man playing german music on an accordion which was super fun, a wooden wheel that had a fountain in the entry way, and decoration that reminds you of a small german town. some may say the decor is a little corny, but we thought it made our night out more of an experience than just plain old "dinner". pretzels they bring out instead of bread are amazing...warm, soft on the inside, crispy on the outside. the beer selection is amazing, as they make it in house. the decor is fun and makes the environment feel as though you're in a little german village. waitresses wear german themed costumes which is a cute, funny touch.

the service was definitely slow, but seeing as it was busy and my boyfriend and i weren't in a rush, we didn't mind too much. plus the waitress apologized to us numerous times. also warning: portions are huge. we probably could've split one entree between the two of us. pricing is reasonable.

great german food !. my friends and i tried this restaurant for the first time yesterday, september 22nd. we just loved it! great atmosphere, great food! entertainment by john weber on the keyboard was very nice. he even sang happy birthday to me.
we usually go to zum stammtish in glendale queens, and we found the village lanterne to be just as good if not better!

right in the heart of the village of lindenhurst is this german restaurant serving authentic recipes from the old country. while we're not well versed in german cuisine, we were looking forward to a new experience. seemingly ordinary from the exterior, you are transported to another world when you walk in.

surly management. the table next to ours had a problem requiring police and emts. our dinner was stopped , the table we were sitting at pushed up against a wall and medical procedures done to another customer literally at our feet. our entire family was upset and crying. the manager came over and told us it was not her fault anything happened and would not comp anything on our 100+ bill.her answer was if you want i could give you some sort of gift certificate after all everyone in the restaurant saw something. i told her we were pushed back by the police we were so close and she did not care. she was very argumentative and should not be in a position dealing with customers or trying to make a really bad situation better.with her being the front line, the food and atmosphere did not even matter

went there on a saturday night with a reservation and still had to wait 15 minutes. host keep telling us , "it's crazy tonight!". my friends and i were thinking ummm it's saturday night that's a good thing! the service was very slow and unattentive. the food was very good, but waiting an hour for dinner was not. if we go again, i hope the owners read this and do something about the service.

fantastic german food in an authentic german atmosphere. friendly waitstaff, huge portions.
